time, dating back to the mid 1980s. Chisum actuatlly recruited Seymour coming out of high school in hopes to get her to play at Texas State. Seymour, however, chose UT Arlington and is back again as a head coach in her 12th season.

In addition to Chisum and Seymour, these teams share another connection: San Angelo Central High School. Jordan Kohl joined the Bobcats out of Central High last seaosn, and this year she was joined by longtime friend Ally Standard. Meanwhile, UTA has a freshman from Central as well in Mikail Russell, a 5-foot-7 defensive specialist.

LYLES MAKES HER RETURN

Junior defensive specialist Brenna Lyles made her first appearance of the season against Baylor on Oct. 9. After playing in 82 sets and 27 matches last season with 213 digs and 10 service aces, Lyles received her first opportunity against Baylor, taking over at libero in the third set. Meanwhile, setter Erin Hoppe gave out a career-high 62 assists while Alex Silver finished with her best, 24 digs.

SMITH NAMED SBC DEFENSIVE STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Senior libero Sierra Smith has been on a rampage on the back line for the Bobcats this season, and was recognized for it Oct. 5. After averaging 6.50 digs per set in a four-set match against Little Rock to help the Bobcats bust a 26-match conference winning streak for the Trojans, Smith finished the week averaging 6.29 digs per set with 44 digs to earn the first conference honor of the season for the Bobcats. She has double-digit digs in 12 of 18 matches so far this season with a high of 31 digs at UTSA. Before her best week, Smith tallied 23 digs each in back-to-back sweeps for the Bobcats against Georgia State and Appalachian State, which is an average of 7.67 digs per set. She owns the Texas State record for most digs in a season and for most digs in a match and is the leading digger in the Texas State career record book. WWW.TXSTATEBOBCATS.COM
