Camtasia Studio 8 Training Manual Camtasia is a piece of software that allows you to easily capture everything on your computer screen, edit it, and produce polished video or audio clips, which you can put on the Web, iPod, iPhone, You Tube, or burn on a CD or DVD. You can also add audio to a PowerPoint presentation, produce this enhanced presentation as a video (optionally using Flash), and upload it to a Blackboard online course.
Getting Started
Write an outline or script for your recording to save time and avoid mistakes. Get your computer ready for recording Camtasia video o Minimum Computer Requirements – MS Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 (not for Mac yet) – 1.5 GHz processor (3.0 GHz for PowerPoint and Camera Recordings) – 1 GB RAM (2.0 GB recommended) – 200 MB of disk space for installation – Display dimensions of 1024x768 or greater • Other Equipment Requirements – Sound card, speakers and a microphone (if you want to record sound with the video, a USB Microphone is recommended because it uses less resources and records better quality audio) – Web camera to record video of yourself – QuickTime 7.2 or later to produce iPod audio files • Clean your computer desktop – Close the programs that you will not use during the recording – Launch the application that you are going to use for the recording (e.g. Excel, MS Word, or other applications )

Camtasia Studio 8 Welcome Window The Welcome Window contains all the recording tools. It also includes the media import tool and a list of the projects you have been working on. You can start a recording and project by clicking any of the choices.

To launch the recorder: – Click one of the recording tools. To create a video with existing media files – Click Import media To continue with a Camtasia project you worked on before – Select the project from the Recent projects list. Important Note: Camtasia File location – Camtasia creates a default folder in My Documents on your computer when installing the software. It keeps all the Camtasia files at the same location.
You do not need to launch any of the recorders on the Welcome window. You can choose not to see this window by unchecking the box for Show this dialog at startup, and clicking Close. This will start Camtasia Studio without the window the next time you open it.

The Timeline Elements Timeline toolbar – Zoom in/out, undo, redo, cut, copy, paste, split Time/Duration – Tracks the video time by hours : minutes : seconds ; frames (30 frames per second) Playhead – Marks the current point in the video. The green and red parts can be moved to select a portion of the video. Tracks – This shows the various video, audio, and effects/animation clips and how they overlap one another. Hide or Show Quiz or Marker View – This button hides or shows markers or quizzes in the video project.

Timeline Tool Bar Icon
Description Undo – Will undo the last action in succession. This is an unlimited undo feature. Redo – Will redo the last action in succession. This is an unlimited redo feature. Cut Selection – Cuts a selection from the timeline. The cut portion can be pasted on the timeline. Copy – Copies the selection or element to the Clipboard. Paste – Pastes the contents of the Clipboard on the timeline. Split – Splits a clip at the position of the playhead. Zoom in on the timeline. Zoom out on the timeline. Fully zoomed out, this shows the entire timeline. To change the zoom level, click the zoom icons or grab the zoom slider and drag in either direction.

Description Green Playhead (In point): Drag the green playhead to any place on the timeline to start the selection. Red Playhead (Out point): Drag the red playhead to a point on the timeline to end the selection. Gray Playhead: Double-click the gray playhead to bring the two points together.

Timeline Track Lock When you create a video clip, whether a desktop or a PowerPoint recording, the video tracks are synchronized with their audio tracks in the timeline. Any changes you make to tracks on the timeline will affect all unlocked tracks. If you want to edit only the audio portion of video (or the other way around), you can click the Track Lock button for each track that you do not want to edit. The Track Lock button will lock a track, protecting it from most changes made to the other tracks. Locked tracks cannot be edited. Unlocked tracks can be edited. To unlock a locked track, click the Track Lock button for that track.
Separating Audio and Video If you import video files that have audio in them and you need to edit the video or audio separately, you can separate the two. 1. Right click the video track. 2. Click Separate video and audio. The audio will be moved to a new track. You can then lock the track you do not want to edit and work on the other one.

Recording Screen Activities To record screen activities with audio narration, click the Record the screen button on the Welcome window or in Camtasia Studio to bring up the Recorder.

Step 1: Open the application you want to record (e.g. MS Word, Excel, Visio, Google Map) – You need to open the application you will use for your recording, unless you want to teach how to find and open the program.

Step 2: Select Screen capture area. – Full screen (Default). There are green dash lines along the outside border of the screen to indicate the area to be recorded. – To Customize the capture area, choose one of the following methods: • Click Custom. This will produce a default selection area. You can manually resize this area by dragging the “handles” (the square dots) of the selection. • Click the drop down menu for Custom (the arrow button) and then select one of the dimensions from the preset list. • Click the drop down menu for Custom and then click Select area to record. • Select the area you want to record. • If you want to select an application, such as MS Word, hover your cursor over the application to select it (your selected area should be highlighted in a green box), and then click the area to lock to the application. • If a portion of the area you want to record is not included in the selection: • Click the Lock button beside the dimensions to unlink the aspect ratio of the width and height. This allows you to change the proportions of the selection. • Drag the handles to resize the recording window to make sure that all the parts of the application you want to record are visible. • Leaving the dimensions linked allows to the aspect ratio of your recording area to stay intact when you produce your final video. It will match more common screen sizes and give you a more consistent result when you edit clips together.

Step 3: Configure the Webcam settings. – If you have a webcam enabled, you can record the webcam video. Click the Webcam button to activate the webcam. 7

If the webcam is on, you will see the video in a window beside the Webcam button. The webcam video will create an additional track on the timeline and a window in the video presentation.

Step 4: Select a microphone/audio input and configure the audio settings. – The audio is enabled by default. – Click the drop-down menu (the arrow) next to the Audio setting. – Select one of the audio input sources (You may have more than one microphone if you have a microphone and a Webcam.) – Start talking and observe the Input Level of the audio. This is shown in green on the Audio Input bar. – Select a different audio input source from the drop-down menu if there is no audio input when you are talking. – The system audio is turned on by default. This records system sounds, such as clicks and alerts, and will create an additional track on the timeline. Click Record system audio to remove the check mark.

Step 5: Start recording – Click the “REC” button or Press the “F9” key on the computer keyboard to start recording. – A timer will count down for 3 seconds, and then the recording will start.

Step 6: Pause or Stop recording – Click the “Restart” or “Pause” or “Stop” button on the Camtasia Recorder.

Press the “F10” key to stop recording. The preview window will come up immediately for your view. You can save and edit, delete, or produce the video clip by clicking the corresponding buttons.
Step 7: Preview the recorded clip and Save and Edit, Produce, or Delete it – As soon as you stop the recording, the preview Window pops up and runs the clip you have just recorded. – After reviewing the recorded clip, you can save and edit, produce, or delete it by clicking the corresponding buttons at the bottom of the screen.
Note: Unless you select a different location, the recorded file will be saved in the Camtasia Studio folder in My Documents. The saved file has the file extension .camrec. This is a special video file that will only work with Camtasia Studio. •

We recommend using the Web preset.

o If you enter custom dimensions in the Width and Height boxes, be sure to leave the check box for Keep aspect ratio selected. This will keep the video dimensions at standard ratios, making the editing more seamless. o Click OK to select the dimensions.
• Step 4: The saved file will be automatically put in the Clip Bin in Camtasia Studio, and also placed in the timeline and is ready for editing.
Producing a Screen Recording • Step 1: Click Produce. o Camtasia prompts you to save your recording. • Step 2: Select the destination folder for the video file and click Save. o Camtasia saves video clips with the extension .camrec. This is a special video file that will only work with Camtasia Studio.
o The default save location is the Camtasia Studio folder in My Documents. o Be careful about saving Camtasia files to a network drive. Sometimes Camtasia will not properly produce files on a network drive.
• Step 3: The Camtasia Studio Production Wizard opens. o Click one of the presets on the drop down menu. o We suggest that you select the setting for MP4 only (up to 720 p). o Click Next. • Step 4: Enter the name of the final product in the Production name box. • • • •
Step 5: Make sure the file will be saved at the location you want. Click the Save As button (the folder) to browse folders. Step 6: If you choose to produce the file with a player or using Flash, select the check box for Organize produced files into sub-folders. This will keep all the Flash-related files you need together. Step 7: Click Finish. Camtasia will start rendering the project. Step 8: Click Finish on the Production Results window. The Camtasia preview window will open and play the video, so you can review your finished product.
Saving a Project Camtasia Studio videos are edited in project files (.camproj). After you record an initial video clip for a project, be sure to save the project, under File > Save project. Be sure to save your project file every time you make changes to it. Projects are saved by default to the Camtasia Studio folder in My Documents. Be careful about saving projects to network drives, as Camtasia will not always produce the file from a network drive. (However, you can make a backup copy of the files on your network drive.)

Recording PowerPoint Presentations Camtasia allows you to record PowerPoint presentations as videos, adding the audio narration in the process. •
Step 1: Open a PowerPoint File – Open PowerPoint Or Click the drop-down arrow for Record the Screen and then click Record PowerPoint Or if you are in Camtasia Studio, click Tools > Record PowerPoint. – Find the PowerPoint file that you want to record audio for and open it.

Step 2: Enable Camtasia Recorder – Click the Add-Ins tab on the PowerPoint ribbon. You should see the toolbar for recording PowerPoint presentations, as the screen capture shows below.
Note: If you do not see the Add-in Toolbar, you need to enable it by going to Camtasia Studio, clicking Tools > Options > PowerPoint, selecting the Enable PowerPoint Addin check box, and clicking OK. –
This following table explains the function of each of the buttons on the Add-In Toolbars. Buttons
Function Record – Click this button to start recording your PowerPoint presentation. Microphone- It indicates that you can record audio with a microphone. It does nothing when clicking it if you have microphone enabled for recording. Camera- It indicates that you can record the Web camera capture during the presentation if you have a webcam attached to your computer. Camera Preview – Click this button to preview what the webcam will record, so you can adjust position or lighting if necessary. Recording Options- Click this button to bring up the Options window so that you can adjust recording settings. Help – Click this button to view videos or documents on how to record PowerPoint presentations. 11

Step 3: Configure your audio settings in PowerPoint – The settings for the PowerPoint add-in are separate from the settings for recording the screen. Make sure your audio is properly set up to work with the PowerPoint recording. – Click the Recording Options button on the toolbar. – Select the audio source for your microphone, from the drop-down menu in the Video and Audio section of the Options. You should see green on the volume bar, if you have the correct audio source selected. – Adjust the Volume slider until you can see the green volume level bar fill about halfway when you are talking in the microphone. – Clear the Capture system audio check box if you do not want system sounds recorded. – Click OK. Step 4: Record a PowerPoint presentation with audio – Click the Record (Red) button on the Add-In Toolbars. The PowerPoint Slide Show will begin to run. The PowerPoint recording will be in the Pause state. This is the default setting. You may change it in the Recording Options window. We suggest that you use this default setting because it allows you check if your audio is working and adjust the volume level. It also reminds you about the hot keys. – The slide show will always begin on slide 1. Advance through the presentation if necessary.

Click “Click to begin recording” or press CTRL + SHIFT + F9 to start recording. You can record your audio for each slide. Speak and click to advance the PowerPoint slides as you would normally do in the classroom using this PowerPoint presentation. Click CTRL + SHIFT + F10 or ESC to stop the recording. Click Continue recording to resume recording A glitch in this setting causes the PowerPoint presentation Slide Show view to close. However, Camtasia Studio will continue to record the screen. Click Stop recording to Produce or Edit the recording Camtasia will prompt you to save the recording. Select the destination folder for the video file and click Save. Camtasia saves video clips with the extension .camrec. This is a special video file that will only work with Camtasia Studio. The default save location is the Camtasia Studio folder in My Documents.

Editing Recorded PowerPoint Presentations After you click Stop recording: • Step 1: Click the option button for Edit your recording. • Step 2: Click OK. • Step 3: Choose the video dimensions – Note: Any time a media file is placed on the timeline for the first time, the Editing Dimensions window will come up. – Click the down arrow on the Editing Dimensions window to display a list of presets of recommended video dimensions, and select the preset for your video. We recommend using the Web preset. – Click OK. – If the presentation has slide notes, Camtasia will ask if you want to import them as captions. – Camtasia automatically puts your recording in the Camtasia Studio Clip Bin and also places it on the timeline.

Step 4: Adjust the Preview Window view. – Click the Preview Window scale to choose your viewing preference, toggle between shrink to fit or view it in 100 % scale.

Step 5: Save the project. – You need to save the project at this point. The Camtasia project will be saved with the extension of .camproj. – Note: The camproj file is different from the recording file, which has the extension of .camrec. The camproj file holds all the references of the media files used in the project. When you edit a video clip in the project, the source file (camrec, AVI, etc.) won’t be changed; all the changes are saved in the .camproj file.

Step 6: Enhance audio of the PowerPoint presentation recording. – Remove unwanted or background noises by clicking the Audio button. • Expand the Selected media properties section, if necessary to see all the audio editing features. • Select the Enable noise removal check box. Listen to the improved the audio quality. If you are not happy with the result, uncheck the box to have your original audio back. • Click Advanced to see more features, including ways to remove other kinds of audio noise. – Click Volume down or Volume up to enhance the audio on the timeline.

Step 7: Work with the Markers on the timeline in the PowerPoint presentation recording. Note: When the PowerPoint presentation recording is added to the timeline, Camtasia automatically creates a marker for each slide. These markers are very useful. They indicate when a new slide begins. The markers on the timeline are needed if you want to create a table of contents for your presentation, which allows students quickly navigate the slides and access the specific content quickly. You can also manually add markers on the timeline. The markers show up as small green arrows. However, you can view the marker names and work with the markers by showing Marker view: – –

To change the name of the marker, right-click the marker and then click Rename. Overtype the new name of the marker. Double-click a marker to move the playhead to that point in the video. You can split the video into two clips, using the markers. • When the playhead is on a marker, right-click the playhead and then click Split all. The video clip will be divided at the point of the marker. • You can split video at all the markers by clicking Edit > Markers > Split at all markers
Now each slide in the presentation is a separate clip. You can move the slides around and insert additional information or transitions between each slide. Remove a marker by clicking the marker and pressing the Delete key on the computer keyboard. You can also right-click a marker and then click Delete.

Select MP 4, which includes Flash and HTML 5. These outputs which work well for putting video on the Web and in your Blackboard course. It also allows you to create a table of contents for your PowerPoint presentation video.

Click the Size tab and make sure the Embed size is the same or no bigger than the Video size. (You should get the best results if they are the same size.)

Click the Video settings tab. Set the quality for the video. • Click Quality from the Encoding mode drop-down list. This option will allow the bitrate to vary as needed to maintain a standard of quality. Camtasia strongly recommends using this option. • OR Click Bitrate from the Encoding mode drop-down list. You can set the bitrate from 800 -2000 kbps. Increasing the bitrate will increase the file size. Decreasing it can reduce video quality.

Recording Audio •
Step 1: Click Tools on the menu and then click Voice Narration to open the audio recording window o You can also click Voice Narration from the Task Tabs, just above the timeline. If it is not on the visible Task Tabs, click More and select it from the list.

Select or add an audio track. o Use the Insert Track button (the “plus” button) to add a new track. o Click the track to select it. o Make sure other tracks are locked, so audio will not be added to them. Click Audio Setup wizard to select the input device (microphone) and adjust your audio level, if necessary.

o The Audio Setup Wizard also has an Auto-Adjust Volume option that will change your audio input levels, based on the volume of input to your microphone. Click the “Start Recording” button.
Click the Stop Recording button after you finish your recording. The Save Narration As dialog box pops up. We suggest that you save the file in the Camtasia Studio folder in your Documents, so your media files are all together. Listen to your audio recording by clicking the Play button on the preview window. Camtasia will put the audio file in the Clip Bin of your Camtasia Studio project. You may want to save this clip in the Library for future use. o In the Clip Bin, right-click the clip. o Click Add to Library.

Recording Camera Video If you have a webcam, you can record camera video in Camtasia. Make sure that your webcam works before starting to record. Add a recorded camera clip
Create a personal clip with camera recording o Click Tools and then click Record camera… OR click More on the on the Add section of the Task Tabs. o Click the camera you want to use from the drop-down list, if you have more than one camera connected to the computer. o Adjust the camera to the right position. o Make sure the Record audio check box is selected If you have audio clips on the timeline, you may want to mute the speaker by check the Mute speaker box. o Click Start recording. o Click the Stop Recording button when you are done. It will bring up the Save Video Capture As dialog box asking you to save the recording. This file will be saved as a Windows Media Video file (.wmv). o The video clip will be displayed in the Clip Bin and added to the timeline as a separate track.

Creating Videos with Import Media Import Media allows you to import files (video, graphics, photos, and audio) to the Clip Bin.
Step 1: Click the Import Media button, just above the Clip Bin. The Open file dialog box comes up. Select files that you want to import into Camtasia Studio for editing and producing. Step 2: Drag video or graphic files to the video track(s) in the timeline. o When you add the first media file to the timeline, Camtasia will ask you to specify the video setting. You can choose one from the Presets in the drop-down list. Step 3: Drag the audio files (clips or background music) to the audio track(s) in the timeline. Step 4: Drag any additional media files you need to the timeline. o When you drag a second video, image, or audio file to a track in the timeline, Camtasia Studio will position it after the initial file in that track. You can drag the file to wherever you need it in the timeline. Step 5: Play the video in the Preview window.
Separate Video and Audio: If you want to put the audio into a video track that also contains audio, you need to separate the video and audio into two tracks, so you can add your audio file to the audio track. o Right-click the video file in the timeline. o Click Separate video and audio. o Drag the audio file into the audio track.

Editing Videos •
Enhance the Audio (The audio enhancements will apply to all audio on the timeline, not to a selection or individual clip) Even out volume levels o Select the check box for Enable volume leveling. o Select a setting in the Volume variation drop-down box. o The volume leveling occurs immediately. Background noise removal o Select the check box for Enable noise removal. o Click Advanced to see the options. Adjust the slider to control the sensitivity to audio noise (static, etc.). If the noise removal causes the overall audio to degrade, adjust this setting. Click Auto noise training to have the editor automatically remove noise. The editor uses a moment of silence to determine what kind of noise to remove. Manually train the system to remove noise. Select a region of audio with noise but no voice narration, music, or other produced sound. Click Manual noise training. Select the check box for Remove clipping to remove audio distortion caused by excessive volume. Select the check box for Remove clicks to remove noises that sound like clicks. Adjust the Click sensitivity slider to fine tune the system to remove clicks.

Add Zoom-n-Pan (Smart focus) This feature allows you to zoom in on a part of the screen and pan the zoom to other parts of the screen. Zooms are a kind of visual animation in Camtasia Studio 8. Manually add and manage zooms and pans. o Click the Zoom-n-Pan tab to bring up the Zoom-n-Pan editing window. o Move the playhead to the point in the video that you want to zoom in on. o In the Zoom-n-Pan tab window, drag the zoom frame to the right location. o Drag the scale slider to adjust the size of the zoom frame OR o Resize the zoom frame with the handles (the large circles on the frame). o Adjust the zoom duration by dragging the duration length on the timeline.

Zoom out to full screen view o Move the playhead to the point in the video that you want to zoom out. o Click the Scale media to fit entire canvas button (the button with four arrows). Delete a Zoom-n-Pan o Right-click the zoom-n-pan on the timeline, and click Delete OR o Click zoom-n-pan on the timeline and press DELETE on the keyboard. To delete all the zooms (and other visual animations), right-click a zoom in the timeline, and then click Delete all visual animations on media. o To manually apply SmartFocus to a clip Select the .camrec clips to which you want to add zooms and pans. Click Apply SmartFocus to selected clips. o To apply SmartFocus to all clips on the timeline Click Apply SmartFocus to timeline. o To add SmartFocus to all clips that are added to the project. Select the check box for Apply SmartFocus to clips added to use SmartFocus with the zoom. •
Add Callouts: Use graphics to draw attention to details on your video o Callouts can point to objects, highlight parts of the screen, or blur everything in the screen except a key part. Step 1: Create a Callout o Click on the timeline where you want to place a call out (the playhead should move to that point). o Click the Add Callouts button. (You can also click one of the callouts in the menu.) o Click callout you want from the menu of callouts. Use the arrow buttons to scroll up and down the menu to see all the options for callouts.

Edit Callouts o Double-click a callout in the timeline. o Change the callout type by selecting a new one from the menu. o Use the Fade in and Fade out sliders to set the length of how the callout will appear and disappear. o You can adjust the position of the callout on the timeline by dragging it. o You can extend or shorten the length of the callout’s appearance by dragging either end of the callout. Delete Callouts o To delete a callout, double-click the callout on the timeline and click Remove callout.
Add Transitions between clips • Add a transition. o Click the Transitions tab. A list of various visual effects for frame transition will appear. o Double-click a transition and the preview window will display the visual effect of the transition. o Drag a transition you like to the arrow between two clips on the timeline o Review the video in the preview window after you choose all your transitions between the images. • Delete Transitions o Select the transition on the timeline and press the DELETE key OR o Right-click the transition and then click Delete. Note: Lock your audio tracks before adding the transitions. Otherwise the audio clips may be cut at the points of the transition. However, Camtasia Studio 8 is better about managing audio clips with transitions.

Add captions (Use caption for people with hearing-impairments for ADA compliance or for international audiences) o Camtasia Studio 8 includes an ADA compliancy mode. By default all the closed captions are set to ADA compliance in the produced videos, which includes font size, caption alignment, and number of words per line. Speech-to-text – Converts speech in the audio to text. However, accuracy is limited. Sync with script – Syncs captions from text from a script with the video. Add manually – Manually type captions for each section of the video. Import and Export – Use captions from one video with another. o Creating the captions Open your video narration script file Click the “More” button, and then click Captions on the drop-down menu. Creating captions manually Click a point/frame on the timeline where you want to place the caption. Click Add caption media. Paste the script to the script text box. Dragging the ends of the caption in the timeline, resize it to fit the portion of the video in which you want to display it. Repeat the process for each new caption.

Highlight and copy the text of the script. Click the text box (“Click to paste script or add caption…”) Paste the text into the text box. The first three lines of text will display in black. The rest will be in red. Click the Sync captions button. A window with information about syncing captions will appear. Click Continue to begin syncing the captions. The video will begin playing. Click the first word in red when you hear it in the audio narration to sync the audio script with the audio. Repeat the process until the end of the audio. If you increase the characters per line, the text font size will decrease. If you stop the player and then click Sync captions again, the system will ask if you want to start at the current position of the playhead or from the beginning. Any existing captions will be replace with your new sections. o ADA compliance Captions are limited to 3 lines. You can change the size of the font to increase or decrease the number of characters per line. You can also alter the color and font type/face. However, if your changes cause the captions to fall outside of ADA compliant standards, the “ADA Compliant” button in the top right will turn from blue to gray. To revert back to the ADA Compliant standards, click ADA Compliant. o Caption positions Caption positions in the video are controlled when you produce the video. Under the Custom Production Settings for MP4 Flash/HTML 5 Player, under Options, select the option from the Caption type drop-down menu. Closed captions can be turned on and off in the player. o Delete a Caption: Right-click the caption on the timeline and then click Delete. You can also right-click a caption timestamp in the Captions window and then click Delete all captions.

Add a quiz or a survey • Step 1: Create a quiz or survey in Camtasia Studio timeline o To add a quiz to your video, you have to produce the video as an MP4 file with a player. o Click a location on the timeline where you want to place a quiz o Click the Quizzing tab (or the option on the More drop-down menu). o Click Add quiz. o Type a name for the quiz. o Add a question to a selected quiz or survey Click the question from the list of Questions. Select a question type (Multiple choice, fill in the blank and short answer [no score]) Type your question and answers in the appropriate boxes. After typing an answer on the last line (<Type an answer choice here>), press ENTER to add another answer choice. Select the check box for the correct answer. Click Add question to add an additional question to the quiz.
o To preview the quiz or survey, click the Preview button. Step 2: Produce the video with a quiz or survey and report the scores. o You have to produce the video as an MP4 file with a player to make the quiz work. o Click Produce and Share. o Choose Custom production settings o Click Next. o Click the option button for MP4 – Flash / HTML 5 player. o Click Next. 34

o On the Flash / HTML 5 Options screen, on the Options tab, make sure the check box for Quizzing is selected. o Click Next. o Make sure the Embed Video into HTML check box is selected. o Click Next again. o Click the option button for the quiz reporting you want to use. (SCORM options are not currently used at UAFS.) If you choose the e-mail version, enter your e-mail address in the appropriate text boxes. Make sure the e-mail is correct, as it cannot be changed in the produced video file. (You would have to reproduce the project.) Select the option button to determine whether the students identify themselves or take the quiz anonymously. o Make sure all the video production settings are set the way you want: Name the production file. Select the destination folder for the production. o Click Finish.

Producing Videos After you have recorded and edited your video, you will need to produce the project to a video format that you can share. To accomplish this, you need to Click the Produce and share button on the top of the Clip Bin. The Production Wizard pops up. Camtasia brings up the settings you have chosen for the project. For best results, you should keep the same dimensions. Click the production option you want to use, in the drop-down menu. o The MP4 format gives a very good quality video with small file size. o MP4 up to 480 will only do standard video quality. o MP4 up to 720 will do limited HD video quality. o Custom production settings will allow you to select Flash/HTML 5 settings and do searchable text, quizzes, and a few other options. Click Next. o If you selected one of the MP4 types, you will be able to type the production name and select the destination folder for the video here. o If you selected Custom production settings, you will have additional options. Click the video format you want. MP4 – Flash / HTML 5 should play on most devices. This method provides an HTML 5 second option for devices that do not play Flash. MP3 files are recommended if you are only producing audio files. Make any needed changes to the Flash / HTML 5 Options: On the Controller tab: o Select the type of controller you want to use with the video.
On the Size tab: o Make sure the Embed size is not bigger than the Video size.

On the Video settings tab: o Select the Quality (the default settings are best). o Do not change the other settings on this tab. On the Audio settings tab: o We recommend setting the audio at 128 Kbps. On the Options tab: o To make a video with captions, PowerPoint notes, or other additional text searchable, select the check box for Searchable. o To show captions, select the check box for Captions. Click the Caption type from the drop-down list. o To include a quiz, select the check box for Quizzing. o To include a table of contents based on the markers, select the check box for Table of Contents. Click Next. Select the check box for Embed video into HTML. Camtasia will automatically create an HTML page and embed the video in it, to make sharing the video easy.
Click HTML options to type the title to display as the page title in the browser.
Click Next. Type the title of your video in the Production name text box and make sure that the file will be saved in the right location.
By default, the “Organize produced files into sub-folder” check box is selected to keep the produced files together.
o Click Finish. Camtasia will start rendering the project o Click Finish on the Production Results window. The Camtasia preview window will come up for you to review your finished product.

Camtasia also provides an option for uploading video to Screencast.com, which is a free video file hosting service. You can sign up for your 2 GB free service space to help host your video. You can also upload your video to YouTube. 37

To produce quality videos, we suggest that you select the same presets as you did for your project. You can also select a difference preset from the Custom production setting as long as you keep the same ratio Custom production settings Each of these settings gives you the optimum dimensions and format for quality output. For DVD: the DVD preset produces a AVI file that can be burned on DVD with any DVD burning software For YouTube, the YouTube preset produces a M4V file. You can upload the file to your YouTube account. For iPhone or IPod: the iPhone or iPod preset produces a M4V file. You need to transfer the M4V file to iTunes and then sync with your iPhone or iPod to upload your video. o Make sure that you have the most recent version of QuickTime player installed on your computer. You also need to include the QuickTime Authoring components when you install QuickTime. For the Web, Camtasia produces six files. One of them is an HTML file. You need to: 1. Create a folder on the Web server with the exact same name as the folder that contains these six files on your computer. 2. Upload all of the six files to the folder on the Web server using any FTP client. 3. Add a hyperlink to your Web page that points to the HTML file in this folder. The HTML page will launch the video. For Blackboard 1. Create a folder in Files with the exact same name as the folder that contains these six files on your computer. 2. Upload all of the files to the folder in Files by pointing to Upload and clicking “Upload Files”. 3. Add the HTML file in this folder to a learning module or content folder.
