BOBCATS BY THE NUMBERS 2- 2014-15 marks the second year the Bobcats have been a member of the Sun Belt Conference. The Bobcats were in the Southland Conference in 2011 before joining the WAC in 2012 and the Sun Belt Conference in 2013. 7 - Texas State is allowing just 51.6 points per game defensively this season. for seventh in the country, and a near 15-point improvement from last season. 40 - Texas State has now allowed an opponent to score fewer than 40 points twice under Danny Kaspar. Prior to Kaspar’s arrival the last time a team failed to break 40 was 2003.

2010 - Cameron Naylor’s double-double of 18 points and 16 rebounds was the first time a Texas State player had reached those totals since Tony Bishop had 20 and 16 in 2010.

What You Need to Know Point Limit - 20 This season Texas State has shown improvement on the defensive end, limiting the opposition to 51.6 points per game. Included in that mark has been allowing 20 points or fewer in a half five times this season. That mark is fifth most in the NCAA this season. Below is where the Bobcats rank. Times allowed 20 points or fewer in a half this season: Virginia 9 Kentucky 7 Louisville 6 UNC Central 6 Texas State 5 Cam I Am Junior forward Cameron Naylor has impressed during his first four games of the season. Against Howard Payne he scored 18 points and added 16 rebounds. He was the first Bobcats to achieve both milestones in the same game since Tony Bishop in 2010. For the season, Naylor is averaging 9.2 points and 6.4 rebounds per game (11th in Sun Belt). He also has contributed three blocks, all of which came against Lamar. All-Conference Performer Junior forward Emani Gant was named to the All-Sun Belt Second-Team. Gant is coming off a season in which he averaged 8.9 points per game and 5.0 rebounds per game. Both totals are most among returning players from last year’s team. He began his career with a 19-point game at Houston in his first Division I game. Gant finished second in the Sun Belt with a field goal percentage of .546 (118-of-216). Gant has begun the year in fine form, picking up his first double-double of the year on Nov. 19 with 14 points and 13 rebounds. He was named the Elgin Baylor Class MVP at Seattle with 17 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Gant currently second in the Sun Belt Conference in steals (3.0) and is in the top 10 in several other categories: Scoring - 15.5 ppg (7th), Rebounds - 7.8 (4th), Field Goal pct - .634 (3rd), and Blocks - 1.3 (6th)

Fourth All Time Davis made his mark on the defensive end last season. Davis held NBA First Round Draft Pick Elfrid Payton to 10 points at Strahan Coliseum. Davis picked up nine more steals in his first game this year, and has 143 for his career. Below is where Davis stands all-time at Texas State.

Great Defense The Bobcats held Texas Lutheran to 31 points, marking the 16th time in Danny Kaspar’s career he has held a team to 40 points or less. The Bobcats have now held three opponents under 40 points in the last two years, after previously not holding an opponent to under 40 since 2003-04 when the team held Nicholls to 37 and Texas Lutheran to 39. The 24.4 percent from the field by Texas Lutheran was the lowest opponent field goal percentage since Kaspar came to Texas State. No Points for You As is usual for Danny Kaspar, the Texas State defense finds itself atop the rankings for points allowed per game. The Bobcats have allowed 55 points or fewer in three of their first four games, after doing so just four times all last year. The Bobcats are allowing an average of 51.8 points per game, which is the lowest in the Sun Belt by nearly eight points per game and ranks seventh in the country.

Turning the Opposition Over Texas State has been stifling through its first four games in taking the ball away from its opponents. The Bobcats are averaging 19.6 turnovers defensively, after causing Texas Lutheran to turn it over 30 times on Wednesday The 19.6 turnovers have calculated to a turnover on 26.3 percent of opponents’ possessions, which is 13th best in the country. Thus far in Kaspar’s tenure, the Bobcats are 6-2 when forcing 17+ turnovers from their opponents. This season has marked the first time the Bobcats have done it in back-to-back games, doing so twice against Seattle (18) and Lamar (20) and then Howard Payne (18) and Texas Lutheran (30).

Amongst Country’s Elite • Texas State is currently the No. 7 defense in the country, allowing 51.6 points per game. • The 31 points allowed to Texas Lutheran was the lowest by an opponent since allowing 19 to Abilene Christian in 1957. • With the 39 points given up to Howard Payne on Sunday, it marked the first time since 1952 that Texas State has allowed fewer than 40 points in back-to-back games since giving up 35 to Texas A&M Kingsville, and 27 to Sul Ross. Best in Decades • The Bobcats current 4-1 start is the first time the Bobcats have done that since the 2007-08 season. • Texas State got off to a 2-0 start this year, much better than the 0-5 start last season in Coach Kaspar’s first season. • This year marks the first time that the Bobcats have opened the season 2-0 against two Division I opponents since the 1998-99 season when the team beat WisconsinGreen Bay and Baylor. • Defensively, the Bobcats have also been their best in 16 years, as they allowed just 107 combined points through the first two games. • That total is the lowest since allowing 106 in the 2-0 start in 1998 as well. Sign of Changing Times • Texas State’s come from behind win at Seattle was memorable for a number of reasons. • The win marked the first time under Danny Kaspar the Bobcats came from behind at halftime to win, trailing 33-26 at break. The Bobcats were 0-15 when down after 20 minutes last season. • The Bobcats were outrebounded by just one in the season opener 27-26. However, it marked just the second time in 15 tries under Kaspar the Bobcats won when on the losing end of the boards. Suffocating Defense • From the second half of Seattle through the first half of Lamar, the Bobcats held the two teams to a combined 37 points through the two halves. • Texas State allowed 20 points in the second half at Seattle and 17 in the first half to Lamar, the second lowest allowed under Kaspar. • The Bobcats reached those totals in both halves of the Howard Payne game, allowing just 18 in the first half and 21 in the second. Below are the fewest points allowed in a half under Kaspar. Opponent Points allowed Half Date ULM 9 2nd 1/11/14 Texas Lutheran 13 2nd 12/3/14 Lamar 17 1st 11/19/14 Howard Payne 18 1st 11/30/14 Texas Lutheran 18 1st 12/3/14 Seattle 20 2nd 11/14/14 Stealing the Ball • Nov. 14, the Bobcats had 12 steals, the most under head coach Danny Kaspar. • The Bobcats have now had 10+ steals three times under Kaspar. • Contributing to the cause was Wes Davis who had four steals of his own, who has 143 for his career.
