For over 50 years, the TVCC has recognized the best of the best of these businesses at the Annual Awards. As this year’s gala approaches, the TVCC would like to take a look back at the 2016 winners. We asked each of these businesses what they believe lead up to their success to being named business of the year by their peers. Read below to hear their thoughts on their success…
Ambassador of the Year, Liza Vega-Tallman, Novell & Novell Counseling Services
Being honored as Ambassador of the Year this past February was extremely rewarding. I have worked at Novell & Novell for 11 years, the last four as Community Outreach Director. At Novell & Novell our goal is to improve the health and functioning of our clients by providing them with quality mental health services. Therefore, we strive to provide excellent customer service and really connect with our clients on a personal level. And as the Community Outreach Director, my job is to connect with businesses and members of the community to let them know who Novell & Novell is and what services we can offer to make lives better. Over the years, as I have worked hard to promote my company in the community, I have come to genuinely care about all the people and businesses I have connected with.

I think what lead to my being named Ambassador of the Year was really caring and going the extra mile to help other business people connect with the TVCC. I believe in the mission and purpose the of the TVCC. SRCAR® staff, Board of Directors and members were so very honored to receive the award of 2015 Sterling Business of the Year. We humbly believe that the reason we were acknowledged is for the work we do with many area nonprofits. Although we are in business to serve our members and help them advance in their careers, we also take our role seriously as being good stewards in the communities we serve. Whether it is our canned food drive, warm coat drive, fundraising and hosting key projects such as our Annual Texas Hold’em Charity events, golf tournaments and Chili Cook off, all these dollars are raised to benefit groups such as Manzanitas Ranch, Project T.O.U.C.H., Michelle’s Place, Our Nicholas Foundation, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Inland Empire, Tiffany’s Gift,

Ruby Service/Charitable Organization of the Year, Rancho Damacitas Children & Family Services
Rancho Damacitas Children & Family Services continues to grow and expand our impactful programs serving current and former foster youth. The year leading up to being recognized as the Ruby Organization of the Year, Rancho Damacitas was transitioning from a Level 9 licensed foster care facility into a Level 12 residential treatment center. We expanded our volunteer program to provide more enrichment opportunities to the children including inspirational speakers and regular campus-wide events hosted by community members. Project Independence, Rancho Damacitas’ transitional living program for young adults, expanded as well serving eight young adults within two homes in Temecula and Murrieta. Today, Rancho Damacitas continues to meet the ever-changing needs of children, teens and young adults with a history of severe abuse and neglect. Thanks to a supportive community, Rancho Damacitas is able to continue our work specializing in some of the most difficult, traumatic cases of child abuse and empowering foster youth to move beyond their painful pasts and thrive!

I always believe my journey to “find myself and know my purpose” began at the age of 19. My parents raised me as a Buddhist and a core belief they have is that I am on this earth to fulfill “something”; I just need to find it. So, during my wayward 20’s and my “grown up” 30’s I kept trying to find my way. Finally, in my 40’s, I learned something so impactful that I was transformed. Intentional Living. It was so easy but so awesome ☺. I started really thinking about every act I did and everything I said. I realized that I was so blessed to have met so many people along my journey that changed my course on the road. I realized that I needed to be aware that everything I did may be equally impactful to someone else and I didn’t want to mess it up. So, I’ve been intentional about my life, my passions, my love for people, my community and my “tribe”.
Emerald Service/Charitable Organization of the Year, Jacob’s House
We believe this honorable and amazing recognition by our peers and members of the community, nominated our organization because of the important work we do to serve families who are suffering traumatic medical crisis by a loved one who is hospitalized in one of our local hospitals. Since opening our doors and taking in our first family in January 2014, we have served 300 guests for 3,000 guest night stays from 28 states and 7 countries. Our local community can be assured that if any one of us is hospitalized due to a life-threatening illness, sudden health tragedy, or accident, their family can find lodging at Jacob’s House, no matter how far away they live. Beyond our primary Mission, our organization is a community organization, built by the community, supported by the community, and serving the community through volunteerism, service organizations and community service hours.

There are various types of business incentives such as the One Stop Permit Center, Site Selection Assistance, Business Liaison Service, Internship Placement, and the Temecula Valley Entrepreneur’s Exchange (TVE2) business resource center and incubator. These are just a few of the many resources provided by the City of Temecula. The One Stop Permit Center is available to business customers based on their individual need. Our team can coordinate the departments which are crucial to your project and provide detailed analysis of your tenant improvement or new construction plans before submitting it officially. Another key incentive offered by the City is site selection assistance. We can help you find the best site for your business, review several sites for consideration, advise on zoning regulations and provide feedback on the necessity of additional permitting. This helps business owners and developers through the due diligence process in making the most well informed decisions. The Business Liaison Service is your business concierge on all City related issues. Our Team is at your service and a great contact for your business at any stage in your process - whether it’s new construction, relocation or expansion. Our Business Liaison is available to assist
you with customized services such as site selection, permitting and development assistance, and marketing. Internship Placement provides college and university students an opportunity to learn about local government. It allows students to work side-by-side with City staff and gain valuable experience while being in school. Local businesses are also assisted by the City of Temecula in obtaining skilled interns via this citywide internship program. One of the most important business incentives that the City of Temecula offers is the Temecula Valley Entrepreneur’s Exchange (TVE2). Located at the former City Hall facility, TVE2’s award-winning Regional Business Resource Center offers workshops on business related topics, one-onone business mentoring/consultations, and networking opportunities. Partners of the Resource Center include organizations such as the Economic Development Corporation of Southwest California, Inland Empire Small Business Development Center, TriTech Small Business Development Center, and the Temecula Valley Chamber of Commerce. Create a scorecard to track your progress. 3. Set Attainable Goals: Unattainable goals erode self-confidence, and “too easy” are equally demotivating. Include a level of risk that is both inspiring, and achievable with accelerated effort. 4. Set Goals in Writing/Visible: Plan your work/work your plan. Keep it simple – one page if you can. Make it fun. Create a Vision Board (a new holiday tradition.)
5. Make an Action Plan: Every journey begins with a first step, what’s yours? Chunk your goals into manageable, progressive steps. 6. Stick with It!: Schedule a consistent goal check-in time each week. Don’t dwell on past performance—stay positive. Each day presents new opportunity for success —and it’s the only thing in your control. And finally—if goal setting isn’t for you, chose a mantra or new attitude. What problem do you need to solve the most? Identify it. Challenge yourself to solve it every day. Live your theme with intention and mindfulness. A vision without a plan is…hallucination! The Southwest California Legislative Council considers it a privilege to advocate on behalf of business interests in Southwest Riverside County. We would like to thank our dedicated Legislators and their local staffs for their support and cooperation in 2016. Thanks also to our sponsors, supporters and Chamber coalition partners.
ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL YEAR FOR LOCAL ADVOCACY GROUP Now that the heat of recent legislative sessions and elections has cooled some, the Southwest California Legislative Council has published its 11th Annual Legislators’ Vote Record. This past session, The SWCLC adopted positions on 84 state bills, supporting 32 and opposing 52. Twenty four bills made their way through the legislative process and were among the 1,059 that landed on the Governor’s desk. The Council supported 14 of those and opposed 10. The Council worked to support issues of local concern like returning Vehicle License Fees to local cities (SB817 – vetoed again), making it easier for small businesses to accommodate ADA requirements (SB269 - Chaptered), and defeating the Senate Pro-Tem’s attempt to stack the local SCAQMD Board. Overall, there were more than 3,100 bills, constitutional amendments and other measures introduced this session. Many bills, both JOB KILLERS and JOB CREATORS were rejected by legislators in policy or fiscal committees, thus stopping proposals before they reached the floor for a vote. Other bills were amended, some as many as 10 times, before reaching their final resting place. A few bills suffered the ignominious ‘gut-and-amend’ procedure rendering them unrecognizable from their original form. That’s usually when bad stuff happens but with the recent passage of Proposition 54, the ‘Legislature Transparency Act’, we may not see this as much in the future. We hope. Our local legislators, Senator Jeff Stone, and Assembly Members Melissa Melendez and Marie Waldron, all scored well again this year voting with the Council 90+% of the time. Even Governor Brown voted in accord 63%, up from just 47% last year. In 2014 he was with us 60% of the time, 64% in 2013 and 62% in 2012. On average, Gov.
