Texts and Translations Afternoon on a Hill by Eric Barnum I will be the gladdest thing Under the sun! I will touch a hundred flowers And not pick one. I will look at cliffs and clouds With quiet eyes, Watch the wind bow down the grass, And the grass rise. And when lights begin to show Up from the town, I will mark which must be mine, And then start down! Ave Maria by Franz Schubert Gratia plena Maria, gratia plena Maria, gratia plena Ave, Ave dominus Dominus tecum Benedicta tu in mulieribus Et Benedictus Et Benedictus fructus Ventris Ventris tuae, Jesus Ave Maria Ave Maria Mater Dei Ora pro nobis peccatoribus Ora pro nobis, Ora, ora pro nobis peccatoribus Nunc et in hora mortis Et in hora mortis nostrae Et in hora mortis nostrae Et in hora mortis nostrae Ave Maria

Hail Mary Hail Mary full of grace Mary, full of grace Mary, full of grace Hail, Lord Hail, Lord with you Blessed are you among women And Blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus Hail Mary Hail Mary Mother of God Pray for us sinners, Pray for us, Pray for us sinners Now and at the hour of death And in the hour of our death And in the hour of our death And in the hour of our death Hail Mary

Silver by C. Armstrong Gibbs Slowly, silently, now the moon Walks the night in her silver shoon; This way, and that, she peers and sees Silver fruit upon silver trees; One by one the casements catch Her beams beneath the silvery thatch; Couched in his kennel, like a log, With paws of silver sleeps the dog; From their shadowy cote the white breasts peep Of doves in a silver-feathered sleep A harvest mouse goes scampering by, With silver claws, and silver eye; And moveless fish in the water gleam, By silver reeds in a silver stream.

Widmung by Robert Schumann Du meine Seele, du mein Herz, Du meine Wonn’, o du mein Schmerz, Du meine Welt, in der ich lebe, Mein Himmel du, darein ich schwebe, O du mein Grab, in das hinab Ich ewig meinen Kummer gab! Du bist die Ruh, du bist der Frieden, Du bist vom Himmel mir beschieden. Dass du mich liebst, macht mich mir wert, Dein Blick hat mich vor mir verklärt, Du hebst mich liebend über mich, Mein guter Geist, mein bess’res Ich! Du meine Seele, du mein Herz, Du meine Wonn’, o du mein Schmerz, Du meine Welt, in der ich lebe, Mein Himmel du, darein ich schwebe, Mein guter Geist, mein bess’res Ich!

You my soul, you my heart, You my rapture, O you my pain, You my world in which I live, My heaven you, to which I aspire, O you my grave, into which My grief forever I’ve consigned! You are repose, you are peace, You are bestowed on me from heaven. Your love for me gives me my worth, Your eyes transfigure me in mine, You raise me lovingly above myself, My guardian angel, my better self! You my soul, you my heart, You my rapture, O you my pain, You my world in which I live, My heaven you, to which I aspire, My guardian angel, my better self!

La Pastorella dell'Alpi by Gioachino Rossini I am the pretty shepherdess, Son bella pastorella, Who comes down every morning, Che scende ogni mattino Offering a little basket Ed offre un cestellino Of fresh fruit and flowers. Di fresche frutta e fior. Those who come at first light Chi viene al primo albore Will find delightful roses Avrà vezzose rose And apples damp with dew, E poma rugiadose, Come all to my garden. Venite al mio giardin. Those who lost their way Chi nel notturno orrore In the horror of the night, Smarrì la buona via, Will find their path once more Alla capanna mia At my little cabin. Ritroverà il cammin. Come, oh passing traveller, Venite, o passaggiero, The shepherdess is here, La pastorella è qua, Yet the flower of her thoughts Ma il fior del suo pensiero She will give to one and one alone! Ad uno sol darà! Sull'aria by Wolfgang A. Mozart Sull'aria... Che soave zeffiretto... Zeffiretto... Questa sera spirerà... Questa sera spirerà... Sotto i pini del boschetto Sotto i pini... Sotto i pini del boschetto. Sotto i pini del boschetto. Ei già il resto capirà. Certo, certo il capirà.

On the breeze What a gentle little zephir A little zephir This evening will sigh This evening will sigh Under the pines in the little grove. Under the pines… Under the pines in the little grove Under…the pines…in the little grove And the rest he’ll understand Certainly, certainly he’ll understand.

The Solitaire by Karen Carpenter There was a man A lonely man Who lost his love Through his indifference

A heart that cared That went unshared Until it died Within his silence And solitaire's the only game in town And every road that takes him Takes him down And by himself it's easy to pretend He'll never love again And keeping to himself he plays the game Without her love It always ends the same While life goes on around him everywhere He's playing solitaire A little hope Goes up in smoke Just how it goes Goes without saying There was a man A lonely man Who would command The hand he's playing And solitaire's the only game in town And every road that takes him Takes him down And by himself it's easy to pretend He'll never love again And keeping to himself he plays the game Without her love It always ends the same While life goes on around him everywhere He's playing solitaire And solitaire's the only game in town And every road that takes him Takes him down While life goes on around him everywhere He's playing solitaire

Feelings by Jerry Bock Feelings are tumbling over feelings Feelings i do not understand And i am more than slightly worried That they are getting out of hand Sometimes they happen in my stomach Sometimes they happen on my skin What is the name of this condition That i am in? If i'm more objective and observant If i can keep an even keel I'll be the first to pin a name to What i am the very first to feel I am the first to face this problem. I am the first to have this dream. How can i harvest his attention? How can i harvest his esteem? Should i something different with my hair? Is there some tid-bit that will please him? What should i wear? What is the source of this congestion That i must learn to rise above? Is there a name for this condition? Yes there's a name...... An it is hell!
