SIMMENTAL FOCUS-7
.....Welcome to fall y’all! Is it just me or did summer fly by way too fast? When I was younger I couldn’t get time to go by fast enough, and now I can’t get the brakes on to slow it up....... it would be nice to have the option to hit the pause the button and maybe even the rewind every once in awhile..... ..... a little recap on the weather this summer.. Let’s just say the only thing for “certain “ was that it was “uncertian”... Everything from a good ole” snow storm on May long weekend to 30 degrees in September!.... thanks Mother Nature! Some parts of the country had excess moisture and yet neer nil in others. There were lots of reports of hail storms, which isn’t surprising given the sizzling temperatures that we had mid-summer, and even some very severe tornado action in Southwest Manitoba... Enough about the weather, we can’t change it and the weather man sure can’t predict it, and even when we complain, nobody listens anyways! ...Lots of news to report....here we go! Our sincere condolences to the family of Bert’s NR Simmentals on the passing of Norbert’s dad, Robert de Rocquigny, he will be missed by many. Congratulations to Jacquie & Darryl Warkentin, Triple R Simmentals, who celebrated their 25th Anniversary in June and also both celebrated milestone birthdays this year! Also, Rolland Dequier, Triple R Simmentals, celebrated his 75th birthday in July. A big year for the folks at Triple R! Stay tuned... Get well wishes to Bonnie Glasman, M & J Farms & Neil Moffat, both are nursing leg injuries, nothin’ a few screws and plates won’t fix... speedy recovery you two! Congratulations to Bill & Nancy Biglieni, WLB Livestock, on celebrating their 35th wedding anniversary in August, heard your cruise was beautiful! Ian & Marlene Harive, Harvie Ranching, celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary recently, congratulations! Also celebrating a milestone birthday, Gordon Jones, Gordon Jones Simmentals, turned the big 6-0, hope you celebrated in style buddy... And Happy Birthday to Vera Osborne, 3 Star Simmentals, who also celebrated a milestone birthday! We also heard that Jill Mader was surprised by hubby Ryley with a trip to Vegas for her milestone birthday.... thanks man, way to set the bar for the rest of us!! Haha... As for babies & weddings, look for details elsewhere in this issue... ...well that about wraps it up on my end. So here is hoping to get the harvest finshed up, the feed hauled in, and them good Simmental calves gathered up. See you down the show & sale trail..... John

8th Annual Manitoba Youth Beef Roundup Described As An Unbelievable Learning Educational Weekend
Fifity-five enthusiastic Manitoba and Saskatchewan Junior Cattle Producers attended the 8th Annual Manitoba Youth Beef Roundup held July 31-August 2 in Neepawa, MB. Excitement in the cattle industry brought out a top notch group of interested cattle producers and 88 head of cattle. Where else can you attend an event with 55 Junior members all working together as teams and individual competitions, to learn the skills needed in the livestock industry? This is not just a cattle show, it is an all around event to promote and educate youth to continue on in the livestock industry. Our show would not happen without our dedicated sponsors who have stood behind this Junior All Breeds show and helped to make it a success. The weekend started off with the Ag Challenge, sponsored by Gold Sponsor Mazer Group, a timed competition with some hands on knowledge of the livestock industry. The Juniors enjoyed the challenges and tasks they were given, like halter making, verified beef, parts of the animal and tattooing an animal. The winning team (pictured below): Raina Syrnyk, Nolan Glover, Harleigh Carlson, Emily Speers, Sierra Inglis and Cody Carson.

Agribition and Semex Partner for a New Purebred Beef Jackpot
July 16, 2015 Regina, Saskatchewan – Canadian Western Agribition (CWA) will host a new bull calf jackpot event at Agribition in 2015. President’s Classic presented by Semex, will take place in the Chevrolet GMC Stadium on Tuesday, November 24th. A panel of three experts will judge bull calves within their breed, culminating in a grand finale featuring the champion of each breed vying for the President’s Classic title. The total payout for the event will exceed $7,500. “Semex is proud to be a part of this inaugural and exciting event. Bulls are our business and we are happy to support Agribition’s platform to identify the next great group of future herd sires developed by purebred beef breeders,” says Myles Immerkar, Manager of Global Beef Programs with Semex Alliance. “Agribition is the country’s largest purebred beef show,” says CWA Beef Committee Chair, Chris Lees. “Integrating First Lady Classic and President’s Classic is an ideal way to kick off the week.” Agribition drew in over 800 visitors from over 70 countries last year. “These types of competitions are a catalyst in securing exports to new markets; they are widely regarded as an integral part of marketing beef cattle genetics for our producers,” says Lees. First Lady Classic, presented by Merck, is also a jackpot event which sees judges select the top yearling heifer at Agribition. Last year the total amount paid out in First Lady Classic was $7,600. Entries for President’s Classic and First Lady Classic close October 1st. For more information, please contact: Chris Harris, Communications Associate P: 306.924.9583 C: 306.551.
