DRAGON FAMILY NEWSLETTER FALL 2017 WELCOME WEEKEND 2017 All new students were welcomed to campus on Friday, August 25. There were numerous events and activities planned to welcome the students back to campus. Check out the highlights of the weekend below.
The fun and amazing weather continued into the evening as students were encouraged to come and hang out at the Hayes Courtyard for the Tif-FUN Fest. Inflatables, lawn games and activities were sponsored by a variety of campus organizations.
Students packed Frost-Kalnow Stadium for a green out under the lights. The Dragons fought hard, but were unable to pull out a win in their home-opener. Be sure to check out the TU football team during the Family Day of Fun on September 23. We finished Welcome Week with Meet the Greeks activities. All students were invited to meet and learn more about greek life at TU. This fun filled event featured corn hole, twister and the beginning of many new friendships.
Friday - Welcome to Campus! Moving belongings into a residence hall room is an exciting, but stressful time. Our faculty, staff and upper-class students had such a great time welcoming and helping you!
FIRST-YEAR SEMINAR CLASS
Convocation is the official start to Tiffin University’s academic year. It’s a great way for our faculty, staff and upper-class students to welcome our new students and their families to the Dragon community.
Sunday - Random Acts of Kindness Service Project All first-year students participated in random acts of kindness throughout the campus and the Tiffin community to give back to others. Some of the service projects included a free car wash, cleaning up our local parks, writing letters to active and veteran military personnel, as well as making fleece tie blankets that were sent to the relief effort for Hurricane Harvey victims.
The First-Year Seminar Class is a required course and continuation of Welcome Weekend. It provides an in-depth introduction to college expectations and the realities of campus life, study skills and time management. All first-year students have been meeting with their instructors and peer mentors in class once a week to ease the transition to college for your students.
