Durante la primavera, el espectáculo es otro y los cerezos se encargan de decorar cada rincón de la ciudad con el colorido del rosa pálido, el blanco y los tonos tan característicos de este maravilloso árbol. En cualquiera de sus estaciones, la ciudad de Washington D.C. es una idea maravillosa para un descanso reparador y para sumergirse en la historia del país.

During the months of January and February, snow covers the roads and the cherry trees like a magical layer in Washington. During spring time, the view is different and the cherry trees decorate each corner of the city with light pink color, white and the particular tones of those beautiful trees. In any of the seasons, Washington, DC is a marvelous idea for a rested break and dive into the country’s history.
La hermosa ciudad de Washington es oficialmente llamada Distrito de Columbia, (Washington DC), se encuentra ubicada a orillas del río Potomac. Capital de Estados Unidos de América, es un destino muy apreciado por los turistas no sólo por su historia, sino por la belleza de su arquitectura, el cuidado del medio ambiente y los distintos sitios y posibilidades para entretenerse.
The beautiful Washington is officially called District of Columbia, Washington DC, and it is located close to the riverbank of the Potomac river. It is the capital of the United States of America, it is a beloved destination for tourists, and not only for its history, but also for its architecture, and the way that its environment is taken care of, its different sites and possibilities for amusement.

El Festival Nacional de los Cerezos en Flor The Cherry Blossom Festival Se trata de una hermosa celebración anual en la ciudad de Washington para conmemorar el regalo que el 27 de marzo de 1912, hizo el alcalde de Tokio, Yukio Ozakim, quien donó 3 mil cerezos japoneses para así incrementar la amistad entre México, Estados Unidos y Japón.
It is about a yearly beautiful celebration in Washington to commemorate the gift given away on March 27, 1812 by Mayor from Tokyo, Yukio Ozakim, who donated three thousand Japanese cherry trees to strengthen friendship among Mexico, United States and Japan.
Son característicos en el Parque Wets Potomac y durante dos semanas, se inicia con una ceremonia de apertura seguida de muchas actividades culturales y degustaciones de sushi y sake, así como recorridos por presentaciones de los hermosos arboles de cerezo, su diversidad y colorido. El festival se celebra desde 1935. Es una visita obligada si llegas a la ciudad, tómate una selfie y aprovecha los días de caminatas bajo el sol.
Cherry trees are very particular at the West Potomac Park and during two weeks, there are many cultural activities with sushi and sake; all starts with an opening ceremony. And it is about visiting and seeing the beautiful cherry trees, their colors and diversity. The festival is celebrated since 1935. It is a “must” visit if you come to this city, take yourself a selfie and enjoy the walks during the sunny days.

El Capitolio The Capitol Se comenzó a construir en 1793, como punto clave en el gran proyecto de creación de la ciudad de Washington. En realidad, el Capitolio es una agrupación de edificios construidos con un estilo arquitectónico similar. A un costado se encuentra la Biblioteca del Congreso. Es uno de los puntos turísticos más visitados, se trata del edificio que alberga las dos cámaras del Congreso de Estados Unidos. Está ubicado en el barrio Capitol Hill y es una visita que debes hacer para conocer el centro del poder político, la entrada es gratuita. El ala norte corresponde al Senado y el ala sur a la Cámara de Representantes. El centro de visitantes está situado en el ala este del edificio. Tras bajar unas escalinatas y superar el habitual control de seguridad, se accede al interior del Emancipation Hall. Una buena recomendación es asistir y presenciar las sesiones en determinadas ocasiones, puedes visitar la página web del capitolio para buscar alternativas. En los pisos de arriba hay galerías en donde permiten que el público aprecie la sesión. Si tu idea es apreciar el arte, el Capitolio alberga una enorme colección de arte estadounidense. Puedes encontrar los pasajes, que son conocidos como los corredores Brumidi, obra del artista italoestadounidense Constantino Brumidi, en este espacio podrás observar los grandes momentos y personajes de la historia de Estados Unidos. Desde escenas de la vida de Benjamín Franklin, John Fitch, Robert Fulton, hasta acontecimientos tan importantes como la compra de Luisiana. Brumidi también trabajó el fresco de la cúpula, un mural impresionante en el techo que muestra al presidente George Washington, llamado Apoteosis de George Washington. Lo más interesante de tu visita es hacerlo por medio de un tour del Capitolio, para conocer el histórico edificio con grupos guiados, también es gratis.

Its construction started in 1793, as a key point for a great project for the creation of the city of Washington. Actually, the Capitol is a group of buildings with a similar architectonic style. The Congress library is located next to it. It is one of the most visited spots, it is about the building that holds two of the chambers of the Congress of the United States. It is located in the Capitol Hill neighborhood and it is a visit that you must carry out to get to know the center of the political power, the entrance is free. At the north the Senate is located and to the south, the House of Representatives. The center for visitors is located on this side of this building. After the stairs and the routine security screening, one may access to the Emancipation Hall. A good recommendation is attending to the meetings in determined occasions, you may check the Capitol’s website and look for alternatives. In the upper floors, there are galleries that allow visitors to attend the meetings. If your idea is to appreciate art, the Capitol holds a huge collection of American art. You may find halls known as Brumidi, by the work of the American-Italian artist, Constantino Brumidi. At this point you may observe the great moments and characters of the history of the United States. You may see the scenes of Benjamin Franklin, John Fitch, Robert Fulton and all the way to those important events taking place in Louisiana. Brumidi also worked the affresco of the dome, an impressive wall painting in the ceiling that shows the president George Washington, called Apotheosis of George Washington. The most interesting part of your visit is to do it through a tour to the Capitol to get to know the historical building with guided groups; it is also free.

Teatro Ford Ford Theater Es muy visitado pues es el sitio donde fue asesinado Abraham Lincoln por John Wilkes Booth, en el mismo se realizan diversas presentaciones teatrales desde 1860. Los visitantes pueden disfrutar de una breve charla de un guía del Parque Nacional y aprender la fascinante historia del asesinato de Abraham Lincoln. Puedes visitarlo con la familia, funciona también como un teatro en vivo, presentando una variedad de actuaciones durante todo el año. Tuvo una importante renovación en 2009 y en 2012 se construyó el Centro de Educación y Liderazgo de Vanguardia, y es un recorrido muy interesante que no puedes perderte para conocer y profundizar en la vida de Lincoln. Para una mejor visita, debes contar con 2 horas y puedes utilizar el siguiente orden: • Theater • Museum (en el nivel inferior) • Peterson House (el sitio donde murió Lincoln) • Center for Education and Leadership El costo es de $3.00 valor que debes cancelar y apartar tu boleto individual en línea. www.fords.org

The visitors may enjoy a short explanation with a tourist guide of the National Park and learn about the fascinating history and the murder of Abraham Lincoln. You may visit along with family. It works also as a live theater where they present a great variety of plays during the year. There was an important innovation in 2009 and 2012. The Center for Education and Leadership of Avant-garde was built, and it is a nice and interesting visit that you cannot miss. This is to know more about Lincoln’s life deeper. Catedralde San Mateo Saint Matthew Apostle Cathedral Ubicada en Rhode Island Avenue 1725 puedes llegar por medio de la estación de metro Farragut North en la línea roja. Una visita importante para conocer su arquitectura, la iglesia está dedicada al apóstol San Mateo que entre otras cosas es el santo patrón de los funcionarios.
It is located at Rhode Island Avenue 1725. You can get there through the metro station, Farragut North on the red line. It is an important visit because of its architecture. The church is dedicated to Saint Matthew and it is a patron saint of the public officials.

Basílica del Santuario Nacional de la Inmaculada Concepción Basilica of the National Shrine of the Inmaculate Conception Es una basílica católica situada en el campus de la Universidad Católica de América. Es muy visitada por las familias para apreciar su interior, puedes ahí encontrar la Tiara de Pablo VI. La basílica está dedicada a la virgen María, conocida como Nuestra Señora de la Inmaculada Concepción, que es nada menos que la patrona de Estados Unidos. Es la iglesia más grande del país, la Estatua de la Libertad, que mide 306 pies y 8 pulgadas desde la fundición del pedestal a la antorcha, tiene longitudinalmente exactamente la misma medida que la parte superior de la iglesia a modo de bendición simbólica.

It is the Catholic basilica located in the American Catholic University campus. It is very visited by families to appreciate its inner facility; you may see the tiara of Pope Paul VI. The basilica is dedicated to Virgin Mary, who is known as our Shrine of the Immaculate Conception and who is patron saint of the United States of America. This is the biggest church of the country, the Statue of Liberty and its measures are 306 ft and 8 inches from the foundry all the way to the torch. It has the exact same measure, in length, as the upper part of the church and this means a symbolic blessing.

When talking about eating in Washington, you have to think in abundance about fish, shellfish, apples, pears, cherries and raspberries.
Y esto, debido a que Washington es uno de los mayores productores de manzanas, lentejas, guisantes secos, peras, frambuesas rojas, mentas, aceites, cebollas, cerezas dulces entre muchos otros productos. Se concentra la producción en el valle de Yakina. Las manzanas constituyen el producto más importante del territorio.
And all this is because Washington is one of the greatest producers of apples, lentil seeds, dry green peas, mint, oils, onions, sweet cherries, among others. The greatest production happens in Yakina Valley. Apples represent the most important product of the territory.
Pero como también mencionamos, hablar de la comida en Washington es hablar de mariscos de todo tipo, bacalao, atún, almejas, fletán, ostras y muchos más. El salmón es preparado muy constantemente y se encuentra en casi todos los restaurantes. Los favoritos son ahumados y a la parrilla. El tradicional pescado rebozado y frito servido con patatas fritas es un plato muy conocido y es importante probarlo si visitas la ciudad. Para los postres, las manzana o cerezas convertidas en maravillosas tartas son los más conocidos. Los locales beben cerveza, vino y el café, que nunca falta por las tardes en cualquier pequeño restaurante de la ciudad. El café cobra especial papel y es uno de los sitios en donde más café se bebe por persona en todo el país.

The favorite ones are smoked and grilled. The traditional fish and chips is a very popular food and it is important to try it if you visit the city. Desserts, apples and cherries are prepared as tarts, and they are the most common. Locals have beer, wine, coffee and never miss them any afternoon in any little restaurant of the city. Coffee becomes very important and this is where more coffee is consumed per person in the whole country.

Viewpoint Juan Diéguez Olaverri The Peak of Cuchumatanes By Eugenia de León, TurismoTV Magazine, June 2021 Hay algo especial cuando viajas al occidente de Guatemala. El clima del bosque nuboso, los paisajes verdes y las casitas en los parajes son escenas que encuentras a cada momento. Nos dirigimos hacia Huehuetenango, al Mirador Juan Diéguez Olaverri. Ubicado en el punto más alto del país, arriba en las cumbres de las montañas a 3,300 metros sobre el nivel del mar, es considerado uno de los lugares con mejores vistas de Guatemala. Tras viajar cerca de 6 horas desde la Ciudad de Guatemala, puedes adentrarte a los territorios de Huehuetenango, un departamento rico en fauna y flora, el viento de febrero todavía se percibe frío. Hermosas escenas de colinas llenas de ovejas lanudas, algunas acolchadas a la espera de ser esquiladas y las vacas pastando mientras los pastores atraviesan los montes con su varita y siempre acompañados de un perro ovejero como buen aliado para la labor del día. Después de la cabecera de Huehuetenango, te diriges a Chiantla, y sobre la montaña comienza el zigzag de ascenso que es parte de la aventura para llegar al lugar. El mirador se encuentra ubicado en ese municipio, a 12 kilómetros de Todos Santos Cuchumatán.

There is something special when you visit the west side of Guatemala. The weather feels like a cloudy forest, green landscapes and the little houses in every spot that you may encounter are beautiful. We will head to Huehuetenango, Mirador Juan Diéguez Olaverri (viewpoint). It is located in the highest point of the country, up on top of the summit of the mountains; 3,300 meters of elevation above the sea level. It is considered as the best place that has this view. After traveling almost six hours from Guatemala City, you may go deep into Huehuetenango territory, it is a division full of fauna and flora. The wind of February is still cold. The beautiful views of hills full of wooly lambs, some waiting to be sheared and cows grazing while the shepherds may be traveling through the mountains with their stick and always with a shepherd dog supporting them with their daily labor. Right after the main village of Huehuetenango, you may visit Chiantla. You travel on top of the mountain that has a zigzag shape and upwards, and this is part of the adventure to get to the place. The viewpoint is located in this place, twelve kilometers away from Todos Santos Cuchumatán.

La vista para inspirar poemas The visit to inspire poems Su nombre es en honor al poeta guatemalteco que escribió el poema “A los Cuchumatanes”. La historia relata que Juan Diéguez Olaverri visitaba este lugar para inspirarse y escribir sus poemas, tomaba los bellos paisajes como referencia y los plasmaba en sus letras.
The name is in honor of the Guatemalan poet that wrote the poem “A los Cuchumatanes”. The story tells that Juan Diéguez Olaverri would visit this place to inspire and write his poems. He would take the beautiful landscapes as a reference to write them in letters.
Desde el mirador, puedes tener una increíble vista de la cadena montañosa de los Cuchumatanes, así como de los volcanes Tacaná, Tajumulco y Santa María.
From the viewpoint, you could check out the great mountain chain of Los Cuchumatanes, and see the volcanoes, such as, Tacaná, Tajumulco and Santa María.
El Mirador es una plaza con varias estructuras, muchos visitantes utilizan el espacio para tomarse fotos con el paisaje de fondo. Por las tardes, una corriente de nubes envuelve al Mirador y la experiencia es casi celestial.
The viewpoint is a plaza with several structures, many visitors use this spot to take pictures as their background. During the afternoons, the clouds wrap the viewpoint making it a celestial-like experience.
Existen unas cabañas abandonadas justo en una pequeña pradera al lado de la plaza. Es un punto muy fotografiado por nacionales y extranjeros. Puedes aprovechar a sentarte en la pradera y apreciar los recorridos de rebaños enteros de ovejas que pastan tranquilas meciéndose con el viento.
There are many abandoned huts, right there close to the meadow of the plaza. It is a spot that locals and foreigners love to take pictures of. You may sit at the meadow and appreciate the flocks of sheep moving and grazing peacefully and swaying with the wind.

Para comer desde el cielo Eating, from heaven Sin duda, algo muy particular en este punto del país es la posibilidad de comer cordero en casi cualquier restaurante. La cocina es muy rica en estofados, asados y pastas. Al llegar al punto del mirador tienes varias opciones, la primera y muy visitada es el Café del Cielo, un hermoso restaurante de madera ubicado justo al pie de la plaza. Mientras te adentras en los jardines, los accesos están rodeados de bellas flores, tiene opciones para comer en la terraza para compartir un buen plato de cordero asado y una copa de vino mientras sientes como si en realidad estuvieras en el cielo, entre las nubes. Si el frío es muy intenso, puedes degustar una taza de chocolate en la parte interior. ¡Es una experiencia que no debes perderte! También tienes la posibilidad de comer en los restaurantes de Huehuetenango cabecera, en donde encuentras comida italiana en abundancia, como en el Pomodoro y carnes de todo tipo en La Casa de Juan, entre muchos otros.

When reaching the viewpoint, you may have many options. The first one is very crowded, Café del Cielo, it is a beautiful wooden restaurant located right at the beginning of the plaza. You can see the gardens; they are surrounded by beautiful flowers. A pocos kilómetros, al estilo de un restaurante de paso, encuentras el “Comedor de doña Amparito” un espacio especial para que puedas degustar el cordero en todas sus versiones: sopa de cordero, cordero asado, estofado de cordero, cordero frito, cordero ahumado, tortillas con cordero entre otros.

Cordero en el mercado de Chiantla Lamb at the market in Chiantla Si quedaste muy impresionado por el exquisito sabor del cordero y quieres comprar para llevar y preparar en tu casa, una idea maravillosa es hacer una visita al mercado de Chiantla. En la mayoría de carnicerías se especializan en corderos frescos y de buena calidad. Debes llegar temprano en la mañana o después de las 8am ya no encuentras. En las exhibiciones de las carnes de cada local, colocan pieles y las cabezas del cordero, es impresionante adentrarse a las costumbres y diversidad de la cultura para que la experiencia sea un aprendizaje completo.

The great majority of butcheries are specialized in fresh lambs and of good quality. You should get there very early and by 8 am you will find nothing. The displays include local meats, fur and lamb heads. It is impressive to go deep into tradition and the cultural diversity so that the experience becomes a whole learning process.
