#IDKYN I hope you have already had an opportunity to laugh at this silly way of representing a very real problem. I don’t know your name (IDKYN). Perhaps I did know your name but have simply forgotten it, or perhaps I never knew your name to begin with... Whatever the case might be, it’s nothing personal, and I’d really love to solve this problem together. Meeting someone for the first time: “I don’t know if we’ve met before, so I figured I would introduce myself! My name is ____________ “ Re-meeting someone familiar: “You know, I think we’ve met before, but I’m having trouble remembering your name... My name is ____________” Kidding aside, this bizarre season of re-entry into community is ripe with the opportunity to connect with one another in new and meaningful ways. I absolutely love the potential of this time to remember how to reach out and develop new relationships, but also to learn how to deepen our existing connections in new and meaningful ways. To continue becoming a community that others would say, “see how they love one another.” This season is also ripe with the opportunity to encounter the transforming power of God in new ways. This guide is full of excuses to help us continue on this journey together. And remember, it’s ok to say, “IDKYN” along the way. Make sure to check out the other tips and also the list of IDKYN events on page 5. Grace and Peace, Jack McClintock

SERMON SERIES COMING UP ONE ANOTHER: SHARING NEW LIFE IN CHRIST JUNE 6-27 How does God make us new? Jesus said that a community of his followers would be known for their love for one another. But that’s hardly automatic. Where does it come from? Is it really possible to experience true life change - deliverance from sin and addiction, changes in our mental health and outlook, strengthening of our relationships? If so, how does God bring those things about? Join us for this series to learn more about God’s work to give us new life and to overcome the spiritual opposition that makes it a struggle.

CHRISTIANITY AND PATRIOTISM JULY 3-4 Christians traditionally worship together on Sunday. This important gathering is sort of like a weekly Easter, celebrating together the day when God raised Jesus from the dead. This year July 4 is also on a Sunday. What can we learn when these two “holidays” fall on the same day? In this week’s sermon we’ll learn more about what it means to be a citizen of God’s kingdom and a secular citizen of an earthly nation at the same time.

HOW TO PRAY JULY 11-AUGUST 22 The Lord’s Prayer is a treasure, hidden in plain sight. For many this prayer has become a rote, repeated mantra, but it was originally meant to be a map—a guide to a deep, personal, and life-changing way of prayer. Join this journey through the Lord’s Prayer, and the New Testament texts that echo it, to discover the rich treasure of prayer in and through our Savior, Jesus Christ. In the Lord’s Prayer we find instructions for: • praying boldly as the children of God, • praying for and in God’s will for the world, • praying simply, knowing everything in life matters to God • and praying deeply, for the profound spiritual struggles we all face. 3

#IDKYN, otherwise known as I Don’t Know Your Name, is a way we’re getting back into community with one another. This funny acronym is a fun way to help recognize this strange season of talking and meeting other people again, maybe even people you’ve never met before. It represents a season of amnesty, where it’s okay to ask for someone’s name. How to IDKYN Meeting someone for the first time: “I don’t know if we’ve met before, so I figured I would introduce myself! My name is _____“ Re-meeting someone familiar: “You know, I think we’ve met before, but I’m having trouble remembering your name... My name is _____” Going Deeper: • “What’s your UALC story? How did you get connected to the church?” • “Have you had anything interesting happen in your life recently?” • “What have you been most passionate about lately?” • “Do you have any prayer requests that I could join in with you?” (Let’s commit to pray for one another!)

MY UALC STORY

I was born and raised Episcopalian so my wife and I joined an Episcopal church near us after moving to Hilliard with a baby on the way. The liturgy always brought back childhood memories of attending church with my parents. However, over the course of a few years we gradually became less connected as a result of the direction the church chose to take. Friends of ours who were members at UALC Mill Run invited our family to a service in 2001 and we quickly realized we had a new church. Our daughter and theirs went through Sunday school together and ultimately First Communion. We became active with the Mill Run campus. I served as lector and usher for several years (I lectored the last service before the shutdown). Our daughter ran slides and we all served a stint as greeters. My wife Dana became a member many years ago but I was hesitant—those Episcopalian roots ran deep. After the shutdown we began attending the Lytham campus Traditional Service. When the new member workshop was announced I realized it was time, after 20 years, to take the step. I honestly don’t know if it was the Holy Spirit or just common sense kicking in but I am so happy to finally be a member of the UALC family and truly have a church home. I know there are good things in store for us all! –Mark Peacock LR: Lytham Road MR: Mill Run

INTERNATIONAL FRIENDSHIPS (IFI) A story from our ministry partner

My name is Zifei and I am a logistics management student from China. I learned about IFI from the welcome party that I attended in 2019. It was my first IFI activity. After that, I heard about an apple pie making activity with IFI. The woman who taught us was really helpful and all the friends who attended the apple pie making were nice. Because of the good experiences I had with IFI, when I was invited to attend an IFI Bible discussion, I went. I did not know many things about God before, but I was interested in different religions. IFI members were helpful when I had questions about God during the Bible study. Just before the pandemic last spring, I attended IFI’s spring break trip to New Hampshire with my friend Florence, who works for IFI. One morning during breakfast, our host family mentioned their walk with the Lord. After that, Florence and I talked about God and the overall Bible picture. She answered my questions and also shared her testimony. I came to tears about the fact that the God of the universe seeks to connect with me. Florence asked me if I wanted to have a relationship with God and follow Jesus. I said yes. Since that time, Florence has helped me understand more about following Jesus. Now, I read the Bible daily and attend a group with Florence and other believers! To find out more about the ministry and to get involved, visit ualc.org/ifi. 9
