The Nationals are betraying locals with TAFE sell-off
Justine Elliot MP
Loca MP Justine Elliot was pleased to host Local a visit by Shadow Minister for Vocational Education Sharon Bird recently.
Murwillumbah because having a TAFE means that many local students can access the education and skills they need.
The Shadow Minister was in Murwillumbah to meet with members of the community who have been deeply disturbed by recent confirmation from a leaked Cabinet document that Murwillumbah TAFE will be sold off by the Liberal-Nationals Government.
“I condemn the North Coast Nationals for their disgraceful plan to close the Murwillumbah TAFE. It shows yet again that in regional and rural areas the Nationals just cannot be trusted” Justine said.
Sharon Bird said that with youth unemployment at roughly 15 per cent in Richmond and the Tweed it was imperative that Governments invested in TAFEs rather than shutting them down. Justine Elliot said that TAFE plays such an important role in regional centres like
“Labor is backing TAFE and training because we believe every Australian – young or old, from the city or the bush – has an equal right to share in the jobs and opportunities of the future.”
