In choosing Ogeechee Area Hospice as the Best Home Healthcare Provider in the 2015 Best of the Boro contest, Executive Director Nancy Bryant believes voters recognized the quality of service Ogeechee Area Hospice offers. “Hospice home care is a very comprehensive service including a registered nurse that visits and oversees the care of each patient along with nursing assistants to assist with personal hygiene, social workers, volunteers, chaplains and physical therapist when needed,” she said. “Hospice care is for the whole family and many people are eligible that don’t even know it. We care for people for weeks or months, often in our home care program.” Bryant said a staff that puts patient needs first probably stood out to voters. “I am very proud of our skilled and caring staff,” she said. “It is said that hospice care is a calling and I have come to know that this is true. It is the compassion that goes along with our care that, I believe, stands out for the public.” Bryant looks forward to continuing the services that earned them Best of the Boro honors. “We are going to ensure that our care continues to be the highest in quality,” she said. “Also we intend to continue spreading the word, in various ways, that Hospice care is not just for the last few days of life. When his father retired three years ago after working at Denmark Furniture in Brooklet for 32 years, Roosevelt Cone thought the small moving business he operated with his dad, Rosie Cone, would grow. He was right. Three years after being established as an incorporated business, Rosie and Son was named Best Moving Company in the 2015 Best of the Boro contest. “Being at Denmark for 32 years, lots of folks know my father,” the younger Roosevelt Cone said. “I began helping out when I was 12 and we had moved a lot of people through the years. When he retired from Denmark, we decided to make it full time. I think the small town word of mouth, the comfort people have in dealing with us and our fair prices made us popular with voters.” Also, Cone said customers appreciate there are no hidden costs after he makes an estimate for moving services. “We sit down and give them all the costs up front,” he said. “No surprises. We don’t give you a price and then it’s all of a sudden higher. We also laugh and joke because moving is stressful for our clients.” Cone said he believes Rosie and Son will have a good chance at the 2016 Best in Boro honor “as long as we continue to treat people right, with the goal of making the move as easy as possible.”

As owner of Colonial House of Flowers, Christy Hulsey thinks voters selected Colonial as the top Florist in the 2015 Best of the Boro contest because “We are a very local shop that has been here 50 years. We love Statesboro and the public knows that.” Hulsey said her creative staff will work with customers to get the exact arrangement they are looking for. “We really strive to lift people up with our arrangements and if it’s not what someone really wants, we’ll work with them until they get exactly what they want,” Hulsey said. “We’ll also let people come in and design their own arrangements if they have a picture in their minds of what they want.” As part of their goal to “be authentic” and work closely with the community, Hulsey said Colonial House of Flowers offer floral design courses each year at Georgia Southern and Ogeechee Technical College. “We have such a hard-working staff and we all love what we’re doing,” she said. “We plan to keep doing what we love and I know people will keep responding in trusting us with their floral arrangements. “We hope we can get their votes next year, too!”

A straightforward approach and no-nonsense manner of addressing customer needs brought voters in the 2015 Best of the Boro Awards contest to choose American Roofing as the “Best Roofing Company” for several years in a row, said corporate manager Kristina Burford. Taking extra steps to make customers happy helps, too, she said. “We help customers with the insurance process. We’re straightforward and tell you like it is. We honor warranties, and when people call us with issues, we take care of it,” Burford said Statesboro customers voted for the company because of its reputation for honesty and quality and strong ties with the community through employees, contractors and customers. Family atmosphere, strong academics and “Gator pride” are reasons why Statesboro voters chose Bulloch Academy once again as “Best Private School” in the 2015 Best of the Boro Awards contest, according to headmaster Leisa Houghton. Bulloch Academy focuses on preparing students for college, providing an academic program that helps bring them to success, and “has a cohesive family atmosphere,” she said. The Pre K – 12 school has a great support system from students and their families as well as faculty and staff. The pride encompasses the “whole school, not just individuals,” she said. “We look at producing well-rounded students from an academic, social and, if, they choose, an athletic point of view,” Houghton said. “I think looking at the whole student is one of the reasons why parents choose to send their children to us.” Will they win the Best of the Boro award next year? That’s the goal, “as the school as a whole will keep a positive attitude, students keep on learning, parents remain very supportive, and we keep on looking for ways to continue improving,” she said.
