TWR Canada: 40 Years of Ministry

February , 2013 Change is something I’ve been writing about a lot lately. It comes so fast. Sometimes it’s only when you look back that you notice how much has changed. Technology is one area where advancement has been a tremendous help to the TWR ministry, enabling us to reach more people with more programming. Technology has allowed us to do more with less, and we’ve seen this ministry grow as a result. We’re able to combine our radio ministry with streaming radio – radio you listen to on the Internet, with content available any time anywhere. It’s easier than ever before to share that online content with friends and family by just a click of a mouse. We’re no longer dependent on tapes being shipped from one location to another, crossing difficult borders and political obstacles. We send content for editing and broadcasting through Internet and satellite connections and stream content 24hours a day, 7 days a week without needing more staff to do it. Where we needed a staff of over thirty, now the same work can be done with just ten. We can load hundreds of hours of programming onto an SD card the size of your thumbnail that we load into audio players. This technology has been and will continue to be very useful in sensitive places like the Middle East and China where believers take huge risks if they’re caught with Bibles or Christian materials. March 2013 marks the 40th anniversary of TWR Canada. From the days when volunteers had to wet each stamp and stick each label to the letters you receive, to the more automated but still personal process we now have, we’ve come a long way in improving our efficiency and reach.

So many of you have been with us for this adventure, and we’re so thankful for your prayers and gifts. But we can still do more. I’m asking for your help to further the reach of TWR through projects like our portable radio and media player ministry. Solar-powered radios are given to community leaders in Africa and used for evangelism and group study tools. We recently distributed hand-held media players to Low German speaking peoples in Bolivia with very positive results. We need to do more of this, and these radios and media players are one of the most cost effective tools available. With a year’s worth of programming loaded onto a media player, we can provide meaningful spiritual content for church leaders, new believers, parents, and even children who might otherwise never hear the Gospel or grow in their faith. This new technology enhances the ongoing radio broadcasting that remains the focus of our ministry. But we need your help. Your investment in TWR will make it possible to reach even more people with the Gospel of Christ. We are humbled that God has allowed us to serve for 40 years in Canada. God willing, with your help, we will be able to accelerate the delivery of the Gospel this year as never before. Thank you for considering TWR as a recipient of your generosity.
