The project collected a broad range of stories that represent the cultural diversity of the persons whose lives have been affected by the growth of the Vidalia® onion industry in southeast Georgia. The project includes stories from farmers, agricultural agents, marketing professionals, social service providers, migrant workers and their families and Georgia Southern University students who grew up in the area.w

9 With fireworks going off in the background, Georgia Southern center Andy Kwon celebrates a touchdown by teammate L.A. Ramsby during Saturday's contest against South Alabama at Paulson Stadium.
Eagles roll over South Alabama It’s not often that a team scores 55 points and we start by talking about the defense. But that’s exactly what is happening this week. For the third game in a row, Georgia Southern’s defense allowed a score on the opponent’s opening drive of the game and then got really stingy. The first drive of the game for South Alex Alabama covered 75 yards, but the Jaguars only managed 61 yards for the rest to total 136 for the game. The Eagles answered with a touchdown to tie the game at 7, but then put the ball on the ground. The Jaguars recovered and ran it back for a touchdown and a 14-7 lead midway through the second quarter. It was all Eagles from that point forward as Southern put three touchdowns on the board in the last 6:28 of the first half to take a 28-14 lead into the break. USA blocked a punt early in the third quarter and started a drive inside the Georgia Southern 10, but the Eagle defense held them to a field goal. Georgia Southern rattled off 27 unanswered points to close out the 55-17 win. Tattler Game Ball: With 187 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries, Matt Breida gets the game ball this week. It had been a while since he had one of those Breida-esque performances Eagle fans have come to love. Before Saturday, he last posted tripledigit rushing yardage when he put up 205 against Texas State on Oct. 29. On the season, Breida has 1,495 yards — ninth-most in the country — and 16 touchdowns. He’s averaging 8.3 yards per carry and 135.9 yards per game. It’s hard to believe, but the regular season wraps up this weekend as Georgia Southern hosts Georgia State. The Panthers (5-6, 4-3) are much improved this season. But that’s not saying much. They couldn’t get much worse than they have been since starting the program in 2010.
But seriously, they are better this year. Georgia State has a chance to become bowl-eligible for the first time in program history with a win over the Eagles Saturday. The Panthers come in on a roll as they have won three in a row over Texas State, South Alabama and Troy. But Georgia Southern beat those three teams by a combined 97 points all Brown within the last month. State is dealing with an entirely different animal this week. Tattler Prediction: Georgia State will throw it around and may hit a big play or two, but with the way Southern’s defense has been playing, I don’t envision the Panthers having a field day or anything. Throw in the fact that the Eagles ran absolutely wild on State last year to the tune of 621 rushing yards in Southern’s 69-31 blowout win at the Georgia Dome. If State’s defense hasn’t figured something out since then, it could be a really long day for the Panthers. They looked completely lost last year trying to stop the Eagles’ offense. I’m thinking it should be a little more competitive than last year, but Southern still wins convincingly. Eagles 49, Panthers 17 Win or lose, Georgia Southern will be going to a bowl and the Eagles will learn their bowl fate on Sunday evening. The Sun Belt has four bowl tie-ins: New Orleans, Camellia, Cure and GoDaddy. Three of those four will be played Saturday, Dec. 19. The GoDaddy Bowl is Wednesday, Dec. 23. Saturday is Senior Day and the regular season finale. This senior class sacrificed two years of postseason eligibility to allow this program to move to college football’s highest level. And now that Georgia Southern has made the transition to FBS, these seniors have made it worth the wait. They led this team to a conference championship last season and the program’s first ever bowl this year. Eagle Nation, let’s Pack Paulson

this weekend and show these guys how much they are appreciated as they suit up for the final time at Our House. It’s Southern vs. State for the
first time ever at Paulson Stadium and it’s a Blue Out. It’s time to put these Panthers in their place. Just one more time, Eagles!w

4 ways to not go broke this Christmas Christmas time is such a magical time of year, but it can also be an expensive time of year. Between buying gifts, decorations, food and all the different Christmas related activities, it can really be hard on the budget. Here are 4 ways to help you still have a magical Christmas, but not break the bank: 1. Trim the expensive tree out of your budget There is nothing that says Christmas more than sitting under the lights of the Christmas tree. It is where you put your presents and hang your beloved Christmas ornaments. So what do you do when you cannot afford a tree? One option is to use a plant you already own. If you have a live or fake plant that is big enough to double as a Christmas tree, use it. Spruce it up with lights and ornaments and if you can, drape a Christmas tree skirt around the pot it is in. It may not be the real deal, but it can be a cost effective alternative. Another idea: Make your own tree. Use decorative paper to cut out a Christmas tree and tape it to your wall, or outline a tree in Christmas lights. The main idea is try to be creative; you do not have to get a real 6-foot tree just because that is the tradition. Do what works for your family and your budget. 2. Lighting up your home Christmas lights are always a fun tradition, but they can cause a big increase to your electric bill. Instead of having a big light display this year, replace the lights you already use with holiday colors. Inside your house, string up holiday lights and use those instead of your regular lamps to light your home. It brings a nice festive glow to your home without using more electricity than you normally would. If you really want to see some holiday lights, take a night to check out the lights in your neighborhood. You still get to enjoy Christmas lights without breaking the bank.
3. Give the gift of time Instead of buying gifts this year, try giving of yourself instead. Here are some fun and easy ideas: shovel your neighbor’s walkway, handwrite a note of appreciation to someone, offer to babysit for free, clean your sister’s house top to bottom, wash your brother’s laundry for a month, teach your friend how to make your worldfamous cookies, or give them 10 free piano lessons. All of these ideas will cost you next to nothing, but they are things that are unique and special. You may be hesitant to give something free, but I know I would much rather have someone clean my house from top to bottom then get something I don’t really need. 4. Don’t spend a dime on your Christmas activities There are so many wonderful events that go on during the Christmas season, including: concerts, parties, events with Santa Clause, and the list goes on. A lot of these activities can cost you a pretty penny, but there are also a lot of holiday activities that cost nothing at all. There are several tree lighting ceremonies at local malls and outlet centers that have live performances, free cocoa, and even a visit from Santa that do not cost a thing. If you want to go to some holiday concerts, pay attention to your local school’s schedule. High school choirs and bands always have a holiday concert around this time of year, and most (if not all) are free to attend. It is a great way to get your holiday music fix while supporting your local community. The bottom line is; you can still have a magical Christmas season without going broke. It is easy to get lost in the excitement of the season and ignore your budget, but most of us end up regretting that when the season is over. Plan ahead for what you really want to spend your money on, then use some of these budget friendly ideas for the rest of your holiday needs.w
SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 23 –Dec. 21) — Don't let anyone meddle in your affairs. Keep your thoughts to yourself and your private matters secret. Interference from others will be what stands between you and success. CAPRICORN (Dec. 22– Jan. 19) — Your desire for change may concern the people who love you. Follow your heart. If your actions are less transparent, you will avoid interference. Be true to yourself and forge ahead. AQUARIUS (Jan. 20–Feb. 19) — Someone you love will demand extra attention. Don't give in too readily if you have made a prior commitment. It's important that you respect your needs as well. PISCES (Feb. 20– March 20) — Take care of pressing health problems. Make an appointment with your doctor or get some needed rest. Don't let anyone upset you or cause undue stress. Nurture your emotional and physical needs. ARIES (March 21– April 19) — Speak up and clear the air if you feel it will help a conflict you have with someone. Anger is a waste of time, and ignoring the situation will result in emotional stress. TAURUS (April 20– May 20) — Look at the big picture and find a way to reach your destination. A monetary gain is apparent if you put in the time and effort to finish what you start.
GEMINI (May 21– June 20) — Engage in some serious self-reflection in order to discover a way to address any problem you are experiencing. Downtime will give you the opportunity to think and make a decision. CANCER (June 21– July 22) — Avoid joint money ventures. An older or younger person in your life will compete for your attention. A compassionate and mindful approach will clear up a misunderstanding. LEO (July 23–Aug. 22) — The more you pursue the things you want, the better you will do and the more you will gain. Keep in mind that a penny saved is a penny earned. VIRGO (Aug. 23– Sept. 22) — Expect someone to make poor assumptions. Ignore what's being said and paint a clear picture that reveals the facts in order to bypass trouble and accomplish great things. LIBRA (Sept. 23– Oct. 23) — Empty promises will be a result of you not wanting to make up your mind or make a move. Assess the situation and take action — only then will you reap full advantage. SCORPIO (Oct. 24– Nov. 22) — You'll accomplish the most if you stay out of the spotlight. Secretly making changes to your routine or a plan will help you avoid interference.w
Holli Deal Saxon YOU THOUGHT YOUR ROOMATE WAS BAD — A Bartlett Drive man and woman are separated but still living in the same house, on opposite ends. The man told the woman she had to leave the house for Thanksgiving because his family is coming, but she refused, stating she had a right to be there. He made a “gun symbol” with his hand, she said, and she asked him what he meant by it. He replied, “You know.” She wanted a report done for documentation. OH, THOSE WOMEN IN FLORIDA — An elderly man was found walking down Nevils-Groveland Road, staggering, after a complainant called to report he was harassing them at their home and was unwanted. When questioned, the offender
started talking about being treated badly by women in Florida. He was arrested on public intoxication charges. HOME-WRECKER — A Marissa Court woman became angry when she was given a photo of her ex-husband with her best friend. She threw the man’s clothing in a flower bed and broke a picture frame containing a photo of him that she discovered had been given to him by her best friend. WHEN COPS TALK — listen up! A man involved in a fight at a Mulberry Court location continued to be unruly and irate and yelled profanities after police told him to calm down. The offender was charged with public intoxication and disorderly conduct. w

You will be given new ideas to explore, with no step by step guidelines or examples on how others may be doing it. That’s because others probably are not doing it. We also want to see what ideas you come up with on your own. It’s part of a special new effort to discover, test and deploy new strategic, innovative ways to grow audience and revenues. The process will be a challenge to your creativity and determination to make things happen. You need to show that you are really creative in a fast-paced environment that is never satisfied with the way it has always been or the way it is today. If what we’ve said so far sparks curiosity, have a working knowledge of HTML/CSS and want to join a great team, you should apply. If you are also good at Wordpress and Social Media Management, you may be exactly what we are looking for so don’t let this opportunity pass you by. You will report to and work directly with the Director of Strategic Initiatives, Morris Multimedia with offices in Statesboro GA. This is a full time career opportunity with competitive salary, performance bonuses and full company benefit package including paid vacation, sick leave, group insurance and 401K options. The exact earnings package we offer will depend on what assets you bring to the table and how they translate to reaching corporate goals. Any related experience or training in digital services including google ad words or social media will be helpful. This position is available immediately. To apply, e-mail your resume and cover letter to: Randy Morton, randy@morrismultimedia.com. Advanced Media Solutions (AdvancedMediaSolutions.net) is a Digital Agency Services subsidiary of Morris Multimedia.
