Jibba Jabba Radio is a collaborative project by the Cities of Salisbury, Tea Tree Gully and Playford. The program began in January 2010 with the first round of young people, three from each Council area driving a youth lead radio show. A second group of young people have now completed their radio training and had their first show air on Friday 20 August 2010, continuing each week there after profiling youth activities, music, interviews, hot topics and debates.

What’s On! The Remedy City of Playford- Northern Sound System This October School Holidays we will be running a project called the Remedy where young people can be involved in creating a film clip.This project focuses on young people engaging in a creative experience. Young people from different backgrounds will explore dialogues and activities that build resilience and strength. Traditional and contemporary expression including music, film making and dance lead by professional artists will be used to promote peaceful coexistence. The young people who work on this project will create a DVD which is a means by which their stories can be told. As a family, create a fabulous miniature garden, using a variety of techniques and materials to build your own dream backyard – eg: clay, collage, paint. Youth School Industry Awards The Youth and School Industry Awards are in their third successful year and celebrate the achievements of individuals and organisations that work with and support young people in the northeast region of Adelaide. The Awards recognise the important role that young people play in the community and the development of positive links in learning and earning. There are ten categories in this year’s awards and nominations are now open. If you know a young person, group or organisation in Tea Tree Gully that has made a positive contribution to the community that deserves recognition, please consider nominating them. Ages: : • •

Well, lucky for you, we’re here to let you know all about the activities available in the North, created especially for young people. From music-lovers, artists, gamers, dancers and everything in-between, there’s something that everyone can really get stuck into. Best of all, most of the events listed in this section are free or low cost, so there’s really no excuse to not come and check it out. Go on, give it a go! We asked and you answered, so now we are looking for expressions of interest for a few programs that are being considered at the moment. What’s On! Holiday Hub The Hub is a place where young people can come and hang out. A beading workshop is available during this session, for those not wanting to take part in that recreation activities such as Wii, pool table, table tennis, pictionary and uno are all available. Time with Pete and Tash, snacks and information on various topics are all available here. More about the workshop - Creative Beading! Make your own jewellery creation with Indian foil beads and artistic wire! Learn how to use the coiling gizmo to make your own multi strand necklace. Bring your friends and try out an activity that you haven’t experienced before! Skate the day away to some good music, or get involved in some U3A activities includes ukaledes, bell ringing, bridge, scavenger hunt and more. Try out your skills on the Wii, table tennis and pool table. Finish it all off by enjoying a FREE sausage sizzle and having a go at a Lifeball game! Performance Skills Workshop Award winning Slam Performers from ‘Friendly Street Poets’ present the Performance Skills Workshop. Gawler What’s On! Gawler Community Slam! This wonderful opportunity is available to all Gawler and surrounding areas community members. Young people and their families are encouraged to attend. Open to all lyrical skateboarders, spoken word poets, rappers, songsters and hip-hoppers. Come along and perform at this local Poetry Slam event. MAYHEM Band Event MAYHEM Band Events offer young musicians the chance get exposure and to gain experience playing to a live audience. It offers local youth the opportunity to have fun and enjoy a night out in a safe environment as a drug and alcohol free event. Gawler What’s On! The HUB The Hub is a place where young people can come and hang out after school. There will be recreation activities such as Wii, pool table, table tennis, arts and crafts and heap more. The hub is free for all young people aged 12-17 years old. Youth workers from Gawler health service along with volunteers from Gawler council will facilitate the hub weekly. Transport will be provided to young people who cannot get to the Hub. Age: 12 – 17 years old. Date: The hub will be open Wednesday afternoons. Streetlink Streetlink offers free social assistance, support with independent living skills and medical services for young people in need and their children. Streetlink also offers drug and alcohol education and counselling for families and young people. Streetlink is based in the city and also provides outreach throughout the metropolitan area. Useful Services SASSY : Substance Abuse Support Service for Youth

is run by the Salvation Army Ingle Farm and funded by the Illicit Drug Diversion Initiative. SASSY provides support, information and referral to young people and their families around drug and alcohol issues. SASSY is based upon principles of harm minimisation. SASSY works with young people 10-18 years old, paretically young people who have offended or are at risk of offending and live anywhere in the northern suburbs. SASSY is an outreach service so can meet young people in their homes or public places. SASSY is flexible, confidential and free.
