Mya began her career while attending university and working for a local advertising agency in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1998, she graduated from Georgia State University with a business degree in international marketing and a minor in music industry management. She worked with several international dot com companies following graduation, but her passion for music landed her a job with Black Entertainment Television (BET) in London, England, where she became the international marketing and public relations manager.

There she gained exceptional experience in entertainment, production, event planning, marketing and PR throughout global markets such as France, Germany, the Netherlands, the Middle East, and Africa. Shaped by life abroad, Mya has always recognized the urgency for social change around the world, especially in Africa. Conceived and executed by Mya in 2004, the three-day pan African music festival set off on historic GorÊe Island in Dakar, Senegal. Under Mya's leadership as founder and executive co-director, she developed a much-needed AIDS awareness campaign with UNAIDS and with the Ministry of Youth in Senegal, as well as obtained sponsorship support and strategic partnerships with a monetary value of more than 1 million USD. As founder of Sting Communications, Mya aspires to empower organizations and individuals in strengthening the overall value of their product, service, and image by offering result-oriented methodical marketing and communications services—without sacrificing innovation and creativity.
