BRICE GIELGENS
2013
Brice Gielgens sqeaver@gmail.com || Gielgens.com I am currently studying for my BFA in Illustration at Southern Utah University. I have a passion for nearly all arts and have been practicing studio arts for over 7 years. I have also participated in many group shows and local artist spotlights in Las Vegas. Much of my work has been through promotional art and local comic book shops. Much of my current work is in digital mediums and painting. I look forward to working in product design and illustration in entertainment in the near future.

Ink and Prismacolor pencil on Mi Tientes paper (Not for Sale)
gave me a sense of what to expect in future illustration commissions.
I am including this piece in addition to my Drawing III portfolio. It is a testament to how much I learned from even one class. It was meant to be used as a book cover illustration and I was able to complete it in 8

Scratchboard (Not for Sale)
This is one of my oldest pieces that I still own. I keep it around as a reminder of when I decided to start my art career. I believe it was also my inspiration to dive into permanent mediums such as ink. I still think it’s funny that every six months or so, my friends tell me how much they like it as my self-portrait. In actuality, it is a line work of an image of Elijah Wood in a candy aisle of a grocery store. I’d like to think I look that good in a suit. Gets ‘em every time.

Old Man Mario With these pieces (Bowser, Old Man Mario and Bullet Bill,) I wanted to do a watercolor and ink practice while recreating some of my favorite characters from my two just fell onto the paper over a weekend. It was fun to create something with a strong sense of nostalgia while using new and familiar mediums. It may even be something I come back to in the near future. Ink & Watercolor $80

Prombie Dude & Dudette These two illustrations were initially done for a group show at Black Bird Studios in Las Vegas, NV. I created what I felt were two fun characters, framed them next to each other, and won Best in Show and $50. It felt like big money for me at the time. The two pieces did not sell at the show, but sold a few months after. Soon, I received commission for the two pieces, gained permission to reproduce them in print from the buyers, and recreated them in vector. As of this time, they are my best selling prints. I am still proud of them, but of course, I am already pushing to recreate, reimagine, or scrap them entirely.

in the future. This piece garnishes a lot of attention and succeeds my goal, to create detailed, entertaining art. I have grown as an artist even more since “Murray, but it proves to be a directional and transitional piece.

The Kaiju Pumpkin is one of my favorite, if not most ridiculous pieces of personal art as of late. There is always more I want to do with my art, but this one proved to nearly hit all the marks. I am trying to achieve the next level with similar work, but this piece proves to me that I am not too far away.
