A LOOK AT THE COMPETITION • Lamar enters Tuesday’s contest with a 0-4 overall record, falling to Sun Belt Conference member UL Lafayette in the season opener.
THE LAST TIME OUT • The last time these two squads faced off against each other was last season in Beaumont. The Lady Cardinals defeated the Bobcats by a score of 68-55.
• Other losses for the Lady Cardinals include at Tulsa, at Oklahoma, and at home against UTSA.
• Ashley Ezeh and Ayriel Anderson led the Bobcats offensively with 19 and 12 points, respectively.
• Shauna Long has scored a career 125 three-pointers for the Lady Cardinals which is good enough for fourth on Lamar’s all-time list.
• Shauna Long recorded a floor-high 28 points off the bench for Lamar. In that game, she finished 6-of-11 from long range.
• Dominique Edwards leads the Lady Cardinals in scoring this season with 15.8 points per game. She currently is shooting 48.0 percent from the floor and leads the team with an 81.3 percent mark at the free throw line. • In addition to leading the team in scoring, Edwards also leads Lamar on the boards with 6.8 per contest. • The Lady Cardinals are coached by Robin Harmony who is currently in her second season at the helm. Last season, she led Lamar to an 18-13 overall record. • Lamar was picked to finish third in the Southland Conference in the Coaches’ Poll.
ABOUT THE BOBCATS • The Texas State Bobcats enter the 2014-15 season with nine returners and four newcomers. • Last season, the Bobcats earned an invitation to the WBI Tournament which marked the first postseason appearance for Texas State since the 2008 season. • Last year’s Bobcats finished with a 16-16 overall record and 12-6 conference mark. • Texas State’s conference record was good enough to put them in a tie for third place overall in the Sun Belt Conference after originally being picked ninth by the league coaches. • This preseason, juniors Erin Peoples and Ayriel Anderson were both chosen to All-SBC Preseason Teams.
