When staff asked who I was going to present the President’s award to I knew who it was going to be, however, for those of you who have served as a past president you know it’s a challenge only because our members are so great we want to give lots of awards. So many deserve one. From our spouses, to the ones who keep our business going while we are fulfilling our GAR obligations, to those who are there to help with whatever we need. You know who you are and I thank all of you! For those of you who know me well, you probably remember in 2010 I ran into a rather rough patch, both physically and in my desire to continue in a leadership position in the association. I had reached a low point and decided to “throw in the towel.” But as fate would have it on that very day I received a phone call. I was encouraged, uplifted and chastised just a little that I might be letting the people down who believed in me if I gave up. This person has continued to stand beside me, and this year has gone above and beyond whatever I’ve asked her to do. She has worked tirelessly, not only for me, but for our association…. She’s the ultimate GAR member with a heart of gold! Whenever something needs to be Done you can always count on her!
