The English for Academic Purposes Program (EAP) offers students the opportunity to develop the key language skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing, in the context of degree level studies. Alongside EAP, other courses focus on the approaches and strategies required to become a successful student in Canadian higher education. A strong emphasis is placed on frequent assignments, a high level of formative assessment and detailed, supportive feedback.
This enables close tracking of students’ progress and facilitates the provision of guidance to individual students. A further and important element of EAP is the help given to students to adapt to living and studying in a new environment. After completion of EAP and the achievement of 4.5 IELTS or equivalent, students progress onto the University Bridging Program.

The University Bridging Program (UBP) is designed for students who require only a single semester of study to reach the language levels for entry to the undergraduate degree or the Pre-Master’s Program. It enables students to deal with complex academic texts and to produce academic writing, fully referenced and in line with established conventions. A study skills course provides opportunities to research and deliver a formal presentation on an academic topic. Overall, the student’s progress is given tangible expression through the production of a portfolio of work drawn from all the UBP courses. This, along with final assessments of the student’s English level, provides evidence of the student’s readiness to move on to their bachelor’s degree or Pre-Master’s Program.
Structure
For the undergraduate program, students need to have achieved 5.5 IELTS or equivalent to join the first year of the degree. When they have completed this first degree year successfully, they need to have reached the equivalent of an IELTS level of 6.5 to move into the second year of an undergraduate program.
