The BEAUTY

of New Beginnings

T

he story is told of a guy named Ordinary, who ventures from his hometown of Familiar to pursue His Big Dream, given to him by the Dream Giver. On this journey, he will battle Border Bullies and follow that dream if he must arrive at the Land of Promise. This story seems regular and uninspiring, until we are told how Ordinary regularly encounters pit-stops that require him to seek the Dream Giver’s help. The result is a succession of achievements, and the birth of new dreams. So Ordinary’s journey is a series of successes, each one leading to one new beginning after another. This story rings true for everyone, for as far as we can tell, everyone has a dream. You may not be able to describe it, you may have forgotten it, you may even no longer believe in it, but if you have ever experienced a deep and powerful longing, you can start to see it as your big dream. The serious part is in always evaluating the journey and knowing when to close a chapter, and when to begin a new one. Wedding Planner Magazine is the product of a big dream - a longing to help brides achieve an unforgettable wedding experience by easing the planning process. And for 9years, I daresay we have done a good job of it, though not without our fair share of challenges. So after several meetings with our Dream Giver, not to mention careful planning, we have decided to invest in a glorious new beginning. This would mean top-notch edgy content, exquisite presentation that is a whole new Wedding Planner Magazine. This is the part where we say the most heartfelt thank you to everyone who has travelled this journey with us, from vendors to brides to staff, to friends and family, especially those who have been with us from inception and have refused to let us go, even in spite of our imperfections.

Wedding Planner Magazine is a Bi-monthly publication by PR Impekable We are open to suggestions, questions, personal testimonies and contributions that will improve your reading pleasure.

Brides ‘N’ More Opens in Houston,Texas As Estelle Bridal

A Affiong ImeMgbechi Brides ‘N’ More

Affiong Ime Mgbechi started her bridal business with her own single piece of wedding dress, now the business is known all-over Nigeria. Known for her exceptional designs and friendly service, she has once again upped her game and gone beyond the shores of Nigeria. Like a classic Cinderella story, did it all happen in one night? Let’s find out…

...wedding plans made absolutely easy!

She started out with a Bachelor’s Degree in Linguistics, from the premier university, University of Ibadan; then took up a career in banking where she worked with ValueCard, Metropolitan Bank and Capital Bank. As soon as banks consolidated, she took this as a cue to give her business some attention. Her business was born thirteen years ago after attending an enterpreneurial service in which Pastor Sam Adeyemi of Daystar Christian Centre, encouraged members

of the church to start a business from what they had. She got home one day, after service, and decided to start renting out her wedding dress. That business is now widely known as Brides N More; the one stop shop for everything bridal! Affiong draws inspiration for the selection of her bridal collection from her various brides. Her dresses are a reflection of the preferences of brides that come her way; resulting in a collection that is always fresh, trendy and chic. This, I believe is what has kept her in the market this long.

Planning A Budget Luxury Wedding

Reception Ideas

A luxurious and lavish look on a modest décor budget can be achievedwith various options. It makes a whole difference when you choose a venue with a lot of character of its own. When the venue has its distinctive character you are able to capitalize on the existing ambience of the venue. Some possibilities are a games reserve, a museum, gallery, botanical garden or historical site. Of course, you have to keep the theme of your wedding in mind. It is important to choose a theme or motif and carry it through the event for a stylish look. Your theme starts with a pattern on your invitation; perhaps elegant scrollwork. Then, incorporate it into other elements like programs, favors, or even gobo lights for the dance floor. Another wonderful way of wowing

22

WP

EDITION

your guest while still maintaining your luxurious look and remaining within budget, is by having a cocktail reception. But, be cost-conscious by focusing on a beautiful display rather than tons and tons of food. Waiters in tuxedos, passing trays of a few kinds of stylish hors d’oeuvres, seem more high-end than chafing dishes on a buffet table. The waiters and venue staff in white gloves makes a whole lot of difference and look a long way more classy. Invest in a little lighting! It creates a huge impact. A wash of color on walls with uplights, (if it’s indoors) and accentuate a focal point this will change the feel of the room. You can consider creating a large spacious lounge as against single seats. Lounge furniture is more affordable than you might think. It seats people and your guests will feel spoiled.

Table Ideas

The table ideas is another area that is important in the general ambience of the venue. Details as little as the unique way a napkin is folded can make a huge statement. One option; is to fold the napkin to create a pocket to hold the menu. Try long rectangular tables. These come at the same price as typical round shapes but bring a more sophisticated look. Use ribbon to upgrade candleholders. Hold the ribbon in place with sticky dots. If you decide to use votive glasses on the table, try colored or etched glass votive holders, Instead of using clear ones. In place of pricey flowers for centerpieces, which are expensive consider romantic candelabras draped in crystals.

Impressive Stationery

Invitations set the mood for the wedding, so go beyond the standard white card. Invest the money to have your invitations designed professionally, you can print programs, menus and place cards using the same fonts, colors and style as your custom invites. Hand done calligraphy for addressing the envelopes is beautiful and has that special look however, thanks to the modern age you can get that printed on your computer, using a calligraphy font. Faux crystals on the place cards and menus—are eye-catching and give an expensive feel. In some cases you can vary the shapes or spell the table numbers as against writing the numbers, this creates an elegant look.

Wedding Food Tips The use of candlelight gives the room a rich, romantic look and is also highly affordable. Or use colored water in your centerpieces to coordinate with your décor; the effect is magical in candlelight. Varying the height, size or shape of centerpieces creates dimension and keeps the eye flowing throughout the room, it’s a nice effect. Make use of metallic items. Metallic items look extravagant but don’t cost any more than their counterparts,” If you really want to use flowers you can double the impact of your flower arrangements without adding a dime to your florist bill? Place your blooms in front of a mirror—the reflection will create an ultra lush look. Another idea could be to fill clear containers with sliced limes, lemons or oranges. In the center of the fruit, place a tall glass with a votive to illuminate the arrangement.

When selecting foods that will be passed around go for visually pleasing nibbles. Red gazpacho shooters with a green garnish look great lined up on a tray. Start your meal with an amuse- bouche, (a French word meaning mouth amuser) a tasty pre-dinner bite. Presenting food in eye-catching ways creates a chic impression but doesn’t have to add costs. Plan your menu around such inexpensive ethnic cuisines as Indian, Chinese and off course Nigerian. Adopt a leaf motif. For a summery look, serve appetizers on petite tropical leaves and use a leaf as a charger under the dinner plate. You can even use a long pod or a sturdy leaf as a serving tray. Guests will really enjoy the ingenuity! Omu Obilor www.omuobilor.com On Facebook www.facebook.com/ omuobilorluxuryeventplanner www.luxurybyomu.wordpress.com

MOTHERING THE BRIDE with Iretiola Doyle

COVER STORY

I

Iretiola Doyle, the popular actress, presenter, writer and producer; is about to give her

daughter out in marriage. Surprised? (You couldn’t have guessed; with her great look and physique!) Here is a real mother-of the-bride that was willing to share her experiences of mothering a bride, and we could not pass-up such golden opportunity. This hearty interview will help you understand better, the standpoint of mothers, when planning their daughter’s wedding. Be our guest!

Tell us about your daughter.

My daughter Abimbola Ngozi is 27, a graduate of Economics from the OAU in Ile-Ife. She’s beautiful, intelligent, very hardworking and entrepreneurial. She runs her own business.

COVER

STORY

How is your relationship with her like?

We have a relatively good relationship, with our own fair share of “mother-daughter drama”.

What does it feel like, planning your daughter’s wedding with her?

It’s kind of surreal planning a child’s wedding... wasn’t it just yesterday we were girls trying to figure out this thing called “life”? Today we’re burying parents and marrying off our children... I guess I’ve finally grown up! Lol! When u get past the weirdness though, it’s a thing of joy and a rite of passage and most certainly a privilege.

Have you had any major disagreement since you began planning the wedding?

Hmm...Honestly, no. But maybe that’s because there is a silent agreement that this leg of proceedings (traditional wedding) is more or less my show, so the kids are giving me free rein.

Being a mother-of-the-bride that looks almost as young as the bride herself; you are fashion savvy and still young too. How has this reflected on planning your daughter’s wedding? I’m not really sure; beyond the fact that we will most certainly have an elegant, modern event devoid of archaic practises. Lol!

Would you say that what you have planned out is your concept or your daughter’s? How much of a say does she have in all of it.

As said earlier the kids have been gracious to allow me have free rein over proceedings, what I have planned is more my concept. Derived from “how things are done” mixed with my personal notion of how I want to present my daughter (and by extension, myself and the entire family) to the public. It doesn’t get bigger than a child’s wedding... first daughter for that matter! It’s got to be done right!

Some mothers are of the opinion that their daughter’s wedding day is almost as much the mother’s, as it is the bride’s day. Do you agree and why? Lol!!! Now that I am in that position I certainly agree! (Probably wouldn’t, 14 years ago!) But there you go... it’s true what they say about not getting certain things till a certain age or stage in life. Why is it so?? Let me speak from a personal perspective... as said earlier, it is a rite of passage, not just for the bride, but also her parents especially her mother. It is an affirmation that you have raised your child right; it is a public celebration of a “job well done”.

What’s your greatest joy on this one huge occasion?

My greatest joy...? It’s in the Lord…, because He has done ALL things well, and has made EVERYTHING beautiful in time.

...wedding plans made absolutely easy!

Iretiola Doyle had always wanted Bimbo to get married in style, and that’s exactly how it happened! Her wedding ceremonies kicked off with the court wedding; which held at the Ikoyi registry on Saturday, July 12th 2014. It was an intimate affair with close friends and family members in attendance. That was followed quickly by the traditional wedding; on Saturday 19th July 2014 and we look forward to her white wedding coming soon. In the first image, the beautiful bride-tobe is dressed in a sequined tulle ball dress from Perfect Occasions, while the second is an ivory mermaid number with layered frills; from Brides N More, she is gorgeously adorned with accessories from Leries and make-up by Beautywise. The mother of the bride’s first attire is a buba made from fuchsia lace and champagne aso oke embroidered with matching fuchsia designs from Evirit Aso Oke, adorned with accessories from Beads of Arcadia. Her second outfit is a gold buba and wine aso oke with clusters of gold embroidery from Bolsy Aso Oke, and accessories from Nouva Couture. The outfits are topped-off with make-up and gele by Unveil and shoes from Mezereon.

Mrs Doubra Emein CEO, Brad E Events

Influenced by the environment, their clients’ choices and their ability to be creative; Brad E has a mission to create bespoke events, tailored to the specifications of each of their clients; and a vision to have Brad E brides and grooms enjoy a fun and creative wedding planning process. This approach gives birth to events that are rare in quality and portray individuality. Brad E Events have done it over and over again, such that their clients (especially Brad E brides) go beyond the business relationship; to become their friends! Their services include consultation, planning, creation and coordination of various classes of events; weddings, private parties, corporate functions, etc. Brad E Events has its head office in Warri and has since inception serviced clients both in Warri and Lagos. From her experience of both worlds, Mrs Doubra Emein has this to say: “The major difference between the Lagos and the Warri market is that; the Warri market is slowly beginning to appreciate the event planner. When we started, it was very hard to

convince clients on the importance of paying appropriately for a beautiful decor, let alone a well-executed event. But with the help of social media and the internet, people are beginning to see that it takes a bit more to make an event successful.” Having established a sphere of influence in the Niger Delta, Brad E Event takes a step further, by officially announcing their office base, here in Lagos! From the Lagos office they can be easily accessible to brides from various parts of the country, either for your wedding décor or planning and management. Ultimately, their intention is to build a brand that continues to be sustainable and widely known, making their services available to brides outside the shores of Nigeria. Her advice to brides is to enjoy the wedding planning process; get a planner you can trust, and let them do their job, delegate and have fun! The process of wedding planning can be overwhelming; Brad E Events guarantees that with their team of experienced vendors, they will take the burden of planning off you!

beautiful flora and fauna is like going to an aquarium without seeing the sea creatures. So don’t spend your honeymoon in your hotel or resort taking selfies and sharing post wedding jokes. Mauritius is not called the Paradise Island for nothing. Here are some of the things you can do in Mauritius: Meet the locals: Don’t take our word for it when we say the natives of Mauritius are as warm and welcoming as the island, get out there and see for yourselves. You don’t need your GPS to locate a particular place, if you have the locals around you. You will be amazed at the level of generosity when a coconut seller will refuse to collect money just because you smiled and said a heartfelt thank you. In Mauritius, there are huge smiles everywhere you go. Quad biking: For those, who do not know what a quad bike is, you are in luck because you will find out and even ride one in Mauritius. Quad bike is a four-wheel vehicle that travels well on sandy and rough roads and is quite easy to learn. It is a fun adrenaline-pumping way to tour the lush country-side. Chamarel Waterfall: Chamarel is the highest

waterfall in Mauritius at 100 metres. This is the perfect spot to take that couple selfie and make your friends jealous. Climb the stairs to the viewing platform at the top and take a look at the breathtaking waterfall as it hits the pool 100 meters below. You can also combine this trip with a visit to the “seven coloured Earth” a world wonder made up of sand dunes of different distinct colours including browns, reds and purples created as a result of cooled volcanic rocks. The street food: Mauritius street food is said to be amongst the best in the world. Discover a unique mix of Creole, African, Indian and Chinese influence offered with a burst of spices, flavours, colours that forms an astonishing cuisine. Also try the sugar cane. Mauritius has a history of sugar cane production dating back 400 years. Take a tour of the sugarcane museum/factory to learn a little bit of sugar processing and share a sugar cane treat with your spouse. Swim with the dolphins: Enjoy the time of your lives as you swim with the friendly dolphins in the crystal clear water. Explore

the spectacular lives of these adorable mammals in their aquatic habitat. Come face to face with the dolphins and appreciate the strikingly beautiful scenery, unspoiled landscapes and wonderful animals. Don’t forget to take pictures. Relationships

Give Me

PATIENCE E

Everyone I know has gotten married. Including my helps. Mary, my former help called me two months ago and tried to disguise the glee in her voice as she asked how I was doing and “how is work Ma..?” Then she told me she was getting married. I wished her well and told her to keep me posted. Last week, Yemisi, my current help sidled up to me and the first thing I noticed was the army of pimples on her face. She shyly shut me up in the middle of my sermon about bad face washing habits to tell me that the pimples were there because she was four months pregnant. That shut me up. My inner jaw dropped to the floor even though I managed to keep a straight face. I asked her if the man responsible had gone to see her parents and she said yes, in fact that was what she wanted to talk to me about. Would I like to buy her aso ebi? She’s getting married in September. I had a married help once, she left after she got pregnant. She was delivered of twins. Two beautiful girls. And I’m still here, knocking Gods door down day and night. At this point I am beyond certain that there are spiritual connotations. Things like the ones I have lived through with men and other events don’t just decide to arrange themselves and happen to one person; me without extra help. And the bible does say we wrestle with principalities. I can’t say I understand why any principality would choose tiny Enitan to wrestle with, but there it is. My only weapon is Grace, and my war General is The Almighty. I know He is more than enough and up to the task, but I also know I cannot rush Him and that for me, is the hard part. These days I remember to ask him for patience. Patience; to wait for him to perfect and deliver my gift of a Friend, Man and Husband. I haven’t heard from the Gentleman in Ghana. He just faded into the mist,

...wedding plans made absolutely easy!

I sent a number of messages to him, but he didn’t respond to any of them. I know I promised to tell you how it turned out the way it has, but really, I’d rather just skip to this part of the story. I haven’t heard from him. I’ll say though, that this recent disappearing act accomplished one thing; if I had been suspecting before now that some cranky supernatural force has a quarrel with me, now I know it for certain. Men don’t blow very hot then just turn cold on a woman for no apparent reason and without prompting. The Ghana incident just amplified the pattern and made me see the picture for what it is; ugly, sinister, SABOTAGE. When the same thing has happened to the same person at different times over several years, it becomes apparent that there’s more than coincidence going on. Coincidence is when it happens twice. Sabotage is when it happens FIVE times! So, now I’m awake to the matter. I’m deploying the hosts of heaven. My Father is the most powerful War General the universe has ever known. I am, by the power He allows me, speaking freedom, redemption, and release from captivity into my life. I am declaring that the man whose complement I was created to be, will stop being complacent and will do anything the Holy Spirit commands him to do, lift every mountain and shatter every wall that stands in his way of finding me; for he is not complete until he has made me his wife. That lethargic state he has been in will turn to a consuming need to find me. Nothing and no one will quench his thirst for me until he drinks from my cistern. Men are choosing women everyday to marry. Yemisi is barely 24, and she’s getting married in a few months. Dare, my youngest brother has announced to us that he’s getting married in December. I will get married too. Because I have it on authority that my Father opens His hands and satisfies the desires of every living thing. I desire to get married, and so, I am comforted in the knowledge that my Father will satisfy my desire. I just need more patience. I am in fact so confident in Faith that these days I don’t ask God to help me find a man, I ask him to help a man find me. When you miss something, it is your duty to search till you find it. My future husband is missing a rib. It is his duty to find ME. I just need more patience. I am Enitan Karohunwi, I’m NYM. Please send comments to enitannym@gmail.com Anyday Now...
