Tiffin University Established in 1888, Tiffin University offers nationally accredited graduate and undergraduate degrees in business administration, top-notch academic programs in criminal justice and social sciences, and distinctive degrees in the arts and sciences. All through its history, the University has nurtured a learning-centered setting and a sense of community for its students, faculty and staff. The campus at Tiffin is a blend of traditional historic and modern buildings that create a vibrant and warm home for an educational community. In addition to the growth at Tiffin, graduate and undergraduate programs of the University are offered online and in several areas of Ohio. Master’s degrees are offered in several foreign countries.
DR. LILLIAN SCHUMACHER Interim President
President's Message Tiffin University has remained true to its mission in 2015 and has made steady progress towards its goal of providing a high quality education to all of its students – traditional, seated and online from around the country and the world.
Your Tiffin University is strong, on-course, and looking to the future with optimism and enthusiasm.
The University’s faculty continue to provide quality academic programs as evidenced by our MBA program being ranked 25th in the country. A new Bachelor of Science in Mathematics program, as well as a new faculty in this area and in the sciences, allow us to grow our STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) programs and provide excellent opportunities to prepare students for the marketplace. Additionally, a new Continuing Education Center allows us to meet the growing demands of both our internal and external students. The fiscal year ending April 30, 2015, saw a 13.93 percent increase in our endowment from the previous year and a 72.2 percent growth during the last five years. Tiffin University, with the support of you, is in the final stages of renovating the former Pettibone Manufacturing factory. The facility will become the “Tiffin University Performing Arts Laboratory-a 21st Century Skills Development Center.” Phase one of this project includes The Marion Center which will provide an additional venue for musical performances, speakers, banquets, wedding receptions and a variety of activities for students, staff and faculty members, and community organizations. The center will provide seating for up to 500 attendees. In addition, “The Wall Street Pub and Grille” and a new, expanded campus bookstore will open in June. Tiffin University has implemented exciting recruitment initiatives to help decrease student costs including College Credit Plus (CCP) scholarships for high school students who decide to enroll at TU after graduation. The CCP program offers students the opportunity to enroll in online or seated college courses while still in high school. Also, TU has begun an integrated recruitment process with faculty for specialized visit opportunities and faculty-awarded scholarships. These programs will increase the recruitment footprint including an added emphasis on international student recruitment. Currently, international students represent more than 30 countries on TU’s campus. The Human Resources and Campus Services division continues to focus on strategic initiatives that will contribute significantly to student success. Over the past year, the TU has hired a full-time Director of Student Engagement and added a full-time and a part-time counselor in the Wellness Center, as well as an Assistant Director of Campus Security and a full-time Victim’s Advocate. Athletics continue to play an important role in our student and university development. Eight hundred four student athletes were enrolled in the fall of 2015. The athletic department instituted a retention committee that focused on study tables and student athlete retention. One result was the highest semester grade point average in TU history: 3.14. The top academic female team was women’s tennis with a 3.84 GPA, and the top academic male team was men’s golf with a 3.49 GPA. The fall to spring student athlete retention was 89 percent. Tiffin University has an outstanding Board of Trustees, exceptional faculty, and committed staff who work diligently for the betterment of student success. We have loyal and generous alumni and friends whose names appear in this report. Sincerely, Dr. Lillian Schumacher May 2016
WALL STREET PUB & GRILLE Tiffin University’s newest eatery, the Wall Street Pub & Grille, located at the southeast corner of Wall and Miami Streets, was once the Pettibone Manufacturing Company. According to Walter Miller, District Manager of AVI Food Services, the 4,195-square-foot restaurant offers a “fresh” menu that is a significant departure from a traditional sports establishment—frozen food will be used as little as possible. The menu will include food for kids, appetizers, salads, hamburgers and melt sandwiches, steak, pasta, and unique cast iron dishes such as mac & cheese and desserts…and more. The décor of the Grille is a contemporary, upscale atmosphere with acid-treated cement floors, a polished steel bar and exposed ceiling and glass mosaic tile. It will seat up to 140 people with an additional 30 to 40 seats outside on the patio weather permitting. The building also houses Tiffin University’s newest addition, The Marion Center, and the University’s Bookstore which was previously located in The Gillmor Student Center.
New at Tiffin University The former Pettibone manufacturing building at the southeast corner of Wall and Miami Streets is being renovated into a 4,195-square-foot restaurant, all-purpose hall and the university bookstore.
THE MARION CENTER The Marion Center, named in honor of former TU President Paul and First Lady Susan Marion, will provide an additional venue for musical performances, speakers, banquets, wedding receptions and a variety of activities for students, staff and faculty members, and community organizations. TU’s music program has grown in recent years, so a larger space is needed for rehearsals and concerts performed by the University Choir and other TU musical ensembles. “We are very grateful that the Board of Trustees chose The Marion Center as the name for this wonderful new facility,” said Dr. Paul Marion. “This will be an excellent venue for Tiffin University events and activities as well as for community groups and organizations.” “We have always prided ourselves on sharing our resources with the community,” says President Lillian Schumacher. “This new Tiffin University facility offers The Wall Street Pub & Grille and The Marion Center--both of which we hope our Tiffin and Seneca County community family will embrace.”

Scholarships Fund Dreams Embracing the entire student experience has been an integral part of Kylie Stocker’s life at Tiffin University. The Integrated Language Arts Education major says being active in several honor societies, creating a student organization and working on campus have allowed her to thrive both as a student and as an individual. As a freshman, Stocker noticed that an education club was not offered in the list of student organizations. So with the support of the university, she decided to start the Future Teachers of America club. “I learned the art of organization, marketing and planning. I had to maintain organizational skills by writing laws for the club and I had to create board positions. I learned to market to the campus as a whole in order to get students interested in coming to our events,” she said. “Thanks to Tiffin University believing in my club, I was able to learn skills that I can implement in my future classroom.” In addition to her duties as president of the Future Teachers of America, Stocker takes her education seriously. Throughout her career at TU, she has maintained a high GPA which led to her induction into the prestigious National Society of Leadership and Success and the English Honors Society. Stocker has managed to combine her love of teaching with actual work experience on the TU campus. For the past two years, she has served as a tutor in English and also held a position as a Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) leader. “I tutor anything from beginning English courses to British Literature. As a PAL leader, it is my job to assist in one of the beginning English courses and hold extra study sessions to assist in students’ learning,” she explained. “Not only has working on campus given me great opportunities, it has also given me teaching experience that will help me with my future career.” According to Stocker, the invaluable opportunities she has experienced at TU have been made possible through the generous gifts of donors. For that, she says she will be forever grateful. “The scholarships I have been awarded over the years have allowed me to continue my education and thrive as an individual,” she said. “Without scholarship money, college would not have been possible for me. Now my dream of becoming a teacher will come true in the months to come. I am
forever appreciative and will always be thankful as these scholarships have funded my dream.”
QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS WITH KYLIE Why did you choose Tiffin University? My parents met and graduated from Tiffin University. They would always tell me their stories of how great it was and how TU was truly like a second family to them. They also liked the smaller, one-on-one atmosphere they experienced in the classroom and that is exactly what I was looking for. I am fortunate to have had the same experience. What does being a TU graduate mean to you? Being a TU graduate gives me a sense of pride because it is truly a school to be proud of. The faculty and staff go out of their way to meet your every need. Also, the school is consistently growing— academically as well as the physical campus. TU is truly a school to be proud of. What is your favorite campus memory? My favorite campus memory was when my student organization, Future Teachers of America, put on its first event of the school year (fall 2015). We hosted our annual event, “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader,” and nearly 130 TU students attended. This was not only an accomplishment, it was just great to see people enjoying an event my e-board and I had put so much time into. It’s a very fun event where professors battle education majors in a series of 5th grade-styled questions--which tend to be harder than you would think. It’s always a crowd pleaser when the education majors beat the professors. What do you feel is your greatest accomplishment? My greatest accomplishment was starting a student organization. I had no idea how much knowledge I would obtain when I started it. I just simply wanted a place for all education majors to be able to get together and meet. It taught me how to plan and organize events, and various marketing strategies. What do you want to do with the rest of your life? My ultimate goal is to be a college English professor. It would be an honor to return to TU as a professor—a college that gave me so much knowledge on teaching and language arts.
