SCOUTING THE COMPETITION HOUSTON BAPTIST Coming into Wednesday’s contest, the Houston Baptist Huskies are 10-23 overall and 4-13 in conference play.

Mary-Ellen Hall leads the Huskies in her 24th season as head coach at Houston Baptist. LAST TIME OUT FOR TXST Texas State is coming off of of a series victory over the Trojans of Troy last weekend. The Bobcats lost game one of the series before picking up victories in games two and three.

Houston Baptist has faced many of the opponents Texas State has defeated this season. Houston Baptist has played Florida International, Samford, Lamar, and three other common opponents. Nicole Shedd leads the Huskies’ offensive charge with a .364 batting average, 20 RBI, a .586 slugging percentage, and four home runs. The freshman from Universal City, Texas, also carries 36 hits on the season. Senior Melissa Herman has hit three homeruns on the season and carries a .341 batting average. Herman leads the team with 23 runs. The Huskies have a team batting average of .277 and have totaled 14 home runs on the season. In the circle for Houston Baptist, Laci Belovsky leads the pitching staff with a 4.89 ERA over 103 innings of work. In her first season at Houston Baptist, the junior has tallied 65 strikeouts. The Husky pitching staff carries a 6.64 ERA and has a combined total of 109 strikeouts on the season.

Texas State came from behind in game three to pull away with the win. Ariel Ortiz hit the game-winning double to score Baker on Sunday.

ATTENDANCE BARRIERS Against the Longhorns last Friday, Texas State welcomed the second-largest crowd of 986 to the Bobcat Softball Stadium. The largest crowd was in the stadium opener on February 18, 2009 against Texas A&M. There were 1,353 people at that game. NO-HITTER, NO PROBLEM Randi Rupp struck out 11 and was just a hit by pitch away from a perfect game, leading Texas State to its first no-hitter since 2012 against UL Monroe on March 23, 2015.
