Nate Hudson started his career in Virginia Beach,VA in 1997 as a body piercer at the Virginia Beach oceanfront. As the ban on tattooing was lifted in Hampton Roads and tattoo shops began to open, Hudson made the transition into the tattoo industry. A lifelong passion for art and a new artistic outlet would spawn his obsession with tattooing. From vibrant color to smooth black and grey, Hudson enjoys the challenge of tackling any design that walks through the door. In May of 2010 Hudson opened Folk City Tattoo in Suffolk, Virginia with his friend and fellow tattooer Mike Cann. Hudson is also one of the cofounders and promoters of the Hampton Roads Tattoo Arts Festival. “I’ve seen tattooing go from obsolete to extreme in Hampton Roads and love being a part of bringing this art to the forefront of my community.”

Gabriel Cece has tattooed since 1995 and has worn several hats at different stages of his career. Cece had the pleasure of working next to some of the “most creative individuals I’ve ever known…being in Hampton Roads since spring of 2004 has been no different…a great learning experience this has been so far, and I’ll be looking forward to a long stay here, as now owning, operating, and working out of studio evolve in virginia beach, will make this place my home for a long time to come...In my time in the Tidewater region, I believe that I have become more of the tattooer that I always was, and more in touch with my own way or style of doing things…my color palate has expanded, my approach to all projects big and small has gotten smoother and more systematic…my tattoos and artwork have improved in part because of the environment I am in, the artists around me, and the open minded clientele who choose me to do their work… hopefully, the year 2011 will be the best so far, and a sign of the what is to come of my future in this industry….”

His introduction and love for the business comes from his father who was a DJ in the late ‘70’s, as well as his brother who was also a DJ in the ‘80’s, music was undeniably in his blood. Inspired by the sounds of Old school reggae like Bob Marley and Yellowman, as well as artists like KRS 1, he was destined to produce that great sound you hear today. When asked about the importance of staying in Norfolk, Virginia, he simply said his family is what’s here, and providing for his children with consistency is the foundation. He also added that the culture of Norfolk is great due to the many styles of music that develop from here is incredible, but there isn’t a set sound like the you would hear from the West Coast, East Coast and the South, it’s unique. He acknowledges the hip hop industry not the way it used to be, and is becoming filled with too many software producers, and artists simply fucking the game up. With the mainstream media and radio only playing the A-side to a record, and simply playing to the instant audience. The availability of music with the growth of technology is definitely having an affect on the business that is making it harder for the serious artists to grow. Sticking to the foundation of hard work, dedication, and creativity has put him at the top of the game. His track record is one that literally speaks volumes, and quakes with a hard hitting base structure. His notables are too many to list, and there are many more classics to come. Motivation, enthusiasm and teamwork are crucial when creating that next great record, so you better be ready to get to work if you’re in his lab. After producing hit after hit, he finally came out with his own solo album, “You Need This Music”, released in 2010, as well as working with Asher Roth in developing their EP album “Rawth”; which was a free released download album. His group D.M.P. has been wrapping up their newest untitled album which is to be released in the late fall of 2011, with their first single “Ball Game” available now. More of his upcoming work can be found through his website Rawkoncept.com. His legendary sound and talent is far from over, and you can only respect him for the humble and pride he stands for in the music business. When asked his general philosophy as a whole, he simply stated, “You only get one life, just have fun.” You have to love what you’re doing, stay focused, and get it done, words of wisdom from Nottz Raw in a conversation among many. We are lucky to have such a talent in the close surroundings of Twisted Ink, and appreciate the opportunity to have a day to day interactions with a legend.
