SCOUTING THE COMPETITION UMASS-LOWELL In the young season, the UMass-Lowell Riverhawks own a 4-6 record. Alyssa Zinkiewicz leads the Riverhawks with a .429 batting average and 12 hits. Along with Zinkiewicz, Brianna Martin is the only other Riverhawk with double digit hits with 10. As a team, UMass-Lowell is hitting .240 while allowing their opponents to hit .322 on the year. Marielle Handley and Erica Armenti have put in the most innings in the circle for UMass-Lowell. Combined they have 32 strikeouts with 19 walks. UAB UAB enters the weekend with a 5-4 overall record with victories over Wisconsin, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, George Washington, and Appalachian State. Caitlin Attfield leads the Blazers with a .484 batting average and 15 hits. JoJo Fallen has recorded a team-high nine RBI so far this season. Megan Smith has put in a team-high 30.2 innings in the circle for UAB and owns a 5.02 ERA. She has struck out 27 of the team’s 44 batters this season. FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL Florida International owns a 7-5 overall record through the first two weeks of play. Stephanie Texeira is one of three players to have started in all 12 contests for the Panthers and she leads the team with a .500 batting average. In 28 at bats, Texeira has recorded 14 hits, two home runs, and 13 RBI. Corinne Jenkins has taken command in the circle for the Panthers, putting in a team-high 42.1 innings of work with a 5-3 record. Her ERA is currently sitting at 1.82 and she has struck out 29 batters this year. ROBERT MORRIS The Robert Morris Colonials have played in just four games so far this season and own a 2-2 record in those contests. Jordan Gurganus leads the way offensively with a .571 batting average and eight hits. Two pitchers have seen time in the circle for Robert Morris in Nicole Sleith and Haileigh Stocks. Sleith has pitched in 17.1 innings and has struck out 34 batters thus far. She has held her opponents to just a .150 batting average through 60 at bats.

WICHITA STATE The Wichita State Shockers come into the weekend with a 6-3 record while earning victories over Texas, IPFW, Colorado State, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Stephen F. Austin. Most recently, the Shockers are coming off of a 14-0 shutout against IPFW. In batters with at least 10 at bats, Macklin Hitz leads the way with a batting average of .417. Brittany Fortner and Cacy Williams have recorded a team-high 12 hits and each player has recorded five doubles. The Shockers have a team ERA of 4.27 and have four pitchers that have seen time in the circle. Katie Malone has put in the most work (23.2 innings) and has struck out a team-high 16 batters. HARVARD The Harvard Crimson is the only team the Bobcats will play this weekend that have not yet played a game in 2015. Last year, Harvard finished with a 28-15-1 overall record and a 14-3-1 mark in Ivy League play. Harvard finished the year on three straight losses in conference play, all of which came to Dartmouth. IMMEDIATE IMPACT... Freshman shortstop Ariel Ortiz was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week this past week. Ortiz finished the weekend with 11 hits, including three home runs, five doubles, and a triple. She tallied a team-high seven RBI and nine runs scored. BOBCAT BITS Seniors Courtney Harris and Kortney Koroll were named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference teams. Harris was the conference pick at third base while Koroll was the team’s designated player. The two combined for 16 of the Bobcat’s 45 home runs last year. In 2014, the Bobcats hit 45 home runs which marked the second most in school history. Texas State also recorded the second highest batting average (.273) and third most runs scored (239) in 2014. Kelli Baker returns as the Bobcats leading hitter as she averaged a team-high .328 last season. She recorded six home runs, 57 total hits and 174 at bats. The Bobcats return their top five home run hitters from last season.
