LAST TIME OUT - NORTHWESTERN STATE Sunday’s contest marks the 25th meeting between the Lady Demons and the Bobcats. The last time that the Bobcats played against the Lady Demons was back in 2013 when Texas won by a score of 3-1 in Natchitoches, La.

Kat Conner is seeking her 158th career victory at Texas State on Friday. 2013 REVIEW With a debut in its third conference in as many seasons, the Texas State soccer team found its way to the semifinal match of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament and an 8-9-2 overall record. The 2013 Bobcats set a program record for most overtime contests in a single season with six, of which only one resulted in a victory. Texas State finished the 2013 non-conference schedule with a 3-5-1 record, picking up home victories against Prairie View A&M and Sam Houston State while defeating Northwestern State on the road in the season opener. The Bobcats started the conference schedule on the right foot, posting a 2-0-1 record through the first three contests, including the team’s first ever Sun Belt Conference victory on the road against Troy. After the timely victory against Troy in the quarterfinal game, the Bobcats were matched up against a Western Kentucky squad who previously defeated them in the final moments of a double-overtime contest earlier in the season. With 88 minutes of scoreless action, the Lady Toppers capitalized in the 89th minute to defeat Texas State, 1-0.

KAT CONNER

HEAD COACH 16TH SEASON OVERALL

In 1999, head coach Kat Conner was given the opportunity to build a women’s soccer program at Texas State. She has not only built a program, but created a legacy. In her 15 seasons as the leader of the Bobcats, she has won a combined four championships, five conference tournaments, and she also has taken Texas State to the NCAA Tournament five times. Last season, Conner guided the Bobcats in their third conference in as many seasons, finishing with a 4-3-1 conference record and a Semi-Final finish in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. Sophomore Lynsey Curry, a forward from Cypress, Texas who earned Freshman of the Year honors in the WAC the previous season, earned Second-Team AllConference honors. Tori Hale also was named Second-Team All-SBC. In just her second season with the Bobcats in 2013, Hale also tied the single season record in assists with nine. Conner’s latest appearance in the NCAA Tournament came in 2011 after the Bobcats defeated Stephen F. Austin in the Southland Conference Tournament, 1-0. Heading into the

game, SFA was the leading goal scoring team in the country with over 3.4 goals per game. Texas State finished that season 14-6-1, just one of 20 teams in the country to win at least 12 games. From 2008-11, the Bobcats won a combined 53 games, 30th most in the NCAA. Individually, Texas State finished the 2011 season with a league-high six All-Southland Conference selections along with Newcomer of the Year, Andrea Mauk. During her tenure, Conner coached three Southland Conference Players of the Year, four Newcomers of the Year, three Freshman of the Year, one All-American and 65 AllConference team members. In Texas State’s inaugural season, Conner led Texas State to a 9-9-3 overall record and a 6-3-3 mark in the Southland Conference to finish third overall and advance to the league’s postseason tournament. Despite the inexperience, Texas State claimed its first-ever SLC Tournament title and played in the NCAA Tournament play-in game. Two years later, the Bobcats returned to the NCAA Tournament after posting a 14-7-0 overall record and claiming the SLC title and sweeping through the SLC tournament. It was just the second time in league history a team had won both the conference and conference tournament championships. Conner continued her winning ways in 2002 when Texas State shared the SLC championship with Southeastern Louisiana, and again in 2004 when the Bobcats won the SLC Tournament and made its third appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Texas State turned in the best season of Texas State’s soccer in history in 2008. The Bobcats posted a 13-4-4 overall record and went undefeated against SLC opponents with a 7-0-2 mark to claim the SLC championship. Duplicating the feat previously achieved in 2001, Texas State alsowon the Southland Tournament and advanced to the NCAA’s. Texas State met Texas A&M in the first round of the NCAA postseason for the third time in

NEWS AROUND THE LEAGUE The Texas State Bobcats are off to their best start since the 2004 season, opening the 2014 campaign with a tie against UTEP and defeating New Mexico State on Sunday, 2-0. This weekend marks the home opener for the Bobcats in Kat Conner’s 16th season as the head coach of the Bobcats. The Bobcats will take on Texas A&M-CC as Coach Conner goes for her 158th win. UALR came out on fire to begin the 2014 campaign, claiming a 7-0 victory over Chicago State on Friday night and a 6-0 win against Southern on Sunday. UALR’s 13 goals in the two games is its highest ever total to start a season. Ariel Galletti and Quin Wilkes were the stars offensively in the two games, each netting a natural hat trick after coming off the bench late in the first half. Galletti’s three goals came in a span of five minutes while Wilkes scored hers in 12 minutes. Georgia Southern is off to just its third 2-0 start in the last 10 years after defeating Francis Marion and UNC Wilmington to open the weekend. The last time the Eagles started at 2-0 was in 2012 when GS rattled off a six-match unbeaten streak and went on to win the SoCon Tournament. Nora El-Shami opened her junior campaign with two goals and raised her carer scoring account to 11 career goals. She took nine shots against FMU, good for the second-highest single-game total in Georgia Southern history. PLAYERS OF THE WEEK In week one, Merlin Beckwith of Appalachian State and Katie Merson of Georgia Southern were named the Sun Belt Conferences Players of the Week.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 24 Southern at UALR W, 6-0 Georgia Southern at UNC Wilmington W, 2-0 Appalachian State at Elon W, 3-1 UL Monroe at Northwestern State W, 3-0 Nicholls State at South Alabama W, 3-0 Troy at Louisiana Tech L, 2-4 Texas State at New Mexico State W, 2-1 Tulsa at Arkansas State L, 0-1 UL Lafayette at Southeastern Louisiana L, 0-3

Beckwith tallied her second career multigoal effort of her career on Sunday. Beckwith scored two goals in a 3-1 App State win. Beckwith scored both goals within a 10 minute stretch in the second half with the first tally in the 52nd minute and the second in the 62nd minute to help propel App State over Elon in the season opener.

MONDAY, AUGUST 25 Georgia State at Kennesaw State T, 1-1 (2OT)
