about
For my final project of my BA (Hons), I was nominated for the RIBA President’s Medal (Bronze). I was awarded The West Yorkshire Society of Architects Prize 2 years running (BA2 & BA3), and have been nominated for the Peter Stead Award for sustainability. I have a passion for high-quality and sustainable design, my ambition is to expand on my knowledge and create designs that shape the future of sustainability in Architecture.

A Sustainable Future
RIBA Bronze Medal Nominated Project typology | Low Carbon Housing location | Camden, London, UK client | Camden Council module | Culture, Context, Place
objectives | To develop an understanding of the consequences and opportunities that lie in our current cultural and social urban condition whilst maintaining a foresight into what and how architecture can provide a positive impact to the environment.
inspiration | In the context of London [Camden] that is currently in a housing crisis, I saw an opportunity to create social and affordable housing that adds to it environment. Expanding green spaces, creating green space and creating high quality housing by adopting passivhaus design principals. Constructed using modular construction to ensure the future use of the site and minimise embodied and operational carbon.
A separate, more detailed book can be provided for the further details on this project [on request].
concept one | expanding green
The very first design ambition was to extend the green spaces into my site and create a green link. This also helps in bringing a ‘new life’ to the Grade 1 Listed Church adjacent to the site, by avoiding the erecting of buildings on the eastern boundary [directly in front of the church].
concept two | linking routes
The next design decision was to reinforce the created green link by also linking cycle and pedestrian routes along the established green link. This will make for better movement along green spaces from Lismore circus gardens [park] to the north, and Queens Crescent to the south.
Linked Pedestrian Route Junction
Linked Cycle Route Junction
concept three | main vehicle access
The main vehicle access point will make use of an already existing ‘turn in’ point where the road has already been constructed to go into the site [make use of the existing]. It would be most logical to have the main vehicle access point from Vicars Road, however, if this was done, the road would be uses as a bypass from 2 main primary roads [north & south] and would result in busy traffic build up through the site [no-one wants busy traffic outisde their front door].

Escape
typology | Small Working Pod
location | Nostell, Wakefield, UK
client | Sara Nesteruk, Graphic Designer
module | Basic principles of design
objectives | An introduction to the basic principles of Architectural design and composition. To develop an understanding of how to design in accordance to a brief/client. And develop understanding of the Architectural design process from brief, concept, sketch, to final design.
inspiration | To escape is to “break free from confinement or control” or “be a form of temporary distraction from reality or routine”. Developing a space/object that allows to ‘escape’ from reality generates focus to be fully present within the existing environment in that moment in time. Developing a space to do this allows for an increase in productivity and relaxes the brain, and creates a space to ‘breathe’ and separate from society and be at one with nature.

This shows how the pod was ‘sunken’ into the terrain of the river banking. This allows the pod and terrace to be almost at the same level of the river, improving the view of occupants, to look out onto the river.

“Journey Through Time”
typology | Museum location | York, UK
client | York City Council
module | Event, Space, Form
Objectives | In this project we must explore the notion of an ‘event’ and the relationship between activities created by an event and the ‘space’ encompassing it. To explore the making of space and an architectural ‘form’ which responds to its notion, through developing the conceptual approach, celebrating the dynamic expressions of the Event, Space and Form.
Inspiration | The inspiration behind this project was to break down a specific urban element, of which was lampposts. By de-constructing and re-constructing this element, the design starts to mould and develop on its own. From deconstructing lampposts and categorizing them into time periods and styles, the event begins to form by self-building a time-line through the different time periods of York history. This time-line is what created the event, by pinpointing specific events throughout York’s history, the space inside directly corresponds to the event. My intention was to create spaces that respond to the emotions felt when standing in that space, and reading about the events that happened during that period in time [atmosphere].

Central Courtyard
Section AA | 1:200
The ‘sunken’ basement sections were set below ground level to no obstruct the view of Cliffords tower which sits directly adjacent to the site boundary. This allows the ‘central courtyard’ space [21st Century - Present day] to have a an attachment to one of Yorks more famous landmarks. And this allows visitors to reflect on the journey they have been on.
