Normal Release Path

Once the water rejoins the river channel, it continues downstream through the communities of Waterford, Hickman, Ceres and Modesto before eventually joining the San Joaquin River just south of Vernalis. The controlled and emergency spillways at Don Pedro send water through an area known as Six Bit Gulch where it rejoins the Tuolumne about 1/2 mile downstream of the Don Pedro Powerhouse. This path takes the water out and away from the main dam structure and safely redeposits it into the river channel.
