If you recall, we started 2 years ago with just solo acoustic entertainers. The consensus is that you all like the bigger band/dance music, bands cost more. But still super affordable and great NEW bands. The April Rooks Duo is a new find that will keep the dance floor packed with amazing vocals on the classic songs you all know! Residents Only! JAN. 20TH: PARTY WITH BUTCH & THE BUCKHEADS! 7PM-10PM, BALLROOM, $15 What a treat! For over 30 years, Butch & the Buckheads have been one of the premier rock/dance/pop bands in the South. We had to cancel our big outdoor show last year but Butch agreed to come back and do an indoor show! This band is all about the party, playing hits from the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and beyond. Do not miss this show! Residents Only! FEB. 2ND: FIRST FRIDAY WITH THE BIG CHILL! 7PM-10PM, BALLROOM, $7 First Fridays just got even more hip! You all remember The Big Chill, right? They were the fabulous band that opened up our huge outdoor Eagles concert last year. The band loved it so much they agreed to come back and do their own show in our ballroom. From the Community Manager
From the desk of Gary Hulion We have all I hope, celebrated a safe and prosperous Holiday season. As we begin our new year, I personally want to thank each of you for a successful 2017. We could not have accomplished all that we did without the help of each of you. Many projects were completed in 2017 and several more are planned for 2018. By now each of you should have received your coupon book and notice of the approved 2018 budget. I encourage you who have not signed up for auto draft to do so. It will make your life a little less stressful knowing your quarterly dues are taken care of in advance. The Annual meeting will be held on the 15th of January 2018 at the Gainesville Civic Center on Greene Street. There will be three vacant Board of Directors positions elected at this meeting. Please plan to attend and be a part of the election process. Your vote does count; so please attend or assign a proxy for your vote to be counted. The Board through the hard work of the rules and regulations work group have amended and adopted a more comprehensive and revised version of the rules and regulations for Cresswind. A copy will be provided to each household. Things to remember: the speed limit is 25 throughout the
community. Use of the sidewalks is encouraged when walking or exercising. Observe all traffic signs and maintain your proper traveling lane when driving. KEEP Right at all roundabouts, never cut across left in any roundabout. Please remember to pick up after your pet and do not allow pets to use your neighbor’s yard. Most of all stay safe. Report any suspicious activity. More information is the key to Gary Hulion keeping your neighborhood safe. As always my door is open to your thoughts and suggestions. Please free to set up an appointment if you feel there are things happening that are not right, or better still send me an email, as I am not always in my office. Let’s talk about it and see if we can come up with a solution. And lastly become more involved in the solution to what may be going on rather that the C.R.M. (Cresswind Rumor Mill). Join a club, become a member of one of the many committees, that is how you do your part.

Health and Fitness Committee By: Tom Low The fitness center has been rearranged to accommodate some new equipment while making more floor space for non-equipment exercising. Two new rowing machines are on order and will be placed before the end of the year to add to our cardio section. If you haven’t also noticed, the floor has been replaced with a nice looking rubber floor that should last a long, long time. The following equipment has been added to the center this year: Stretching Table- Donated by the Cresswind LL Community Fund Safety Squat bar- Donated by an anonymous resident Bosu Ball- Donated by an anonymous resident Balance Board- Donated by the Health and Fitness Committee Dumbbell Power Blocks- Donated by an anonymous resident 2 Rowing machines and additional dumbbells- Donated by an anonymous resident Captains Chair- Donated by Cresswind Sports and Games Club The committee worked with Cresswind Lifestyle in the planning and managing the Health Fair in August. We had over 30 medical groups and vendors of health and fitness products participate. This included several tests and medical screenings like hearing tests, skin cancer screening, strength test. All the scheduled group
classes had short demos so people could see if they wanted to participate. Healthy cooking was demoed in the kitchen and a healthy food truck came out. The Life South Blood Mobile was overwhelmed with donations all day and they had a speaker discuss the importance of blood. We recently received this from a resident about the Health Fair: I attended the Cresswind Health Fair this past summer. One of the booths at the fair offered a carotid artery ultrasound which I agreed to, expecting a favorable result. I was surprised when the technician informed me that a blockage was detected in the image and I should seek further consultation with a vascular surgeon. A CAT scan and a couple of doctor visits later, I found myself undergoing surgery to remove an 80-90% blockage of my right side carotid artery. I want to thank Mark and all the Cresswind staff for organizing the Health Fair because at the very least you were responsible for improving my quality of life and quite possibly saving my life. Thank you again for helping me be a healthier member of this amazing Cresswind community This about says it all, we plan to hold another Health Fair on August 18th 2018.

Welcome Committee
Landscape Committee
By Harriet Gershkowitz
By Meg Bohn
The Welcome Committee had a very busy year. By the end of December, we will have welcomed more than 215 new Cresswind Residents including many who have bought resales.
Spring is just around the corner and with the New Year, the Landscape Committee is announcing the “retirement” of its Secretary, Sheran Connolly and a valued committee member, Doris Neely. A very big “Thank You” to Sheran and Doris for all the hours and dedicated service to our community.
We continue to provide information through visits to new residents, orientations that provide information from MTScapes, First Services, our HOA, Cresswind Committees and resources for the Gainesville/Hall County area.
Hello! Hello! Education Committee
Spring will bring many new ideas for our neighborhood landscapes. Please keep in mind that whatever you plant or replace in your landscape becomes your responsibility to maintain, not the association’s or MTScapes’ responsibility. If you have purchased a resale home, the only landscaping maintained by the HOA is in the front of the residence. So, think before you plant and submit your plans as early as possible. Please read the application completely and submit all the necessary information or the application process will take longer. Happy Planting!
By: Doug Geganto
2017 was a busy year for the Education Committee. During the past year, we hosted 30 different educational programs and our first volunteer fair; 980 residents attended our programs. Topics for our programs covered health care, personal safety, community affairs, world affairs, computer and smart phone assistance and personal development. Many of our programs were developed from suggestions submitted by residents. The committee is currently planning their 2018 calendar. Some of the early topics we are scheduling are Cryptocurrencies, Cyber Security, World Affairs, Gainesville City Government townhall meeting, Driver Safety and a special presentation in January by the Gainesville History Center. Be sure to read the Daily Update for notices about our upcoming programs. If you have an idea for a program, please contact a member of the Education Committee. The 2017/2018 Education Committee members are: Doug Geganto, Chairman, Chuck Wharton, Vice Chairman, Don Burt, Secretary, Carol Hanlon, Shirley Zona, Mary Selbitschka, George Maule, and Pam Papciak.
Transition Committee By: Bob Rivers
A Transition to Turnovers Committee was formed and began meeting in November 2016. Its mission is to prepare the community for Turnover from the Developer to the Association probably in July 2019. Its present members are Bob Rivers Chair, Jim Brannan, Vice Chair, Helen O’Keefe, Secretary, Dan Gershkowitz, Sue Garcia, John Stevens, Gene Evans, and Robert Horne. The Committee has recently completed a re-design of the various rules and regulations document into one manual that is well indexed; making it easy to find specific sections and rules. Thanks to the Rules and Regulations workgroup for their hard work! The Amenities and Engineering workgroups of the committee are moving forward on a Long-Range Amenities Plan to be presented to the community in early 2018. This plan will outline recommendations concerning the use of all Cresswind amenities, now and in the future. Questions about the Committee’s work? Contact any member.

By Doug Geganto
The Library at the Club is a “lending” library. Visit the library, find a book to read, take it home to enjoy; when you have finished reading, just return it to the library cart. One of our many library volunteers will make sure that all books and audio books are returned to the shelves. When you visit the library, you may want to sit at one of the puzzle tables and put in a few pieces! If you would rather work on your puzzle at home, we have a huge selection in the cabinets across from the Arts & Crafts Room. We thank all of the residents who have donated books, audio books, DVD’s and puzzles. A reminder... before making book donations, please check the copyright dates. We will be looking for books that were printed in 2008 and later. Older books are donated to the bookstore on Gainesville Square. Please, no magazines!
As we close out 2017, the Cresswind Movie Group is pleased to report that we have shown 24 movies in 2017 to over 1800 residents. All the major Oscar winners were scheduled as soon as the movies were available. The group is pleased to report many of the movies shown in 2017 were suggested by Cresswind residents. We are currently placing several new movies on our 2018 movie queue as we get ready to prepare next year’s schedule. Movies are scheduled on the first and third Wednesday of each month in the ballroom at 7:00 pm. As we gear up for 2018, we are once again considering a weekend movie festival with movies on Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoon. We may highlight a particular actor or actress and show three of their best movies. If you have a suggestion or a favorite actor or genre, please contact dgeganto@charter.net and we will see who or what wins. Stay tuned to the Daily Update, our movie posters, and the schedule of activities on the TV in the lobby for our schedule. Finally, we are pleased to report that the dollar movie group in totally self-sustaining. Thank you for all who have attended and supported the Movies at Cresswind. So be sure to come to the movies in 2018 for a buck and free popcorn.

The Cresswind Flag Group By Doug Geganto
On every major national holiday, the Cresswind Flag Group places flags at each residence in Cresswind. In addition, we celebrate the birthday of each of the Armed Forces by flying their service flag on the community flag pole. Commemorative flags are also flown on special days. This year we flew the POW/MIA flag on September 15, 2017 to honor National POW/MIA Recognition Day and a multi-service flag on Veterans Day, November 11th. Community flags are placed at all occupied homes by the 37 members of the Cresswind flag group on the following holidays: Memorial Day (Last Monday in May), July 4th, September 11th, and Veterans Day November 11th. Thanks to the generous donations by our neighbors, I am pleased to report that we have been able to purchase enough new flags for phase 3C and to also repair many of the damaged flags. One last reminder, please insure that the flags flown at your homes are in good condition. Should a flag need to be replaced, please bring it to the clubhouse so that it can be disposed of properly.

THE WALTZ:
Meet the Ballroom Dancers Wendy O’Hanlon and Dave Binnix gave a suburb performance of the Waltz at the Holiday Music Celebration presented by Chuck Bridwell and the Cresswind Chorus. Wendy O’Hanlon and her husband Miles had taken ballroom lessons several years ago and have resumed taking lessons at Cresswind. After “We the People, The Musical”, Wendy was thrilled to be asked to choreograph and perform again for the Holiday Celebration. Wendy’s appreciation goes to Dave for being such an amazing partner and for the collaboration with Leah Long for the Holiday choral waltz performance! Dave Binnix with his wife Julie of 53 years have lived in Cresswind for four years. They have enjoyed dancing since they were teenagers but got serious two years ago. Dave Binix was thrilled when Wendy O’Hanlon asked him to join her in their presentation of The Christmas Waltz. “One of the biggest thrills of living at Cresswind was performing at the Holiday Music Celebration with Wendy. We are really blessed to have this extremely talented Chorus, technical staff and Director/Conductor Chuck Bridwell. Thanks to all for making this possible,” stated Dave.

Arts & Crafts Club 2017 Recap By: Dawn Davis
In 2017, the Arts & Crafts club offered classes in Drawing, Painting, Photography, Card Making, Pottery, Gourd Painting, Quilting, Needle works, Jewelry, & Tanglers. Some of the Make & Take classes offered throughout the year included Crochet Necklaces, Crystal Necklaces, Beaded Bracelets, Derby Hats, Pumpkin/Plant Centerpieces, Wreath making, Ukrainian Egg Painting, a Card Holder, just to name a few. Our first Expo introduced all that the Arts & Crafts Club has to offer to our community. Each subset had a booth for demonstrations + class information, tons of door prizes were won, and many refreshments (wine) was enjoyed! The Arts and Crafts Club is now proud to present the 2018 Board: President, Rich Lynt Vice President, Kathie Zeranski Secretary, Sue Joninas Treasurer, Lynn Blaylock At Large Board Members: Karen Geganto Brenda Crosby Jim Meek The new Board seeks to cultivate creativity and community, using art & crafts as the medium.
BOWLING CLUB By: Phil Vinyard
At the start of the Cresswinders Bowling League’s current season, our members elected new officers for the upcoming year. Those elected were Phil Vinyard, President; Tom Stagl, Vice President; Judy Hoberg, Secretary and Treasurer; and Dan Skeels and Jim Cook, Members-at-Large. The focus of this group is to do our utmost to make the season as enjoyable as possible for all our members and help expand the league. With the decision to move to Buford, we feel we have made a great improvement in the quality of the conditions such as lane uniformity, cleanliness, hospitality, cost, and the feeling of being welcome. We are aware that the Gainesville Bowling Center has recently installed new synthetic lanes so we may revisit bowling there for the next season but that will be a tough decision considering how great the folks at Stars and Strikes have been. A couple of teams still need a bowler to round out the team compliment of four and we will also be recruiting for new teams for the second half of the season beginning in January, 2018. If you are new to Cresswind or just want to knock off the dust from not having bowled in years, this is a good time to join our league and start having fun on Wednesday mornings. Just contact any of the officers listed above and we will get you on a team. This is a handicap league for men and women of all skill levels.
Bible Study
By: Dave Dittmeier
Since the last issue of The Waterfall, the Women’s Bible Study delved into the Book of Philippians, while the Men’s Bible Study participated in a discussion of Andy Stanley’s course of “Just Ask It”. The Club continued its monthly non-denominational gatherings with Stacey Phillips, Pastor at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church as the guest pastor in November and Tom Smiley, Senior Pastor at Lakewood Baptist Church in January. The Club also approved a new sub-group, “The Way” Bible Study which is comprised of women, men, couples and singles. “The Way” meets in six-week increments. Various Couples Bible Studies continue to abound throughout Cresswind and meet in private homes in the community. Page 22 | The Waterfall | January/February

Cornerstone On a spring day in April, 1985, Eagle Ranch welcomed its first child. The shy teen boy walked through the doors of the Faith Home, unsure of what the future held. Faith remains the cornerstone of the Eagle Ranch community, which today helps make life better for nearly 70 boys and girls, providing support their families as they work toward reunification.

Cresswind Neighborhood Theatre By: Wayne Blum
The year 2017 was a fantastic one for the Cresswind Neighborhood Theater. The spring offering was “We the People”, a patriotic-themed play filled with acting, singing and dancing. It was quite a production to say the least. The fall brought us “Witness For The Prosecution”, an Agatha Christie whodunit, that did not reveal itself until the very end. Audiences were thrilled! Looking forward to 2018, there will be a production set for May sometime. Production meetings are occurring now, the play has been selected and will be announced by the next issue of The Waterfall. This play will be directed by Bert Emma. These past and future productions are not possible without the combined efforts of actors, costume designers, set decorators, chorus, dancers, house management, and several other volunteers. If you are new to the neighborhood or have been around for some time and want to get involved with the theater, please contact Wayne Blum at theblums@charter.net. No experience is necessary ... if you do not want to try acting, there is plenty to do “behind the scenes”. We look forward to another great year for the Cresswind Neighborhood Theater.

What’s Cooking?? By: Paula King
The Cresswind Cooking Club has a busy 2018 planned for its members! We will have a Super Bowl Party on February 4th as well as Soup Nights, A Pot Luck, an Afternoon Tea, A Floozy Party, a Spring Fling, not to mention Fish Fry and Kentucky Derby Party. And that only takes us into early May. We will offer monthly Healthy Eating demonstrations/discussions and quarterly Cooking Classes, demonstrations and hands on cooking. The cost to be invited to all this fun and frolicking is only $5 a year per person. Drop a check in the Club mailbox in the rear right corner of the clubhouse lobby. Be sure to put membership in the memo line. Then you will be added to our mailing lists and all our announcements go out to Cooking Club members only and only cooking club members may attend. Most of our communication is done through email. Three weeks to a month before an event, the leader of the larger events holds a meeting inviting interested members to volunteer to help, a great way to meet people in a smaller setting plus working an event is so much fun. If you would be interested in leading an event or have ideas for events you would like to see us sponsor, please contact me or any of our Executive Board members or sub-group leaders. Come join the fun!

Genealogy Club By: Dave Dittmeier The Genealogy Club continues to assist members in the research of their family trees. Since the last issue of The Waterfall, our meeting topics have included Social Security Facts, the secret hiding in the 1840 Federal Census, plus an interactive research segment. Our research sources were enhanced by uploading previous meeting presentations and various research links to our Facebook page. In February, the Club held its annual “Taste of Genealogy” where members brought dishes of their ethnic origin. The Genealogy Club is open to all residents regardless of your level of expertise.

Ladies Golf News By: Mary Ann Amick The Ladies Golf Club has enjoyed great fall weather this year, allowing us to continue play each week on Wednesday mornings at the Chattahoochee Golf Club. Starting in January, we will be moving to Thursday mornings at 10:30am. We also enjoyed our first “Get Away Golf Trip” in October. Ten of us traveled to Sky Valley, Georgia, rented a home for two nights, and enjoyed golfing at the Sky Valley Country Club. We also enjoyed shopping in Highlands, NC, along with lots of camaraderie and endless laughs. Contact Mary Ann Amick; ladiesgolf@mail.com if you are interested in joining this club or have questions.

Cresswind Dinner Group By: Karen Silverthorn
Come join the fun and meet new neighbors! Our group has enjoyed a great fall with an Oktoberfest themed dinner and a delicious menu featuring Mid-West recipes. There are still two dinners remaining: February 3rd has a ‘Swinging 20’s theme while March 3rd will be a ‘White’ menu. The Dinner Group Committee is planning a Wrap-up event in conjunction with the final meal of the season on March 3rd. Members should stay tuned for more details of this special event! The Dinner Group meets four times per year and enjoys delicious meals while meeting new neighbors around an elegant dinner table. Dinner participants are assigned a portion of the meal to prepare and all recipes are provided. Food and beverage costs (average $40 - $65 per pair/couple) are shared equally among participants at each house. There are four couples/ pairs of people assigned to a house. At each dinner, residents are rotated so members will always meet new neighbors and get to know them as friends. Anyone can join at any time during the year. If you are interested in joining the Dinner Group, email the coordinator (Karen Silverthorn, silk3349@ charter.net) to be added to the Dinner Group email list. There are no fees for Dinner Group, but you must be a paid member of the Cooking Club. Guidelines for the Dinner Group are posted on the Cooking Club website. Every meal is an adventure!

Cresswind Kayak Club (CKC) By: John Stevens
I am happy (and proud) to announce that last year’s CKC officer ‘team’ has been re-elected for 2018, with the exception of our former Vice President, Linda Brown, who opted for a very much deserved break from ‘public life’ as a Club Officer. Landy Johnson, last year’s CKC Member-At-Large, was elected to replace Linda as our CKC Vice President while Ron Grimm, Kathy Murdock, and I were re-elected to our respective roles as CKC Treasurer, Secretary, and President for 2018. I am also delighted to welcome Carol Ann Bell to the CKC officer ‘team’ as our 2018 Member-at-Large. The mission of the CKC continues to be to promote enduring friendships and social community for ALL Cresswind residents regardless of their skill or interest in kayaking. The 2018 CKC Officers will begin planning for our upcoming kayaking season in February with this in mind, and will be using last November’s CKC Survey to help inform the kinds of paddling and non-paddling events and activities we hope all Cresswind kayakers will look forward to and enjoy. Check out the CKC website at: https:// cresswindkayak.wixsite.com/cresswindkayak for information on how to be part of the CKC fun.

Tennis
By: Sandy Barmack
It has been a busy fall for the Cresswind Tennis players. Many players had the opportunity to sharpen their skills at the tennis clinics that were held in November. Thanks to the efforts of Bill Papciak, Bill Brigard and Gordon Watts, who facilitated the clinics and offered their expertise, we now have a group of much improved tennis players. If you have not played for a while, feel rusty or just want to improve your game, watch for future clinics to be offered in the spring. Our Cresswind Men’s ALTA tennis team, the Cresswind Experience, had a fabulous first season, winning the Division title which brought them into the playoffs. Their playoff victory over Bentley Park (Cobb County) led them to the Championship Round. Alas, despite their valiant efforts, they had to settle for City Finalist Runner-up. Congratulations to Captain, Bill Papciak, and the whole team on a sterling season. Men’s Silverball led by Dan Skeels had an exciting season of matches. Dan thanks everyone who participated and hopes that the team will come together for the spring season. Our women’s USTA team, captained by Judy Mota, enjoyed a competitive season. Watch for information when the spring USTA season will begin. Open tennis play will continue during the winter months. Don’t let the winter chill scare you off the courts. Put on your sweats and fleece and come out and enjoy the fun. Hitting and running after balls will surely warm you up, as will the comradery of your fellow tennis players.

Fun with Fashions By: Harriet Gershkowitz
The last few months of 2017 Fun With Fashions had a very informative visit at Cresswind from the decorators at Ethan Allen in Buford; spent a morning at Dillard’s viewing some of winter’s new collections and had two fun trips to Americas Mart. We have some fun happenings in 2018 starting with our Co-Ed Fashion Show on Friday, February 23rd. This will be an entertaining evening of dinner and fashions. Save the date - more information coming in January. I would like to thank all those residents who participated in all of our 2017 events.
Performing Arts By: Roy Gogel
2017 was a very productive year. Theatre and Chorus each performed two major shows. Play Scripts reads plays and then attends them locally. Two new Subsets were formed - Small Bands attracted numerous individuals who played at various levels throughout the years, and also Story Telling. We have some experienced Story Tellers! Events were also expanded in 2017. The Variety Show had another successful performance, adding more variety to the Variety Show. Additionally, television games were initiated - Family Feud was a success with active resident interaction. The Club helped select and pay for two pianos for the Clubhouse, closing an initiative initiated by the CPAC Board in 2015. Major light and sound enhancements elevated the Community’s infrastructure that is also utilized by Lifestyle and numerous clubs and committees. Also, a new website was established - www.cresswindpa.com (pa as in Performing Arts) - and then built with internal resources.
