A LOOK AT THE COMPETITION - UTEP The UTEP soccer team kicks off its 19th season against the Bobcats.

The 2013 Bobcats set a program record for most overtime contests in a single season with six, of which only one resulted in a victory.

Sixteen out of the 24 active players are either freshman or sophomores on coach Kevin Cross’ squad.

Texas State finished the 2013 non-conference schedule with a 3-5-1 record, picking up home victories against Prairie View A&M and Sam Houston State while defeating Northwestern State on the road in the season opener.

UTEP is 15-3 in season openers, including 12-1 under Cross. The lone defeat in a season opener under Cross was to Texas State back in 2004. A LOOK AT THE COMPETITION - NEW MEXICO ST. New Mexico State finished the 2013 season with a 5-13-2 overall record. Senior Layla Todd led the Aggies in points and goals last season with 11 and five, respectively. LAST TIME OUT - UTEP The Miners got on the board in the 85th minute for the lone goal of the contest. The first half of the game was a true defensive battle as both teams were held scoreless. Ashley Jackson and Natalie Gardini played key roles in the first half, as Jackson stopped a primary scoring opportunity right in front of the Texas State goal and Gardini made a diving save to keep it a 0-0 game. LAST TIME OUT - NEW MEXICO STATE The only time that the Bobcats have faced off against New Mexico State was back on October 19, 2012. Texas State defeated the Aggies, 3-0, in San Marcos.

SUN BELT TOURNAMENT

2013 REVIEW With a debut in its third conference in as many seasons, the Texas State soccer team found its way to the semifinal match of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament and an 8-9-2 overall record.

The Bobcats started the conference schedule on the right foot, posting a 2-0-1 record through the first three contests, including the team’s first ever Sun Belt Conference victory on the road against Troy. After the timely victory against Troy in the quarterfinal game, the Bobcats were matched up against a Western Kentucky squad who previously defeated them in the final moments of a double-overtime contest earlier in the season. With 88 minutes of scoreless action, the Lady Toppers capitalized in the 89th minute to defeat Texas State, 1-0. Tori Hale, who was in her second season with the Bobcats in 2013, has made an impact as well on the all-time charts. With a team-leading nine assists to end the season, Hale tied Jessica Armendariz for the most assists in a single-season at Texas State. Armendariz set that mark back in 2000 after the program’s second season. With 15 career assists, Hale is in a tie for second, just two assists shy of Britney Curry’s record of 17 set from 2007-10. Hale finished the season named Second-Team AllConference along with teammate Lynsey Curry. Curry finished the season with a team-high seven goals, three of which occurred during conference play. She also led the team with 79 total shots and 15 total points. Senior Gabbi Cottee was second on the points list with 14 (5 G, 4 A).
