BOBCAT BITS BEST CONFERENCE START SINCE 2003

Texas State started Sun Belt Confernece play with a six-match winning streak this season. It is Texas State’s best conference start since 2003 when the Bobcats went on a 7-0 run to start conference play that led to an 18-2 Southland Conference record and a regular season conference championship. In 2000, the Bobcats went a perfect 20-0 through the Southland Conference.

ANOTHER SBC FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

Texas State’s Jordan Kohl is the second Bobcat to earn Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Week honors. The first was Lauren Kirch. Kohl picked up the award withan impressive week leading the Bobcats in kills on an undefeated 2-0 week. The freshman from San Angelo, Texas, averaged 3.25 kills and 1.12 blocks per set with a .417 hitting percentage against South Alabama and a match-high 18 kills on the road at Troy.

ANOTHER ALL-TOURNAMENT NOD

Shelby Vas Matt took achieved her second All-Tournament nod of the season with her performance at the Texas Tech invitational. Vas Matt double-doubled in each of her matches played and averaged 3.50 kills and 3.36 digs per set on the weekend. She finished with 49 kills, 47 digs, seven aces and a block. In a five-set match against Texas Tech, Vas Matt ended with 22 kills and just one error for a .429 hitting percentage and added 16 digs in the match. In the other two matches in the tournament, she combined for 27 kills and 31 digs. Her previous All-Tournament nod was at the Houston Cougar Classic.

SUN BELT CONFERENCE FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

In addition to Lauren Kirch’s All-Tournament honor, she was also named the SBC Freshman ofthe Week. She struck 41 kills on the weekend highlighted by a 19-kill, .586 hitting percentage performance in a win against Houston. She also led the Bobcats with 14 kills against Lamar. In addition to her offensive prowess, she finished the weekend with 14 digs (1.08 per set) and eight blocks. She averaged 3.15 kills per set.

BREAKING RECORDS

Texas State has already set a brand new record for the Bobcats in the young season. The Texas State fans helped the Bobcats out when they all came out for the match against Baylor to set a new attendance record of 3,591. The new record blows away the previous record of 2,389 set in 2009 against Texas Tech. In addition to the numbers, the crowd brought plenty of energy for the Bobcats. WWW.TXSTATEBOBCATS.COM
