CHISUM APPROACHING 800 CAREER VICTORIES

Texas State Head Coach Karen Chisum is rapidly approaching 800 career victories. She heads into this weekend just two wins shy of 800 with 798 career victories. The Bobcats have gone on a three-match winning streak and won four of the team’s last five matches to build momentum. Chisum could reach 800 in San Marcos with two wins over the next three matches against UALR, Georgia State and Troy. Her last landmark victory was her 750th win over Seattle on Sept. 29, 2012, and she won her 700th game with a 3-0 sweep over Prairie View A&M on Sept. 7, 2010.

MAHONEY RETURNS

Senior setter Caylin Mahoney saw her first action of the 2014 season last weekend. After being named the Sun Belt Conference’s 2014 Preseason Setter of the Year, she suffered a broken finger that shelved her for most of the season. However, in her return, she led the Bobcats to a 3-2 victory over UL Lafayette for the team’s first win on the road since Sept. 27. After that, in a 3-1 victory over South Alabama, Mahoney was one kill shy of a triple-double and just three blocks and a kill shy of a quadruple-double. She’s quickly rounding back into form for the Bobcats and just in time.

BEST CONFERENCE START SINCE 2003

Texas State started Sun Belt Confernece play with a six-match winning streak this season. It is Texas State’s best conference start since 2003 when the Bobcats went on a 7-0 run to start conference play that led to an 18-2 Southland Conference record and a regular season conference championship. In 2000, the Bobcats went a perfect 20-0 through the Southland Conference.

ANOTHER SBC FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

Texas State’s Jordan Kohl is the second Bobcat to earn Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Week honors. The first was Lauren Kirch. Kohl had an impressive week, leading the Bobcats in kills on an undefeated 2-0 week. She averaged 3.25 kills and 1.12 blocks per set with a .417 hitting percentage against South Alabama and a match-high 18 kills at Troy. Kirch won it when she struck 41 kills highlighted by a 19kill, .586 hitting percentage performance against Houston. She also led the Bobcats with 14 kills against Lamar. She finished the week with 14 digs (1.08 per set) and eight blocks. She averaged 3.15 kills per set. WWW.TXSTATEBOBCATS.COM
