CONFLUENCE MICHAEL BRADEN ANDY MOSES GREGG RENFROW
CONFLUENCE The William Turner Gallery is pleased to present CONFLUENCE, a group show including new works by Michael Braden, Andy Moses and Gregg Renfrow, Each of these three artists use abstract painting to explore the intersection of color, space and line through the lens of natural phenomena.
MICHAEL BRADEN A student of art, architecture and theoretical physics, Michael Braden utilizes polychromatic lines to examine what he calls “transitional environments, the spaces of the in-between”. Building up dense matrices of color, Braden’s paintings urge the viewer to consider how we occupy and function within these spaces of convergence.
ANDY MOSES Implementing boundary pushing techniques that he’s been practicing for the past three decades, Andy Moses seeks to harness the forces of nature via painting. Acting as a sort of alchemist, Moses mixes and transforms his paints for weeks in a complex process that results in sweeping, luminous surfaces that reference both observed phenomena and abstract experience.
GREGG RENFROW Drawing from the ever-changing nature of California light, Gregg Renfrow works in translucent layers, pouring mixtures of polymer and pigment over sheets of cast acrylic. A disciple of the Light and Space movement, Renfrow creates brushless paintings of subtle tonal gradations that are in dialogue with the constant flux of the visible world as revealed by light.
