Distinctive feature

Discover the beauty of growing the Flor de Alegría Mandevillas. The key characteristics of this new series make production easier by incorporating: • • • • •

Heavy branching to increase the flower count Strong roots for disease resistance Short internodes to enable the production of compact floriferous plants, which have the vigour to grow taller when replanted Cold tolerance to lengthen the flowering period A non-tangle habit

A primary benefit of each Flor de Alegría variety is their adaptability to production in small and large pots. They can be grown and flowered in small pots because of their heavy branching and non-tangling characteristics, but can also be grown in larger pots due to their inbred vigour to grow taller.

Poinsettia

1

Think strong, think sell through, think Prestige Prestige Red is a strong robust variety that has established an enviable position as a preferred option for Australian Poinsettia growers. It is suited to high density production in small and large pot sizes. Prestige Red is less prone to late season stretch, requiring a lower use of PGR’s. Growers and retailers appreciate the strong ‘V’ shaped architecture that reduces shrinkage from stem breakage. For the grower it means faster and easier sleeving – and for the retailer there is less breakage when unloading cartons.

Ice Punch 7.5-8 weeks This variety is a ‘party in a pot’! Add a little pizzazz with glitter or a bow and you’ll have a distinctive gift for Mother’s Day or Christmas in July. Leaf and bract pattern makes this series ideal for space efficient production (high density), allowing ~10% more production per square metre. Can be grown cool for cost savings and energy efficiency.

Polar Bear

3

Polar Bear is the whitest Poinsettia available while still featuring dark green leaves. It has a compact growth habit making it easy to grow in 14cm pots.

Classic Pink 8-8.5 weeks The bract position is horizontal, not cascading like most Poinsettias. Post production life is outstanding; especially resistant to bract burn and cyathia drop.

Primero Glitter 8.5 weeks Primero Glitter is one of the easiest Poinsettia to produce regardless of conditions and is heat tolerant for use in hot climates.

The climatic tolerances of a variety must therefore be measured not just according to temperature extremes, but also by seasonal rainfall patterns. The map below shows four major climatic zones for the Australian continent. Zones 2 and 4 have wet summers while zones 1 and 3 have wet winters. To assist in variety selection please review the Variety Specification Sheet on page 30, which shows the recommended climate zones for each variety.

Dianella hybrid

Streetscape®

The tough solution When the job requires a good looking tough Dianella that tolerates all conditions from dry heat to high humidity then the first variety on the planting list needs to be Streetscape – a tougher Australian grass. Developed by Protected Plant Promotions and Floraquest in Sydney, Australia, Streetscape is the result of crossing a Cape York Dianella species with Dianella caerulea. The geographical tolerances of the parent species are inbuilt in Streetscape enabling it to cope with a wider range of temperature and humidity than seen in existing Dianellas.

The fine leaves of Crackerjack sway gracefully in the wind and create the feeling of a soft flimsy element, contrasting perfectly with hard paved surfaces.

Cordyline banksii Electric Star™

New

Electric Pink has caused shock waves! Dramatic and vibrant ….no other Cordyline variety has caused such a stir in the market place. The high demand for this variety is the result of residential and commercial gardeners seeking, perennial plants that are colourful. But Electric Pink has proved to be an outstanding variety not just for its colour but also for its performance in harsh conditions. Once established this variety is extremely heat tolerant withstanding temperatures in excess of 40°C. By generating multiple shoots Electric Pink quickly forms a clump of brightly coloured hot pink and purple striped foliage. The leaves are finely textured when young, which broaden as the plant matures. Electric Pink virtually glows - an amazing eye catching variety for outdoor gardens or as a feature in large patio pots. Electric Pink is distributed throughout Australia via licensed wholesale growers. 1. A highlight in patio containers. 2. In a landscape. 3. Production in 25cm pots.

The ‘zap’ started with Electric Pink now get ready for Electric Star! Following in the ‘Electric’ style, Electric Star is a compact, clump forming Cordyline that doesn’t develop a bare single stemmed trunk. Instead it develops side shoots that together with its slightly arching leaves form a dense foliage plant. Residential and commercial gardeners will love Electric Star’s bright green and chocolate striped leaves. It will be easy to incorporate into large commercial plantings because of its predominant green colour. Up close, its chocolate stripes are easily recognized and will provide the visual appeal desired around patios, terraces and building entrances. Electric Star will become an important part of modern outdoor living areas.
