Architecture touches our lives every single day, so being able to create environments that stimulate our memory and creativity is what I strive to design. “Good design” needs to be able to tell a story to enrich the user’s experience through the space. This portfolio is intended to express my work through my story as a designer deconstructing process.

detroit, michiganThe Urban Forest Theater was a project created in the Integrative Design Studio. The objective of this project was to create a black box theater for the University of Detroit Mercy’s theater department which can be accessed by the community. The form of this building came from the green roof element which is accessible through the community on the north side of the site. I wanted to create an urban environment while taking into account the Fitzgerald Plan that transforms vacant lots and turns them into gardens.

site analysis The Urban Forest Theater’s site is located across the street from the Livernois entrance of the University of Detroit Mercy. This site acts as a bridge between the university and the Fitzgerald community. Using Michigan as part of the site as well I asked people to tell me what they thought of when they heard the term “Pure Michigan”:

“I capture the Great Lakes.” “Squeaky sand” “Any place with water, clean air” “Craft beer” “Trees and nature and lakes”

dzialdowo, poland- concert hall The site of this project is located in a small town an hour and a half north of Warsaw, Poland. This historic preservation project was an old, worker’s camp during World War II where many people died from a tragic fire. My design approach was based on how we as individuals can deal with historical tragedy and build a better future by analyzing the past, present, and future. Music as an art can help teach everyone about tragedy and life.

exterior site The site design was intended to bring people together through different program. Music was tied in again to fit the theme of the narrative of the concert hall all while bringing people together. The triangulation is continued to show the relationship of time through the three points (past, present, and future).

This study was on the Z-Lot parking structure in the city of Detroit. A parasite form was created in order to pay homage to the Hudson site, which the form overlooks. The interior was composed in order to set views throughout the city. The circulation is also meant to force people to change pace and perspective.

atmospheres These formal studies focused on scale both on the interior and exterior. The dimensionless forms helped me explore different atmospheric environments.

These patterns represent different circulation movements. They were then created into 3-dimensional forms in order to quickly change a 2-dimensional mindset into a 3-dimensional one.

water color During my semester abroad in Warsaw I learned the basics of water color from water color masters. These Polish professors make a living off of their amazing I plan on continuing to experiment with water color because it is a creative medium for visually communicating our ideas. These samples were created in the Warsaw Politechnika in the water color class.
