The Residents Portraits Marianna Dobkowska Witek Orski

“Approaching portrait photography as primarily a special kind of meeting between two people, we assume photographers will be able to strike up a relationship and collaborate with the portrayed artists. Our goal is to capture images of residents at this particular moment in their stay in Warsaw, hinging on a creative meeting of personalities on both sides of the lens. The work on these portraits may become a starting point for future collaborations, mutual inspiration, and expansion of their network of contacts within the global artistic community”. The Residents. Portraits is a long-term initiative aimed at creating a platform for cooperation between artists-in-residence at U–jazdowski and the most interesting Polish photographers of the younger generation, active in the field of visual arts. The basic outcome of this cooperation will be an original series of portraits of the residents taken by invited photographers. The project was initiated by Marianna Dobkowska, the curator of U–jazdowski residencies, and artist Witek Orski. The first invited photographer was Karolina Zajączkowska, who captured the 2018 autumn residents. Portraits of artists who lived and worked at the Ujazdowski Castle in spring and summer 2019 were taken by Dawid Misiorny. Curators who participated in Re–Directing: East residencies in summer 2019 were portrayed by Weronika Ławniczak. This issue features photographs made by Witek Orski. The next edition of the project includes Katarzyna Szugajew.
