June 11, 2015, Temecula, California – The “best of the best” Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac dealers were recently honored at the General Motors Dealer of the Year award ceremony. Paradise Chevrolet Cadillac located in Temecula, California was among the elite dealers recently awarded the Dealer of the Year Award. Sixtythree Chevrolet, 19 Buick, 20 GMC and 21 Cadillac dealers received 2014 awards; there are approximately 4,300 GM U.S. dealers. To receive this honor, a Dealer must be a top performer in Sales and Customer Satisfaction. Dealers also must show commitment

to these areas on a long term basis by retaining customers, using only Genuine GM parts, participating in Standards for Excellence and maintaining compliance with the Essential Brand Elements program requirements. Terry Gilmore, Paradise Chevrolet Cadillac’s Owner/President comments, “I am very proud of each and every one of our employees for their efforts in making our dealership one of the best in the United States. It is due to their commitment and dedication to excellence that Paradise Chevrolet Cadillac holds this prestigious award.”
S u c c e s s f u l Sm a l l B u s i n e s s As a business consultant, I am often asked the tough question of what is the secret to creating a successful small business? After giving it much thought and looking at examples of success, I have come to the realization that defining success is different for each individual business owner. It is different because each starts with his or her own definition of success and with a different path to achieving the same. That realization means that the answer is as tough as the question. If you take a moment to look, you will find that success will come in many shapes and sizes. Yes, I am sure we would all love to be millionaires and could easily call that a success. But at the same time, I would call you successful if you added two more sales accounts this week, launched a new brand, hired that first employee, or took on the risk of starting your own business. I have worked with a few business owners that have all the toys and vacation often, but have a cash poor and failing business model so the obvious, outward signs of success are not supported or sustainable. While some may feel that model is successful, other may not, but that is for you to decide. The key is to define one’s own measures of success rather than look at and compare it to what others are doing or achieve 4 | Temec ul a To day | J u ly • A u gu st 2 0 1 5
So I assert that the key to success is to not worry about what others are doing, set your own benchmarks for success, and don’t be afraid to fail. “Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm,” said Winston Churchill. Don’t beat yourself up when you have a setback take that experience as the cost of education, learn from it. If you take the lessons from the failure and learn and grow from it, you will have no choice but to improve and with that comes success. Michael Jordan said it best: “I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” Paul Nolta is a Business Consultant with the Inland Empire Small Business Development Center, a non-profit organization that provides free consulting and training services to small businesses in the Inland Empire. The SBDC, under contract with The City of Temecula’s TVE2 and The Temecula Chamber of Commerce provides free consulting services for businesses and citizens of Temecula Valley. In late 2014 their dream came to fruition. Salon de la Mariee was opened with the idea “It’s about time that the Valley has a salon that is as sophisticated and quaint as Temecula itself.” With two young millennial entrepreneurs entering an over saturated field both found themselves amongst doubters. “Being so young, most people we brought our idea to were afraid for us to start; they feared the unknown, but we set out to prove those who doubted us wrong.” With over 15 years of experience between them, both are constantly bringing a fresh perspective untainted from the way-it-issupposed-to-be mindset that is so prevalent in today’s business world. Temecula holds a special place in their lives. Both are Temecula natives and have watched the city grow from a small old-fashioned town to one that is being hailed as one of the fastest growing cities. “Many individuals with whom we grew up with wanted to leave Temecula to experience life outside their childhood town. But now more and more are returning to Temecula because of all that it offers to small business owners.” Today, Cole and Tymorie see hundreds of clients at their salon monthly. Their motto is “for the best version of yourself” and they truly live by this aphorism. They offer services ranging from cut and color for men and women, bridal beauty, makeup education, skin care, and freelance/ mobile special event hair and makeup.
Business Name: King Barrel Address: 42030 Main Street, Temecula, CA. 92590 (Storefront) 2185 Del Mar Road, Norco, CA. 92860 Email: info@kingbarrel.biz Phone: (951) 545-2644 Website: kingbarrel.biz Located in the heart of Old Town Temecula, King Barrel is an eco-friendly company that creates décor from retired wine and whiskey barrels. Years ago Moses Briseno used to own his own trucking company in which he would travel up and down the California coast delivering goods. This all changed when he got a call to deliver a load of wine barrels from Napa down to Southern California. From that day on he fell in love with the uniqueness and versatility that each barrel held. With no background in woodworking Moses originally used the barrels only for décor purposes. After working with the product for some time, he got creative and started designing custom stools, benches, pet beds, trash cans, and even renting out his product for special events. From there his unique business took off. “What I like about King Barrel is the uniqueness of each product. Everything is handcrafted by Moses. He takes a lot of time to build each product to its uniqueness, and no two products are alike” stated his wife Monique. They have proudly provided products for companies such as Knott’s Berry Farm, Bacardi, Tilted Kilt, Old Town San Diego, Lorimar Winery in Temecula, Armstrong Nursery, TJ Maxx, and Homegoods. “We are blessed to have a talented team working to custom design and create your unique piece. We can help you create a unique one of a kind design. We can customize lazy Susan’s, beverage coolers, fountains, bars, stools, chairs, rockers, sinks, pet houses, and beds in other words anything! No project is too big or small.”

The Temecula Valley Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce the launch of our rebranding. No matter the size, nature, or medium of a local business, the Temecula Valley Chamber of Commerce will directly continue to position itself as a place “Where Business Meets Opportunity.” As the Temecula Business community grows and diversifies, so follows its needs, and the TVCC has modeled itself on an adaptable platform to accommodate them. Traditionally, Chambers of Commerce focus solely on networking events to promote their members and services. However, in a place and time where many businesses have outgrown that model (or in the case of online markets, may never have fit into it properly at all), a Chamber must offer a variety of platforms for business connections. The Temecula Chamber is doing just that, with educational classes for new businesses, sponsorship opportunities for those seeking exposure, partnerships for companies wishing to build local alliances, and much more. The Temecula Valley Chamber of Commerce encompasses multiple services for a variety of business needs. What sets the TVCC apart is its ability to cater to a diverse range of business types using customized strategies for each. By dividing the Chambers resources into four membership options, we will be able to better serve the business community by honing in on the services that are relevant to their needs. What does this mean for you and your business? With these four options you can tailor your membership to achieve your business objectives. These four categories are listed below. Education: The Temecula Valley Chamber of Commerce offers a wide variety of educational opportunities to its members. Through workshops, speaking engagements, and personalized counseling, chamber members gather insight on common business and marketing problems and their solutions. Marketing & Event Promotion: The Chamber offers the ability to sponsor events and be featured on various publications and collateral distributed by the organization. This gives members an opportunity to market themselves with less legwork and a broader reach than face to face networking strategies. Networking Opportunities: Many of those in the business community still greatly benefit from face to face contact with their peers. The Temecula Valley Chamber of Commerce hosts a multitude of events throughout the year- both intimate and expansive- to bring business 8 | Temec ul a To day | J u ly • A u gu st 2 0 1 5

persons together for the opportunity to network. These events are designed to suit a wide variety of business types and availabilities, and often coincide with educational workshops to increase networking effectiveness. Online Promotion: The Temecula Valley Chamber of Commerce wishes to cater to all business types, including the growing number of companies whose target markets increasingly come from an internet presence. For these companies, as well as those who do not have time to market themselves personally, the Chamber offers opportunities for online promotion. The Temecula Valley Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to growing a healthy business community through the support of its individual members and community alliances. TVCC has demonstrated a proven track record since 1966, advocating for the well-being of the business community as a whole by connecting local businesses with the tools they need to be a thriving success. The TVCC is continually positioning itself as an invaluable business resource and is looking forward to welcoming new members, while continuing to meet the unique and individual needs of its current members with the belief that when one business thrives, the business community as a whole succeeds.

I n d u s t r y l e a d e r s ci t e r e n e w e d g a in s f o l l o w in g n a t i o n ’ s ‘ G r e a t R e c e s s i o n ’ The Temecula area is continuing to gain its financial footing in the aftermath of the “Great Recession,” industry leaders agreed last week at a regional economic forum. That continuing economic improvement, the speakers and panelists agreed, signals solid gains over last year and a major improvement over the past six years. “I really feel like this will be a long period of economic strength,” said Gary London, one of the event’s two keynote speakers. The region, state and nation are in the midst of a “long, slow recovery” that is just now being felt in several segments of the economy, said London, whose company analyzes trends and advises developers, investors, lenders and public agencies. “We were down so deep for so long,” he told audience members at the $40-per-person breakfast event. London said weak economies across the globe are fueling investment in American companies and industries. He predicted a resurgence of new housing development over the next few years. “I’m feeling pretty optimistic about this right now,” said London, who described himself as a dirt-kicking economist. “We’re seeing new projects and new people out there.” A report from a retail expert was equally upbeat. “The perception of the market is really good right now,” said Lisa Hill-McCay, a vice president of Buxton, a customer analytics firm that boast more than 3,000 clients in the retail, restaurant, health care, private equity and public sectors. “From a retailer perspective, it’s very positive now,” said Hill-McKay, who was the other keynote speaker. The June 10 forum, which was held at South Coast Winery, attracted about 200 participants. It was sponsored by the Temecula Valley Chamber of Commerce and its theme was “Continuing Prosperity.” Buxton was hired by Temecula in March to do a $40,000 retail recruitment report. A goal of that “custom, targeted retail assessment” will be to attract retailers who have not yet opened stores in the city, according to a Temecula staff report prepared at that time. The company has not yet finished its work, but many of those targets were identified in advance of Temecula’s appearance at a retail industry conference last month, said City Manager Aaron Adams.Adams said he expects some of the firm’s findings and conclusions will be presented at a future City Council meeting. Adams was an assistant city manager when he participated in a similar forum that the chamber had titled “Surviving 2009.” That event, which took place about six months after the start of a vexing recession, featured a prominent Inland Empire economist as the keynote speaker. The expert advised
his audience that an economic rebound wouldn’t happen before the year 2012. Speakers at the chamber’s 2013 presentation cited solid job gains for Temecula and Murrieta, but they noted that many Inland Empire cities had yet to gain traction amid the recovering economy. Last year’s session featured a bullish tone that was buttressed by declining unemployment, surging retail sales and steady increases in the issuance of residential and commercial building permits. City officials have repeatedly emphasized the need to attract a steady stream of retailers to Temecula. Temecula retailers and auto dealers bring the city nearly $29 million a year in sales tax revenue, which ranks 44th among the state’s 539 cities and counties. Temecula relies on 79 shopping centers for much of that revenue. The largest is the Promenade mall, which totals about 1.1 million square feet. Temecula Mayor Jeff Comerchero, who attended the chamber event but did not speak, has referred to his city as “the economic hub” of Southwest Riverside County. That status was endorsed by several members of a panel discussion, where topics included the city’s new hospital and the region’s $651 million a year tourism industry that employs about 7,000 workers. Much of the tourism growth is attributed to the area’s wine country and its steadily-expanding Pechanga Resort & Casino. Although drought conditions might slow the process, predictions call for several existing wineries to expand and many new ones to open, said Peggy Evans, executive director of the Temecula Valley Winegrowers Association. “Tourism in Temecula, as you well know, has been booming the last few years,” said Evans, who served as one of the event’s panelists. “We have great products and a very engaged community.” Written by: Tim O’Leary, The PressEnterprise.
