T.J. is the Swiss Army knife of humans. He’s been a standout soccer player, wrestler and swimmer. He’s an industrial engineer. He started his own company and has plans to own about 40 more. Realizing a sport based on three skill sets was just up his alley, he committed to triathlons in 2003, placing second in his age group at the World’s Qualifier. Since then, he has steadily improved, taking 2nd in three Ironman races. Like you’d expect from a guy who takes on challenges like other people eat potato chips, T.J. likes to race one way — all out and out front.

If you’re not sure who John is, just keep your eyes on the water, because, chances are, he’ll be the first one out. In 2009, he took first in the swim portion at the World Ironman Championships in Kona. He took the 2001 NCAA national title while swimming for Auburn and swam on Team USA for four years. He entered the Triathlon World after just missing a spot on the 2008 Olympic Swim Team. A native Hawaiian, John recently won the 2010 Honolulu Triathlon. The triathlon world is living in fear as he steadily improves his run and bike performances.

Sarah Haskins is already amazing and getting better every second. Everyone following the sport is predicting her as an Olympic favorite in 2012. Sure, it’s a lot of pressure, but Sarah has found a really good way of dealing with it — by winning. She recently took number one at the 2010 Life Time Fitness Triathlon and was selected to the Gold Group in the Dextro Energy ITU World Championship Series. A high school swimmer and runner, she completed her first triathlon in 2003. The next year, she was accepted to the Resident Triathlon Team at the U.S. Olympic Training Center, where she met her husband, triathlete Nate Kortuem. (TYR is considering pre-signing any children they might have.)

We’re pretty certain that Magali is the only accomplished violinist who has been named “Ironman 70.3 Triathlete of the Year” by Triathlete Magazine. This was in 2009, when she took third in the Ironman 70.3 Timberman, second in Calgary, and then won the 70.3 Boise (by shaving 24 minutes off her previous year’s performance!). She has been a competitive skier and snowboarder and has also done motocross. How much natural talent does Magali bring to triathlons? She became Canadian University Champion in 2004, her first year racing. Magali is finishing a master’s degree in biomechanics. We recently voted her most likely to take over the company.

Designed to fit a wide range of facial types and sizes with comfort being a key attribute. Can be used for both training and racing. FEATURES

Low profile lenses, comfort gaskets, split headstraps, anti-fog and UV protection.

ABILITY

SOFTNESS

Ability measures a swimmers skill level. Beginner swimmers will have a lower value. Expert swimmers will have a higher rating. For example, TYR athlete Matt Grevers (3-time Olympic Medalist) would have an expert rating of 10 in the ability category.

SIZE

Softness measures the comfort level of the area that comes in contact with a swimmers face. Commonly, this area would be the gasket, although some goggles do not have a gasket. As a general rule, the softer the gasket the higher the Smart Chart value.

SIGHT

Size measures the frame width of the goggle or mask and how that frame fits on a swimmers face. Youth goggles will have a lower value, while larger goggles and masks will have a higher rating point.

This category measures the peripheral vision range of each goggle or mask. As a general rule, goggles or mask with unobstructed side viewing areas provide greater peripheral vision and have a higher value.
