5th Tynemouth Food Festival Saturday 7th - Sunday 8th May 2016
Tynemouth Priory and Castle Saturday 9am-6pm
Sunday 10am-6pm
OVER 50 FOOD STALLS
Welcome It is with pleasure that we welcome you to the fifth Tynemouth Food Festival organised by the Tynemouth Business Forum in partnership with North Tyneside Council. Last year was the best year yet with just over 13,000 people attending over the weekend despite a very windy start on the Saturday! Thank you for the amazing support. This year, following feedback from visitors and participants we have changed the layout a little and increased the number of street food stalls which will hopefully cut down on the time people have to queue for food. The market street stalls are again all inside a marquee which is boarded and will have access for wheelchairs and buggies. There is again a small admission fee of £3.50 per day but we do feel that with the increase in the programme this year, with even more free entertainment, it will again be fantastic value for money. As well as the usual two days of great local food and drink with market stalls and street food vendors; cookery demonstrations from locally renowned chefs; chocolate tasting sessions with Davenport’s Chocolate; sausage making workshops run by the Northumberland Sausage Company, on the Saturday we also have a host of free live entertainment for the whole family. You will find the programme of events on pages 4 and 5. This year we are pleased to have two butchery master class sessions run by Simon Osborne from Blagdon Farm shop.
JOIN SEA CADETS FOR THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE! Join as a cadet, or volunteer with us. Find your local unit: sea-cadets.org/units
The festival will once again be opened by the Sea Cadets band and on the Sunday they will be accompanied by Harriotte Lane who is Miss Teen Great Britain and the Chronicle’s Young Role Model of the Year. Harriotte will be at the festival on Sunday wearing her gown and crown and is more than happy to pose for photographs with you if you should wish. You can find out more about Harriotte on page 19. The Sea Cadets will be entertaining us throughout the weekend with their band and routines as well as volunteering their time over both days helping with a variety of tasks. To find out more about the Sea Cadets go to their information stand during the festival or see their advert on page2. We are delighted the Sea Cadets are helping us again this year and because they did such an amazing job last year they are our adopted charity for 2016.
We have 60 market stallholders selling a wide range of local and regional artisan produce; a wide selection of street food stalls selling food from around the world to tantalise your taste buds; a food court marquee where you can enjoy your choice of street food along with a selection of drinks from Barca Art Bar; two entertainment marquees where various events will be taking place throughout the weekend including magician sessions, Piccolo workshops, face painting, animal antics and children's crafts; the cream of the region’s culinary talent turning up the heat in a stateof-the-art demo kitchen; another unique experience from Cullercoats Bike and Kayak hire (see page 7) plus free live entertainment throughout the weekend. So much to see, do and taste for all the family! None of this, however, would have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors from the local business community, in particular North Tyneside Council and Geordie Bangers, the enthusiastic involvement of the exhibitors and the amazing support of the local chefs and workshop providers. Particular mention must as always be given to the steering group who have worked tirelessly over the year to ensure that this year’s festival is again a huge success. This group give their time voluntarily and organising the Festival is not an easy task. Finally a big thank you to all of you, for again joining us over the weekend. Enjoy the sights, sounds, aromas and tastes of a celebration of fine food, drink and culinary skills. We would love to hear your views on this year’s event so please leave your comments on our facebook page or twitter @tynemouthfoodfest. We hope you enjoy yourselves and look forward to seeing you again next year. Sally Craigen, Chair,Tynemouth Business Forum and Food Festival Committee
