Master Cielo Cosatal Virginia offers a rich blend of traditional martial arts training. Master Cielo focuses on the Mind, Body and Spirit making King Tiger an ideal training facility for the entire family.
Master Geoffrey Cielo, 5th degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and 7th Degree Black Belt is Hapkido, is the head of King Tiger Martial Arts in Virginia Beach. Cielo trained in martial arts since 1974, is a certified instructor and former United States Naval Officer. Like many social or cultural movements, martial arts has experienced peaks and valleys. At the moment, martial arts is on an upswing, which is most likely attributed to the popularity of mixed martial arts (MMA). The martial arts; however, seem to have less extreme highs and lows. The ‘50s and ‘60s realized a jiu jitsu and karate craze influenced by cinema followed by a short decline. In the ‘70s judo and kung fu was on the rise in popularity again fueled by media. Since the 1990s MMA and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu seem to have kept the interest of martial arts in the public eye. Cielo is a traditionalist when it comes to martial arts training. Asked his thoughts on MMA and the traditional martial arts training Cielo replies, “MMA tends to attract the adult market interested in the sporting element,” but has not affected traditional schools in a negative way. Cielo does offer MMA training for select students but his focus is on traditional practices of martial arts that explore the connection between the “mind, body and spirit.” The MMA craze does drive traffic to the schools but is not the same type or value of training.
King Tiger Martial Arts, according to Cielo, offers a structured program for children. It begins between ages 3 to 5 with the Little Ninjas— this program develops motor skills by learning proper positioning and works on positive development with rewards by accomplishment. The next part of the childrens’ program is Kicking Kids for ages 5 to 10 years old. Character development is a primary goal. Students learn refined techniques and work in a tiered program. Final steps for children are found in the Teen Machines program. Here, students 11 to 17 are highly motivated and work in groups where higher level belt-ranking work with lower belts. The system teaches team work and leadership development; an important lesson moving into adulthood.
Children develop motor skills, character development and leadership skills.

Martial Arts training can begin at any age, but evidence shows the children that study martial arts at a young age tend to be more disciplined and confident. The important thing is chosing the proper school. Traditional martial arts training should not be confused with sporting. The latter may have a positive impact but the traditional schools have a proven method. Cielo has a broad background in martial arts and his experience in practice and philosophy are well documented. His influence comes from historic figures such as Ip Man, Hee Il Cho, Bruce Lee, SiFu Duncan Leung, SiFu Larry Soccoia, Grandmaster Ji Han Jae, and Grandmaster Park. Other influences include: “Martial Artists - Jackie Chan - Book - “I am Jackie Chan” - excellent example of rising to the top and giving back to the community. Jet Li and Sammo Hung - excellent martial artists. Jet Li - in Fearless - what he concludes martial arts should do - unite people. Books/Authors - Tao Teh Ching-Lao Tzu, The Warrior Athlete-Dan Millman, Bible, The Winner’s Edge-Dennis Waitley, How to Win Friends and Influence People-Dale Carnegie, The Book of Five Rings-Miyamoto Musashi, I’m sure there are others I can’t remember off hand. People - Swami Sachidananda, Mother Teresa, Dahlia Lama, Ronald Reagan, John F. Kennedy, Abraham Lincoln, I’m sure I could keep coming up with more. My parents.” ~Master Cielo
King Tiger Martial Arts offers traditional training for adults and kids. Cielo’s well rounded background in martial arts and beyond brings a unique blend of guided teach ability. Cielo says, “My full time job is being a dad and providing an enriching experience to my students at King Tiger Martial Arts,” a family owned and operated school since 1993 and for many good years to come.

Who Was Edgar Cayce?
Edgar Cayce (pronounced Kay-Cee, 1877-1945) has been called the “sleeping prophet,” the “father of holistic medicine,” and the most documented psychic of the 20th century. For more than 40 years of his adult life, Cayce gave psychic “readings” to thousands of seekers while in an unconscious state, diagnosing illnesses and revealing lives lived in the past and prophecies yet to come. But who, exactly, was Edgar Cayce? Cayce was born on a farm in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, in 1877, and his psychic abilities began to appear as early as his childhood. He was able to see and talk to his late grandfather’s spirit, and often played with “imaginary friends” whom he said were spirits on the other side. He also displayed an uncanny ability to memorize the pages of a book simply by sleeping on it. These gifts labeled the young Cayce as strange, but all Cayce really wanted was to help others, especially children. Later in life, Cayce would find that he had the ability to put himself into a sleep-like state by lying down on a couch, closing his eyes, and folding his
hands over his stomach. In this state of relaxation and meditation, he was able to place his mind in contact with all time and space — the universal consciousness, also known as the super-conscious mind. From there, he could respond to questions as broad as, “What are the secrets of the universe?” and “What is my purpose in life?” to as specific as, “What can I do to help my arthritis?” and “How were the pyramids of Egypt built? His responses to these questions came to be called “readings,” and their insights offer practical help and advice to individuals even today. Many people are surprised to learn that Edgar Cayce was a devoted churchgoer and Sunday school teacher. At a young age, Cayce vowed to read the Bible for every year of his life, and at the time of his death in 1945, he had accomplished this task. Perhaps the readings said it best, when asked how to become psychic, Cayce’s advice was to become more spiritual. Although Cayce died more than 60 years ago, the timeliness of the material in the readings — with subjects like discovering your mission in life, developing your intuition, exploring ancient mysteries, and taking responsibility for your health — is evidenced by the hundreds of books that have been written on the various aspects of this work as well as the dozen or so titles focusing on Cayce’s life itself. Together, these books contain information so valuable that even Edgar Cayce himself might have hesitated to predict their impact on the contemporary world. In 1945, the year of his passing, who could have known that terms such as “meditation,” “Akashic records,” “spiritual growth,” “auras,” “soul mates,” and “holistic health” would become household words to millions? The majority of Edgar Cayce’s readings deal with holistic health and the treatment of illness. As it was at the time Cayce was giving readings, still today, individuals from all walks of life and belief receive physical relief from illnesses or ailments through information given in the readings — some readings were given as far back as 100 years ago! Yet, although best known for this material, the sleeping Cayce did not seem to be limited to concerns about the physical body. In fact, in their entirety, the readings discuss an astonishing 10,000 different topics. This vast array of subject matter can be narrowed down into a smaller group of topics that, when compiled together, deal with the following five categories: (1) Health-Related Information; (2) Philosophy and Reincarnation; (3) Dreams and Dream Interpretation; (4) ESP and Psychic Phenomena; and (5) Spiritual Growth, Meditation, and Prayer. When Virginia Beach native, Thomas Parker, created APOCALYPTO tequila the result was a brand poised to celebrate awareness and rebirth. “I just love the natural beauty of this area and wanted to protect it and keep that spirit alive here -everywhere really,” explains Parker. So you may wonder how this lead to the birth of Virginia Beach’s first tequila company? “I’m an artist at heart,” explains Parker, “And frankly, I was disappointed with the majority of tequilas that were available.” Parker decided a marriage of his artistic vision and an award winning sipping spirit was necessary. This became APOCALYPTO tequila and was soon one of the fastest growing new tequilas for 2013. “My main goals are to use this momentum to fund sustainability projects here and abroad and to use technology to solve society’s current socio-economic problems,” exclaims Parker, “The visually stunning packaging surely turns heads and the intention of APOCALYPTO’s half-man/half-jaguar packaging is to reconnect people to a more optimal form of the spirit. I crafted the bottle to represent man’s spirituality and intellect perfectly balanced with the jaguar’s raw instinctual determination and strength – a kind of self-reflection.” The spirit inside is 100% Blue Webber agave handcrafted the old fashioned way. It is defined by a big agave aroma with sweetness that is naturally abundant with floral and fruity notes. The flavors are rounded with spice, cinnamon, cardamom, green apple candy, caramel and ripe plum. “APOCALYPTO tequila has lots of natural spirit and is sure to grow the tequila category,” says Parker. “And we are winning
people over one sip at a time.” Parker, along with his business partners Kim Brandi and Rachel Harris decided more was needed to continue to make a “visual impact.” But with one look at this lineup, “visual impact” seems an insufficient term to describe these eye-catching bottles. With the addition of DEADHEAD rum, which features shrunkenheads-as-bottles, complete with eyes and mouth sewn shut, and FLASHBANG SPIRITS, which comes in a 50 ml. replica of the U.S. Army’s M84 distractional device, these packages are downright explosive. We’re a highly creative company,” says Brandi. “We produce premium spirits and have a lot of fun doing it.” DEADHEAD is inspired by blood revenge rituals practiced by the Peruvian Jivaro tribe and its unique packaging pays homage to the warrior spirit. “The Jivaroan people were the only natives to survive the Conquistadors,” says Brandi. “As an entrepreneur, I take that strength and spirit as a woman in a predominantly male industry. As a brand, we’re taking that spirit to rethink the rum category. “The bottle alone may draw consumers in for the first time,” says Brandi, “but it’s the spirit inside that keeps them coming back for more.” Produced on the Caribbean coast, DEADHEAD rum is made from fresh sugarcane and molasses, small-batch-distilled with melted glacial water. The rum is then aged for six years in a variety of former Scotch, Sherry, Cognac, and Bordeaux barrels and hand-blended, resulting in a complex, nuanced spirit that’s bursting with tropicality. “The bottle may be edgy,” says Brandi, “but the rum is premium.”

If you find it refreshing when a young artist is passionate, not only about their art but the message the imagery conveys, then d’ART associate gallery artist Richard Stokes will quench that thirst. Using colored pencils, acrylics and spray paints, he exposes an urban canvas that draws from universal symbolism to create evocative works of art. The artwork is colorful, methodical and introspective. Stokes describes his Imagery as “A history lessons in code. Which develop a precise indefinite conclusion. It’s an infusion of color in ones mind. Simple in presentation, delicate in theory, with a spiritual sense of detail.” Inspired by the colorful murals that lined the streets of Philadelphia, he began painting at age six. “I’ve always been fascinated by art,” says Stokes as he looks thoughtfully back at his past, “As I got a little older instead, of doing my classwork I would draw on it.” Through his childhood fascination and desire to create something meaningful; Stokes, went from drawing on his classwork, to drawing for his classwork. After spending two years at TCC Visual Arts Center and Norfolk State University, he met his next source of inspiration and mentor; tattoo artist Abrahaman Muhammad, whose guidance helped him fine-tune his designs and pursues a life of living through love and art.
Mother Nurture (sketch and finished) Message; “The Importance of motherhood” People seem to think what’s important are the people on TV, but 1 thing that is truly important is motherhood and the roots you instill within your child, blood/or not .
With encouragement from friends, family, and general beings, Stokes began sharing his trance-inducing art with the public. He sold his first piece, Green Roots to Tina Clancey at Two and a Half Women Gallery. Stokes is humbled by his new stature and muses “I’ve only considered myself as an artist for a year now. I told myself whenever I sold my first piece I would take that official title.” Richard speaks passionately about each artwork. “My inspiration comes from history, culture, and everyday trials in life. I use these three elements to create the message and not just a cool looking piece.” Aztec history, Egyptian symbols, and Indian lure also play into Richard’s artistic vision, teaching knowledge and love. At the advice of fellow artists, he approached the d’ART Center to try and showcase his artwork. Impressed by what she saw, d’ART resident artist Deborah Smalls encouraged Richard to jury for wall space in the d’ART Center’s Associate Artist Gallery.

Buddha Whether he is displaying at d’ART or drawing at Town Point Park people are mesmerized by his artwork. “When people watch me working, my colors draw them in,” says Stokes, “When they learn the bigger meaning of my subject matter, they are moved; you can actually see their perspective shift.” He wants to expand his creativity to the art of tattoo. “When artwork is on the skin it in transformative. You can see the love in an original tattoo,“ says Stokes. He feels tattoo provides a more personal canvas for his work and is actively looking for an tattoo apprenticeship.
