Catalog - Official University document which includes detailed information about degree programs in all colleges, residency requirements, financial aid, and course descriptions. Visit catalog.uah.edu.

Academic Advisor - Each College provides professional academic advisors to help plan your academic career. You are required to meet with an Academic Advisor each semester.

Charger ID/LDAP - is the beginning of your UAH email address. Your Charger ID will be used for logging into your UAH email account, ANGEL, and various other resources.

Academic Standing - Your status as a student. Depending on your GPA, your standing could be good, warning, probation, or other classifications.

CAMPUS LIFE LIVING ON CAMPUS Our research proves that students who live on-campus have higher grade point averages, are more engaged in social activities, have greater interaction with faculty, and are more involved in research and co-op opportunities than students living off-campus. Get a head start and join the SUITE life with UAHuntsville Housing! Where am I going to live? Living on campus is required for first- and second-year students with exception to those students whose homes are within a 30-mile radius of UAHuntsville. Once you have submitted a housing application, UAHuntsville Housing will provide you with your specific housing assignment, including your new mailing address, your move-in date, and housing payment instructions. Call 256.824.6108 or visit housing.uah.edu for more information on making your housing reservation, requirements, and costs. When do I move in? Move-in day is generally the week before the start of classes. This year our move-in day is Friday, August 16th, 2013. Once you register for housing, you will receive a dedicated day for moving into your new home. Staff and move-in crews will help you unload your vehicles and assist you with moving your belongings into your room.

TIP: Pack as many items in boxes as possible, as this allows our volunteers to efficiently move you in. Once you have finished moving in, you and your family will be the featured guests at the Week of Welcome programs that afternoon!

Frank Franz Residence Hall (FFH) This residence hall is reserved for our Nursing and Biology living-learning communities, as well as our Honors Theme Community and is located just across the street from historic Morton Hall. FFH offers a suite-style living arrangement with two full baths in each suite along with four private bedrooms. All students in FFH are provided with cable, Internet, and local phone service within their individual bedrooms. FFH also houses a multi-purpose room, which is one of the largest and most used social spaces on campus Below, the three communities in Franz Hall are described in further detail: • Honors Community is designated for those who are a part of the Honors program. By living together you receive influential resources to achieve both social and academic success.

FIRST-YEAR RESIDENCE HALLS Central Campus Residence Hall (CCRH) This residence hall is dedicated to the first-year student experience and is adjacent to the University Center on the north end of the UAHuntsville campus. CCRH offers a suitestyle living arrangement with two full baths in each suite along with four private bedrooms. CCRH offers all students cable, Internet and local phone service within their individual suite. The facility also contains two specific communities: • Engineering Community: This theme community provides Engineering majors with a collaborative, positive environment in which to learn about themselves and the engineering profession. • Leadership Community: This theme community assists first year students in their transition to college life. University Housing works in conjunction with the Leadership Office in Student Life to create opportunities for students to get involved and develop their skills in leadership. CCRH is also home to our unique Six-Week Trial Period Housing Program. Local students whose permanent homes are within 30 miles of campus can get a hint of the residence hall experience before committing to an entire academic year. Of course we know you’ll want to stay once you’ve had a taste of the SUITE life! Visit uah.edu/trialhousing for more details.

• The Nursing Living-Learning Community begins its inaugural year in Fall 2013. The community will help bring together students in the Nursing Program to offer support for the program’s academic rigors. Programming, resources, and faculty/staff connections will all be focused to help those living in the Nursing community. • The Biology Living-Learning Community provides an opportunity for students in this field of study to come together not only in the classroom, but in the living environment. Programming and staff support will be tailored to students in this community of science. Living with your roommate Meeting new people is one of the most exciting parts of college life! New residents will be able to interact and get to know other students who are transitioning to UAH. University Housing has multiple ways to help you and your roommate adjust to college life. The most important factor in living together is to establish good communication amongst you and your suitemates from the beginning of your time together. Setting clear expectations of each other and encouraging open communication can help you start off on a positive note and maintain a solid, working suitemate relationship throughout the year! If at any time you need assistance, we have our Resident Assistant (RA) staff, as well as our live-in professional Resident Director (RD) to help you!

Roommate Assignments ARE COMPLETED IN MID-JULY. STUDENTS MAY LOG INTO THEIR BANNER ACCOUNT AND CLICK ON “MY HOUSING” TO SEE THEIR ROOMMATES AND ROOM ASSIGNMENT. Please note that assignments sometimes do have to be changed before move-in day, but you will be notified of all changes as soon as possible. If you meet new friends during Orientation and would like to become roommates,

Examples of where to use your Charger Card to make purchases or gain access include: dining venues, bookstores, fitness center, your residence hall, campus entertainment, athletic events, computer labs, copiers, vending and laundry areas, and more. There is a one-time fee of $10 for the official UAHuntsville Charger Card, and students may obtain one in the University Center room 147. A replacement card will cost $25, if one is lost or damaged.

Dining Dollars The Dining Dollar account is a declining balance account that can be used for food purchases in all of our on-campus dining venues. You can purchase dining dollars in increments of $50 each. Dining Dollars earn a discount for meals purchased in Charger Café or the Bevill Center’s Gardenview Café. Unused Dining Dollars carry over from fall to spring but expire at the end of spring semester.

Charger Card Accounts The Charger Card offers four types of declining balance accounts with no service fees: Meal plans, Charger Bucks, Dining Dollars, and Flex. Allow 24 hours for deposits to be processed, once receipt is presented to the Charger Card Office.

Flex Account Flex is a convenient declining balance account that is accepted by all participating vendors of the Charger Card. The Cashier’s Office accepts a minimum deposit of $10 for Flex. However, you may choose to utilize the Value Transfer Stations (VTS) that accept cash in increments of $1, $5, $10, or $20 for direct deposit to your card. CHARGER COMMUNITY RESPONSIBILITIES

ALCOHOL AWARENESS

When you arrive on campus you will be taking on new responsibilities and making many decisions for the first time. It’s important that you understand the community expectations and ethical standards of campus life.

In Alabama, it is illegal to possess or consume alcoholic beverages if you are under the age of 21. At UAHuntsville, underage drinking is always prohibited. Prior to attending your first class you are required to complete the online alcohol awareness program called AlcoholEDU. Information about this online module will be provided to you at orientation, along with instructions on how to access the module. A module is also available for parents and families. The University also provides education, programs, and policies that help to empower students to make responsible decisions about using alcohol.

STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT The Student Code of Conduct helps to ensure the rights and responsibilities of all students are being upheld and it communicates the expectations of every student’s membership within the university community. You can find the Student Code of Conduct at uah.edu/student-affairs/student-policies.
