WELCOME TO THE 24th SEASON AT TWO RIVER THEATER!

Suzan-Lori Parks and John Dias at the final dress rehearsal of Topdog/Underdog. Photo by T. Charles Erickson.

One of the things that is very meaningful to all of us at Two River Theater—including our audiences— is the relationship we have to a family of artists. We talk to extraordinary, passionate writers, composers, directors, actors and designers each year, who tell us what work they urgently want to share with Red Bank audiences. Out of their souls and hearts and minds, we choose a season of great American theater. From time-honored classics to the classics of tomorrow, from theatrical adventures for young audiences to adventurous world premieres, we are committed to doing work that excites the passions of artists and audiences alike.

We launch the season with Lorraine Hansberry’s earth-shattering answer to Langston Hughes’s most profound question: ‘What happens to a dream deferred?’ Each play that follows— whether classic or brand new, comedy or tragedy—in some way addresses a similar existential pursuit. The playwrights are all searching out a world that’s new and better, and characters who feel poised on a turning point in time, caught between the trappings of the past and the desire to forge a new path into the future. Each play in its own way is pointing us forward, whether through laughter or tears or just the telling of a really great story. We invite you to join us on this adventure. And, we thank you for being part of our family.

John Dias Artistic Director 3

“A Little Shakespeare is totally unique. It takes something that so many kids assume they will never understand, the language of Shakespeare, and makes it into something amazing, relatable, and definitely understandable.” - A Little Shakespeare actor Celebrating its 5th season as one of Two River’s most popular programs, A Little Shakespeare engages young artists and audiences alike with the work of the Bard. Two sets of identical twins, separated at birth + several cases of mistaken identity = hijinks ensue in Shakespeare’s great comedy!
