o c l We

Welcome to TJC! I’m Dr. Mike Metke, and it’s my honor to be president of this fine college.

We’re excited to have you on our beautiful campus; and after you’ve spent some time here, we hope you’ll make this your campus, too. During your time here, you’ll get a firsthand look at the many reasons TJC is your best first choice for college. We have more than 120 degree and certificate programs to choose from, including the first Bachelor of Science degree in dental hygiene in the state of Texas; and our award-winning faculty will help you thrive here.

Whether you’re planning to transfer to a four-year institution later on, or whether you’re going right into a high-paying job as soon as you leave TJC, we’ll make sure you have the skills you need to be successful. We have great housing, strong academics and a wonderful Presidential Honors Program. TJC has the top Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society; plus, we have clubs and organizations for every interest. TJC has won 56 national championships in athletics, and we have some of the best fine and performing arts programs you’ll find anywhere. At TJC, you’ll get a true collegiate experience, all at about one-third of the cost of a four-year institution. Wherever you want to go in life, you can get there from right here. TJC has a proven record of helping students reach their full potential. Have a great time at orientation! We look forward to seeing you in the fall!

Dr. Mike Metke, President

Financial Aid

tjc.edu/scholarshipsfinaid

Affordable, high-quality education. TJC awards over $48 million each year in financial aid grants, loans, scholarships, waivers, exemptions and work study to assist students in covering the cost of their education. Most students only think of the FASFA when they think of financial aid, but the financial aid office is here to assist with many other important topics. For information about financial aid requirements, disbursements, refunds, work study opportunities, and much more, please see the numerous topics listed online.

18

How to apply for Federal Financial Aid: • Complete the free application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) at FASFA.GOV and add TJC’s school code: 003648 • Learn about any additional requirements and take care of them as soon as possible • Review and decide on your awards in Apache Access • If you accept loans, complete loan entrance counseling and sign your Master Promissory Note at studentloans.gov

Academic Advising

tjc.edu/advising

>>>

>>

The relationship between students and their academic advisors is one of the most important during college. The advising staff can help students with many tasks, including selecting a major and developing personal degree plans. While academic advisors are organized by academic school, all advisors are trained to advise for general studies or undecided majors.

Office of the Registrar

Successful advising tips:

Need help with registration? >> Looking for your transcript? >> Ready to graduate? >> Want an academic calendar? >>

• Make an appointment at tjc.edu/advising • See an advisor early in the semester - avoid the wait • Speak up and do your research on majors and schools you’d like to transfer to Humanities, Communications & Fine Arts Engineering, Mathematics & Sciences Nursing & Health Science Academic advising center: 2nd floor Rogers Student Center 903-510-2425 Professional & Technical Programs Academic advising office: Pirtle Technology 202 903-510-2347

Core Curriculum

tjc.edu/core

The core curriculum at TJC provides a solid foundation of knowledge and academic skills which will assist you throughout life. Students who successfully complete the TJC core curriculum can transfer that block of courses to any Texas public college or university. Articulation agreements with other Texas colleges and universities mean seamless transfer. TJC core requirements are in three-hour increments. However, some core courses offered, such as mathematics and life and physical sciences, are four-hour classes. Any overflow (extra) hours above the required core of 42 hours will create a minimum 44-hour core, and meet degree requirements.
