Economic Impact of University of Arkansas Students In 2009, the Center for Business and Economic Research at the University of Arkansas’s Sam Walton College of Business conducted a study of the economic impact of the university community on the local area economy. Part of the study focused on the spending habits of university students. The study concluded that students contributed an estimated $173,663,797 to the local economy in 2009. Information cited is from “The Economic Impact of the University of Arkansas” study prepared by the Center for Business and Economic Research at the Sam M. Alloy Media and Marketing’s College Newspaper Audience Study, conducted in partnership with MORI Research, indicates that college newspapers continue to reign as a top media choice among today’s college students.
