SCOUTING THE COMPETITION AUBURN The Tigers are currently 17-1 this season, with their only loss being a 4-2 decision against Dartmouth. Tiffany Howard leads the Tigers in batting average with .604, and ties with Emily Carosone for runs scored with 27 each.

Auburn has launched 36 home runs this season compared to just five by their opponents.

Lexi Davis, Rachael Walters, and Marcy Harper have a combined 90.0 innings pitched with 83 strikeouts. Davis leads the way with an 8-0 record in 37.2 innings in the circle. Opponents average just .222 against the Tigers so far this season.

SIUE With a 7-2 record so far, the Cougars have a team batting average of .311 with seven home runs and 49 runs scored. The two losses this season for the Cougars were a 4-3 loss to Sun Belt Conference member UL Monroe and a 9-0 shutout loss against Georgia.

Haley Chambers not only leads the way in the batter’s box for

the Cougars with a .464 batting average, but she also owns a commanding 5-0 record in a team-high 30.0 innings pitched in the circle. She has struck out 42 and has a 0.93 ERA. SAMFORD Samford is currently 12-2 through the first few weeks of competition with a 4-1 record at a neutral site. The team is averaging .360 with Megan Dowdy leading the way with an average of .491.

Caitlin Bice has recorded a team-high 15 and four home runs for the Bulldogs. Four members of the Bulldog squad are averaging over .400 and an addition five more are averaging above .300.

The Bulldogs own a 3.61 ERA as Mollie Hanson leads the team with a 2.27 mark. She has struck out a team-high 21 batters and has held her opponents to a .221 batting average.

CONNECTICUT The Huskies enter the Wilson/DeMarini Classic with a 3-2 overall record after competing at the Troy Invitational this past weekend.

The two losses so far for the Huskies were against SBC foe Troy.

Jacklyn Dubois leads the Huskies in the batter’s box, hitting .429 through 14 at bats. Alyson Ambler leads the team in RBI with six, total bases with 10, and home runs with two. Lauren Duggan leads the Huskies in the circle with a 1.93 ERA in 14.0 innings pitched.

IMMEDIATE IMPACT...

Freshman shortstop Ariel Ortiz was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week in the first weekend of the season.

Ortiz finished the weekend with 11 hits, including three home runs, five doubles, and a triple. She tallied a teamhigh seven RBI and nine runs scored.

BOMBS AWAY At the Madeira Beach Classic, junior first baseman Kendall Wiley was the offensive spark for Texas State after launching six home runs in six games.

Against Robert Morris, Wiley hit three home runs, the most home runs in a game by a Sun Belt Conference member since the 2013 season.

Her efforts this past weekend earned her the second Player of the Week nod for Texas State.

BOBCAT BITS Seniors Courtney Harris and Kortney Koroll were named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference teams. Harris was the conference pick at third base while Koroll was the team’s designated player.

The two combined for 16 of the Bobcat’s 45 home runs last year.

In 2014, the Bobcats hit 45 home runs which marked the second most in school history. Texas State also recorded the second highest batting average (.273) and third most runs scored (239) in 2014.

Kelli Baker returns as the Bobcats leading hitter as she averaged a team-high .328 last season. She recorded six home runs, 57 total hits and 174 at bats.

The Bobcats return their top five home run hitters from last season.

APPROACHING 500...

Head coach Ricci Woodard just seven games shy of 500 career victories, all of which occurred while being the head coach of the Bobcats.

BOBCAT ADDITIONS (COACHES) After a fifth-place finish in its inaugural season as a member of the Sun Belt Conference, the Texas State softball team looks to improve in 2015 with a solid group of newcomers, a core group of returners, and changes within its staff.

Two changes in the offseason for the Bobcats were the hiring’s of two-time Olympians Cat Osterman and Kelly

Kretschman as assistant coaches. Osterman, the reigning National Professional Fastpitch’s Pitcher of the Year, will primarily work with the Bobcat pitching staff.

Kretschman, a .330 career hitter and six-time NPF Champion, will assist with recruiting in addition to coaching the outfielders and hitters.

BOBCAT ADDITIONS (PLAYERS) Along with the changes on the coaching staff, the Texas State softball team welcomes seven newcomers to the 2015 roster. Isabelle Barnes, Allison Brascom, Braegan Hamilton, Ariel Ortiz, Randi Rupp, Sara Rupp, and Taylor Webb are all looking to make an immediate impact for the 2015 Bobcats.

In the summer of 2014, newcomer Randi Rupp was named the 2013-14 Gatorade Texas Softball Player of the Year after posting a 27-1 record in the circle along with a 0.45 ERA. In addition to Randi Rupp, Braegan Hamilton and Rupp’s twin sister, Sara, were on the 32-1 Barbers Hill High School team that finished at the Class 4A semifinals last season.

RETURNING TO THE LINEUP Returners in the infield for the Bobcats include first baseman Kendall Wiley, second baseman Kelli Baker, third baseman Courtney Harris, and catcher Katie Doerre. Last season, Baker led the Bobcats with a .328 batting average and 57 hits on the year. She and Harris were two of four Bobcats last season that started in every game.

Other returners that the Bobcats will look to for production next season include Alli Akina, Lexi Fryar, Kortney Koroll, Kimberlin Naivar, Bianca Prado, and Danielle Warne. In her first season as a Bobcat, Kortney Koroll led the Bobcats with nine home runs, a mark good enough to land her on the top-10 charts for home runs in a season at Texas State.

Returners on the pitching staff include Kaylee Garner and Ashley Wright who combined for 42 appearances during the 2014 season. Garner and Wright will be joined

by Randi Rupp and Taylor Webb on the mound for this upcoming season.

A GLANCE AT THE UPCOMING SCHEDULE The Bobcats will play in four tournaments this season, including the CenturyLink Classic and the Hampton Inn and Suites Tournament that will be held at the Bobcat Softball Stadium.

The Bobcats conclude their 2015 tournament schedule in Auburn, Ala. at the Wilson/DeMarini Classic on Feb. 26-28.

The Bobcats play the host school, Auburn, in their first game before playing Southern Illinois-Edwardsville and Samford insingle-games on Feb. 27 and Connecticut in a double-header on Feb. 28.

Additional non-conference games include former Southland Conference foes Lamar, Stephen F. Austin, McNeese State, and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, along with Incarnate Word, Houston Baptist and Texas A&M. This season, the Bobcats also play a pair of games against Texas, one in Austin and one in San Marcos. The Bobcats will also host Baylor after traveling up to Waco last season.

2015 TEXAS STATE SOFTBALL In their second season of Sun Belt conference action, the Bobcats will play every school in the conference three times, starting with a doubleheader on the first day followed by a single game on day two. The 2015 conference schedule kicksoff at Georgia Southern on March 7. Other conference road series include UL Monroe on March 21 and 22, South Alabama on April 18 and 19, and UT Arlington on May 2 and 3.

The conference home slate begins on March 14 and 15 with Georgia State coming to San Marcos. The other home conference series are against UL Lafayette on March 28 and 29, Troy on April 11 and 12, and newcomer Appalachian State on April 25 and 26.

UL Lafayette and South Alabama were in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top-25 poll as well, earning the No. 8 and No. 23 spots, respectively, at the end of the season.

The Bobcats also host the 2015 Sun Belt Conference Tournament in just their second season in the league. Games begin May 6 and will run through May 9 at the Bobcat Softball Stadium.

Georgia Southern.

The reigning Sun Belt Conference softball champions, UL Lafayette, enter the 2015 season once again as the favorite to claim the league title. The Ragin’ Cajuns starting catcher, junior Lexie Elkins, was tabbed as the Preseason Player of the Year while the team’s redshirt senior starting pitcher Christina Hamilton was selected as the Preseason Pitcher of the Year.

South Alabama enters the season ranked No. 23 in the same poll behind the stellar play of senior pitcher Farish Beard. A Preseason All-Conference pitcher, Beard was a Top-25 finalist for 2014 USA Softball Collegiate Player-of-the-Year award and was named a Sun Belt First Team All-Conference at-large selection last season. She led the NCAA in ERA for three weeks before finishing sixth in the category (1.23) and fifth in hits allowed per seven innings (3.40). Beard was joined by fellow Jaguars Blair Johnson and Stephanie Pilkington on the Preseason All-Conference Team.

PRESEASON FACTS The Texas State softball team was tabbed to finish fourth in the Sun Belt Conference Preseason poll.

OFFSEASON NEWS Courtney Harris was named to the College Sports Madness Sun Belt Conference Preseason First-Team while Kelli Baker and Kortney Koroll were named to the second-team.

Freshman Ariel Ortiz was named the Freshman of the Year for College Sports Madness.

The Bobcats finished with 48 points, nine points behind third place Georgia State and four points ahead of fifth place

In 14 years at the helm of the Texas State softball program, head coach Ricci Woodard has guided her team to a 484-319-1 record, 10 conference championships and five NCAA Regional Championship appearances.

Conference teams. Four Bobcats also received All-Tournament team honors. Chandler Hall was named the MVP of the SLC Tournament for the second time in her career and picked up her third All-Region distinction. Four players were also named to the SLC All-Academic team for their classroom achievements.

The 2014 season brought continual change for Woodard and the Texas State softball team when the Bobcats joined the Sun Belt Conference, their third conference in as many seasons. Texas State finished with a fifth place finish in the standings after earning key victories such as taking two out of three from then-ranked No. 11 South Alabama. Four Bobcats were recognized on the SBC All-Conference Second-Team at the end of the season.

The 2010 season was an up and down roller coaster campaign for Texas State, but the Bobcats managed to hold on to share the conference title with Stephen F. Austin to make it a three-peat.

Individually, Hall earned SLC Pitcher of the Year honors for the second-straight year. Her honor earned Texas State the seventh overall and fifth-straight; all under Woodard. The Bobcats also featured three All-Conference and All-Academic selections, four All-Tournament team members, two AllRegion players and one CoSIDA All-District honoree.

In addition, Rayn House and Courtney Harris became the first Bobcats since 2012 to earn NFCA Division I All-Region Second-Team honors for the Central Region. It was also the first time since 2010 that Texas State had two players chosen to a team. House finished her two-year Bobcat career in the top-10 in wins, shutouts, and strikeouts.

In 2013, Woodard led the Bobcats to a fourth-place finish in the WAC, the second conference in as many seasons for Texas State. At the conclusion of the season, five players were selected Second-Team All-WAC. A year earlier during the 50th anniversary of the Southland Conference, Woodard was selected as the All-Time Winningest Coach in SLC history with a 249-75-1 conference record from 2001-12. In addition, Woodards former players McKenzie Baack, Ragan Blake, Jessica Chase, Haley Gaddis, Chandler Hall, Nicole Neuerburg, Alex Newton, Katie Ann Trahan, and Kristen Zaleski were all selected to the SLC All-Time softball team.

Woodard and her Bobcats capped off their Southland Conference careers winning the regular season and tournament crown, as well as earning a trip to the 2012 NCAA College Station Regional in 2012. Texas State had six players named to the All-SLC team, while senior Chandler Hall was voted SLC Player and Pitcher of the Year. Woodard also was selected SLC Coach of the Year for the fourth time in her career.

Five players received SLC All-Tournament accolades, while Hall became the first three-time MVP in league history. Hall also was the first Four-Time All-Region honoree in Bobcat history.

The 2012 squad posted the third-best winning percentage in school history at .696 (39-17), and the 39 wins were the fourth-most in school history.

In 2011, Texas State won the Southland Conference Tournament title and earned a trip to the NCAA Austin Regional. Woodard’s squad finished the season with the second-best batting average in school history at .268, while a league-leading seven players were named to the All-

Texas State beat five Big 12 teams in 2009, to pad its resume after earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Waco Regional. The Bobcats run ruled No. 13 Northwestern in its first game.

Hall earned Southland Conference Freshman and Pitcher of the Year honors, while senior Alex Newton earned the Southland Conference Softball Player and Student-Athlete of the Year awards. Both players received Louisville Slugger/ NFCA Division I All-Region team honors.

Texas State had six players named to the 2009 SLC AllConference teams, as the Bobcats finished the season 40-18 for their second 40+ win season since 2003.

Woodard was named the 2008 Southland Conference Coach of the Year for the third time in her career, after leading her team to a first place showing at the end of the regular season.

In 2008, the Bobcats recorded a 35-18 record. They started the conference schedule winning eight straight games, and ended the season winning five of their last six games to finish 25-5 in the SLC. While leading her team to a first place finish, Woodard had eight of her players named to the SLC All-Conference Team to lead all teams.

Senior pitcher Ragan Blake was named SLC Pitcher of the Year, while newcomer McKenzie Baack was voted SLC Hitter of the Year.

In 2007, Texas State finished 32-26 overall and 18-12 in the SLC. Among the 32 wins was a 3-0 win at No. 18 Texas.

The Bobcats also advanced to the final day of the Southland Conference Tournament before falling to tournament

In 2006, the Bobcats finished 34-22 overall, going 18-5 in conference play to finish second place in the regular season standings.

2015 TEXAS STATE SOFTBALL Texas State also defeated No. 1 ranked Texas, 2-1, in extra innings before a record crowd of over 1,100 at Bobcat Field. The Longhorns were one of five 2006 opponents for the Bobcats that made the NCAA Tournament Field. As the second seed in the 2006 SLC Tournament, the Bobcats defeated Nicholls and Northwestern State, but fell to UT Arlington in a loser’s bracket game.

The season also marked the second-consecutive year that Woodard was honored as the SLC Coach of the Year. In 2001, Woodard took the helm at Texas State as the program’s fourth head coach and immediately had unprecedented success. The Bobcats had their best record in program history (54-12), a SLC title, an SLC Tournament Championship and earned an

Prior to coaching her current post with Texas State, Woodard served as an assistant coach at the University of Oregon for four seasons. In her first collegiate coaching experience, Woodard helped lead the Ducks to three consecutive national top 25 finishes and three consecutive appearances in the NCAA Regional Championships.

Woodard began her coaching career working with high school teams. Prior to becoming a Duck, she worked as head coach at Midland (TX) High School. The Bulldogs won a district title for the first time in school history under Woodard’s guidance.

Texas State struggled to a 26-27 overall mark in 2005. However, the Bobcats still showed they were among the Southland’s best teams, going 18-8 in conference play to tie for second in the standings.

In 2004, Texas State finished 37-20, and had a second place in the SLC. With the 37 victories Woodard became the all-time wins leader among Texas State softball coaches as she surpassed Pam Wuestenberg, who guided the first 10 Bobcat softball teams, with her 172nd win.

She also successfully started a softball program at Brazosport High School in Freeport, before going to Midland and eventually entering college coaching.

Woodard guided the Bobcats to a 46-18-1 record in 2003. Finishing 21-5-1 in the SLC, the Bobcats placed second in the regular season race, but still earned an NCAA Tournament bid. It marked the second year Woodard’s team played in Woodard and her sons, Alex and Joey an NCAA regional tournament. The Bobcats went 3-2 in the Austin Regional, falling to eventual Women’s College World Series participant Texas in the regional appearance in the NCAA Regional Tournament. Texas State finals after earning wins over Arizona State, Northwestern and advanced to the regional finals before bowing out to eventual Hawai’i.

2001 NCAA National Champion Arizona.

The 2002 season brought the second straight SLC championship to San Marcos as the Bobcats posted a 37-22 overall record and went 23-4 in the SLC. The SLC title was the fourth in the program’s then-17 year history.

As a player, Woodard played infield at Central Arizona Junior College, where she served as team captain. She also played at New Mexico State and graduated with a B.S. in education in 1991.

Woodard played high school ball at Carlsbad (N.M.) High School, where her team won three New Mexico High School State Championships during her four years.

She has two sons, Joey and Alex.

Woodard has had three former players play in the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) league. They are Nicole Neuerburg, Kristen Zaleski and Alex Newton. Zaleski, was named the 2005 NPF Most Valuable Player.

CHAMPIONSHIP FORMAT

The 2015 Sun Belt Conference Softball Championship will be conducted over four days utilizing both a singleelimination format as well as a double-elimination format to determine the Sun Belt Conference champion and recipient of the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The first day of the tournament will utilize single-elimination. Beginning on day two the tournament will begin double-elimination. All nine teams who sponsor softball will be eligible to compete for the tournament title.

Only photographers on assignment from an accredited media agency will be issued credentials. Photographers are required to abide by the guidelines set forth by the NCAA on shooting limitations from the sidelines. Those not complying with the guidelines may be removed.

INTERVIEWS Following home games, head coach Ricci Woodard will be made available to media representatives following a brief cooling-off period. Coach Woodard and selected players will remain on site following the colling-off period to address additional requests. Texas State’s locker room will remain closed at all times. Requests for selected players must be submitted to the sports information staff by the final inning, with the exception of games being in doubt as to the outcome in the final inning.
