Power Networking Workshop Power Networking Workshop Book Report: Little Red Book of Selling by Jeffrey Gitomer 12.5 Principles of Sales Greatness and How to Make Sales Forever The Little Red Book will help readers discover what can be the little differences between him or her and every other salesperson in the world. It’s a humorous book of lists, questions, reality checks and ‘in-your-face’ motivation for anyone who needs to convince others to make purchases of his company. It’s designed to read over and over and not necessarily from the front cover straight through to the end. Written in an article—or magazine—format, the Little Red Book has a vast wealth of information, some of it you probably already know but might not have thought about in a while. The book is designed to be studied, underlined, highlighted and written on in the margins. Sprinkled with cartoons and light-hearted “I told you so” it makes for great reading—even if you have limited time. You can easily spend a few minutes with one list, or sit down and read a few chapters and still gain valuable knowledge from your time. The author says this about his book: “The Little Red Book of Selling” could also be titled the “Little Red Book of Buying”. The subtle difference in sales between the successful and the unsuccessful is the difference between trying to sell what you have, and creating the atmosphere where the prospect will buy what you have. “People don’t like to be sold, but they love to buy,” has become more than a registered trademark to me—it’s my mantra. And throughout the course of this book you must begin to adopt a philosophy that drives you to a higher, value driven, helping purpose. It’s also interesting that in several places in the book, Gitomer will give a web address and a key search term to use once you get to his website. It seems to be a very clever method to track how many people are really reading and applying his book material, plus, it drives more traffic to his website where more books and products are sold. See www.gitomer.com
“If you want to be wealthy study wealth and hang around wealthy people. The same goes for if you want to be a great salesperson, or if you want to be a great comedian, or if you want to be a great dad. The element of student, the element of mentor, the element of attitude, and the element of selfish all play a vital role in this process.”
Besides the 12.5 principles of sales greatness, there are 18.5 secrets of success, 8.5 resources for finding more information on prospects, the 6.5 principles of giving value, 13.5 elements to drive creative process, and even the 21.5 best places to network (with chambers of commerce weighing in at number 1).
Don’t you really want to read this book now? Book Report provided by Jann Gentry; Gentry Studio

Chamber Says “No”
to National Workers Compensation Commission A federal proposal, newly introduced, looks to establish a national commission to study state workers’ compensation laws. H.R. 635, if passed, would assemble a 14-person commission charged with, among other duties, studying and evaluating each State’s workers’ compensation laws in order to determine if such laws provide an adequate, prompt, and equitable system of compensation for injury or death arising out of or in the course of employment. Furthermore, the commission will be charged with studying and evaluating whether additional remedies should be recommended to ensure prompt and good faith payment of benefits and medical care to injured workers and their families. It is this last part of the Commission’s duties that is cause for serious concern for businesses in the state of California. “Our State has done a fine job of monitoring and evaluating its’ workers’ compensation laws in order to provide the necessary remedies and payment of benefits to our injured employees,” stated Alice Sullivan, President and CEO of the Temecula Valley Chamber of Commerce. “California is in a unique situation, when compared to other states’ workers’ compensation systems, as we have reformed our workers’ compensation system to make sure businesses remain equitable,” continued Sullivan. The workers’ compensation reforms of 2004 have continued to allow business in California to remain equitable and the Chamber has fought every year on the behalf of its members to make sure these reforms stay intact. We feel that if H.R. 635 passes and a commission is created to study workers’ compensation systems throughout of the country, California could be included with other states that may have out of control workers compensation rates. It is the belief of this Chamber that workers’ compensation systems need to be state controlled and not regulated based on what is happening in other states. H.R. 635, on the surface, appears to be only calling for a “study.” When, in actuality, it is another attempt at creating a “one size fits all” set of federal guidelines for states’ workers’ compensation laws. California has effectively modernized its systems. Based on improved research, states have employed a myriad of innovative tools in order to address the system. Log on to www.SouthwestCA.biz for more information and how you can participate in the advocacy efforts of the TVCC.
TVCC Supports Legislative Water Crisis Solution California is in its third year of a drought and Temecula Valley businesses are being asked to reduce water usage as much as possible. There are a number of methods available to businesses to aid efforts to conserve water. However, many conservation efforts do carry a large price tag potential placing businesses at a competitive disadvantage. With such a hefty price tag, businesses are seeking other ways to mitigate its chronic water needs. As reasonable solution is a legislative proposal supported by the Temecula Valley Chamber. AB 474 will mitigate the initial outlay for any business willing to increase their conservation efforts. “The Chamber is well aware of the need to cut back on water consumption and we are open to new innovated ways to do so,” stated Alice Sullivan, President and CEO of the Temecula Valley Chamber of Commerce. “AB 474 is a solution in the right direction in which it will give property owners the choice of conserving, while at the same time allowing the economical means to install conservation minded improvements,” continued Sullivan. The key provision of AB 474 allows commercial and residential property owners to enter into an agreement with public agencies (in this case, water agencies) to receive upfront financing for the installation of permanent water use efficiency improvements. Property owners will then be allowed to pay an annual assessment until all costs associated with the project are repaid to the public agency. Assembly Bill 474 expands upon last year’s AB 811, which authorized the use of voluntary assessment agreements between cities, counties and property owners for financing energy efficiency projects.
