Crackdown on short-term holiday rentals coming By Jonathon Howard
THE CRACKDOWN on unruly short-term holiday rentals across the Tweed Shire is coming in the form of a new mandatory code of conduct from early December, which includes a twostrike provision via NSW Fair Trading. Minister for Better Regulation and Innovation Kevin Anderson joined Member for Tweed Geoff Provest to announce the new code on Tuesday, October 27. Minister Anderson said the code includes clear guidance and obligations for hosts and guests “centred on minimum standards of good behaviour”. The launch of the short-term rental accommodation code will impact both hosts, guests, letting agents and online booking platforms such as Airbnb being subject to strict new laws with a mandatory code of conduct for the industry. Also included are formal avenues for complaints and dispute resolution, and the ability for NSW Fair Trading to ban problematic hosts or anti-social guests from booking short-term rentals for five years. “The popularity of short-term rentals has exploded in recent years and is now a $30 billion
