What is The NOW Initiative? As you may have noticed, God is up to some incredible things at The Grove Church. We’re seeing hundreds of commitments to faith in Christ each year. In 2015 we baptized 157 people. We’ve connected over 500 in LifeGroups and our attendance has increased over 20% in the last year alone. In fact our average Sunday attendance is almost 1200 every Sunday! The reality is we’re running out of room. From the GroveKids wing to seating in our auditorium to parking spaces, we need to expand our facilities and maximize our property. And before we are out of space, now is the time to step up in faith. So, the leadership team has been praying, discussing, and meeting with architects to come up with the best use of our downtown property. And now that we have a Master Plan it’s time to acquire the funds and begin the work. That’s where The Now Initiative comes in – asking everyone to give generously and raise a portion of the needed funds. So yes, The Now Initiative is a giving campaign. But ultimately it’s about making room for other families to enjoy God’s blessing and what He’s doing at The Grove Church.

THE NOW INITIATIVE
A Note from Pastor Nik: Personally I see life through the lens of fulfilling the Great Commission (“Go make disciples everywhere.” -Matthew 28:19). Since they were some of Jesus’ “famous last words” I think he wanted us to give special focus to fulfilling his request. So, I’m motivated to see all of us involved in The Now Initiative, because it takes all of us to do our part in making disciples. And by the end we’ll have created more space to bring our neighbors, friends, co-workers, and family members and watch them become disciples, too. So, here we go!

THE NOW INITIATIVE
OUR CHURCH HISTORY
OUR CHURCH NOW
The Grove Church began in 1932, which means we’re 84 years old this year. Of course we’ve had a few different names in that time, but we’ve been the same church with the same desire to help people see Jesus Christ from the beginning. In fact if you look at meeting minutes from our first Annual Business Meeting, the leaders were thinking about how to reach young people by voting to approve a “young people’s leader” and “assistant young people’s leader” from the very beginning. This was very forward thinking considering the word teenager didn’t officially exist and children went from being kids to adults without a life-stage in between.
The Grove Church has grown substantially in the last seven years. When the new leadership started there was one Sunday service with just under 300 attending and just one child on average in the nursery on Sundays. Today we have four services and an average attendance of almost 1200 every Sunday. We are currently working on adding a 5th Sunday service. And in a community filled with young families we have almost 300 kids in our GroveKids ministry every week.
By 1941 the church was meeting in a renovated funeral home on 4th and Delta (near where the Dairy Queen is now) and was known for its large children’s ministry. In the 1960s the property we’re on now was purchased and the first phase of the building was built (currently the auditorium and GroveKids wing). In the 1970s the north wing was added for a “large gathering hall” and classrooms. In the 1980s the office wing was built and dedicated and that would be the last time anything was added to the facilities at 4705.
The rapport we’ve built in the community is widespread and incredibly positive through our partnership with the City of Marysville, the Marysville Food Bank, the Marysville School District, the Toy Store, and other churches. It’s even grown into the surrounding communities including Tulalip, Everett, Lake Stevens, Arlington, and Stanwood with our annual iHeart outreach. Fun fact: Now that we enjoy a relationship with these groups, some of them have reached out to us for help as they plan events or organize ways to improve their communities. www.grovech.org/now

OUR CHURCH FUTURE In the next three years (2016 - 2019) the goal is to renovate and expand our building’s footprint substantially using our Master Plan. This will be done in three phases and over double our seating capacity in a new auditorium (to 900+ seats), provide almost twice the parking, create a GroveKids space for 600+ kids, offer new adult bathrooms and a larger lobby. And by 2020 the vision will be to plant Grove Church campuses/churches in our surrounding communities and dream for the greater Snohomish County area to realize God’s love in Christ. 8

THE NOW INITIATIVE
PHASE ONE
The most common demographic in our communities is the young family. And since our greatest lid for growth already is kids’ space, the first phase of renovation will be our North Wing. This wing has great square footage but is outdated and needs some space-swapping to meet the needs of our GroveKids Ministry. Once the north wing is finished, GroveKids will be able to move in and grow beyond 600 kids. Also included in this phase of renovation will be new bathrooms for adults and fire sprinklers (required by the fire department) in the whole building. www.grovech.org/now
11
PHASE TWO
Did you know that decades ago churches were built without any thought to flow before and after services? They had classrooms, fellowship halls, auditoriums, hallways, even portables. But no lobby. In today’s church it’s great to see people hanging around before and after services, talking, meeting one another, enjoying a cup of coffee. It’s what we see at The Grove Church and a culture we LOVE! So as we grow our lobby will grow, too. And of course we’ll fix our “cobblestone” parking lots and have more designated, paved parking for your family.
12
THE NOW INITIATIVE
PHASE THREE
As you know we currently have 4 Sunday services and are looking to add a 5th service in 2016. That way we have room for growth … for now. But we all know there comes a point where adding service times isn’t going to fix a problem. Having a super early service or afternoon services doesn’t work. What we need are empty seats during optimal times. So the plan is to build a new auditorium where the current GroveKids wing is now. It will be a 900+ seat space with room in any service for significant growth. The auditorium size fits well with the number of future parking spaces, the lobby square footage, and the amount of GroveKids space. www.grovech.org/now

How Can The vision be fulfilled? Now that you’ve heard about the Master Plan you’re probably asking, “How are we paying for all of this?” Great question! The leadership team has been working hard for the past couple years on a few fronts to handle the costs. Here are the ways:

HOW DO I GET INVOLVED? 16
THE NOW INITIATIVE
There are various ways to give toward The Now Initiative. First, if you’re thinking a monthly donation works for you, included with this brochure is a pledge card with a breakdown of example amounts and their totals. Second, fill out a pledge card and give a lump sum instead of monthly amounts. This can be done at the beginning of a campaign or sometime during the 24 months. Either way is great! Finally, there are creative ways to get involved, too. In the past we’ve received stocks, jewelery and other valuables. In today’s world people have sold items on Ebay or Craigslist and donated the proceeds. And some have given a portion of an inheritance they received during similar initiatives. There are many ways for each of us to get involved! Let’s all pray and do what we believe God would ask us to do to reach our goal.
PLEDGE MONTHLY Grab a pledge card and prayerfully consider what God wants you to give.
BIG GIFT Some people prefer to give a lump sum at the beginning or during the campaign.
GET CREATIVE Consider a yard sale or selling things on Craigslist or Ebay. Whatever it is, have fun!
BREAKDOWN OF THE GOALS. To answer how we meet the goal of $1,000,000 here are a few ways to think about it. First, if 500 people each gave $2,000 over the 24 months that would do it. That’s less than $85 per month. Simple, right?! But we all know some can do more, some should do less. The main point is, no individual should do it all, but we all should do something. As an example, below is another way to break down how to meet the goal.

A GIVING STORY God continually shows himself present in the lives of my family through our giving. It is He who always provides for us. Recently He blessed my family with a job for my husband. After tithing 10% with the new job, he received a raise and another job offer that almost doubled his previous pay. We will forever give thanks to our Lord for His provisions and that we will never have to go without. He is so good.

THE NOW INITIATIVE
A FINAL WORD Thank you for taking the time to hear the vision, walk through the details, and consider your involvement. We’re taking some exciting steps in the next couple years. Our unity, combined prayers, and involvement is crucial. As we’ve said through our Code: “We are the church and we exist for the world.” Let’s not sit back and wait for others to act. The Grove Church is being asked to rise up, sacrifice, and make room for others in our communities who don’t yet know Christ. And as we do, we will see God prove himself faithful to us individually and as a church together. These are great days. And now is the time.
