LOOKING FORWARD WITH UBC CPD From Executive Director, Dr. Brenna Lynn
This is an exciting time for the UBC Division of Continuing Professional Development (UBC CPD). We have updated the look and usability of our calendar to make it even easier for you to find the CPD programs and events that best suit your needs and busy schedule.
We continue to innovate and promote new methods and strategies for enhancing the continuing education of physicians by ensuring that the programs offered are based on recent, relevant, needs assessment data. In the upcoming year, we will be offering new educational programs on cancer care, genomics, emergency pediatric simulation, and disability management. In addition to our popular small group workshops and conferences, we are offering programs and technology enabled learning via online and video-conferencing with synchronous and asynchronous opportunities.
We provide video rounds, webinars, virtual journal clubs and website blogs that are designed to help keep you up to date with emerging medical knowledge and techniques. Complementing traditional forms of CPD, we now offer mentorship and coaching opportunities along with an upcoming self-directed learning program for internists. Many more new and exciting initiatives are profiled in this calendar edition. UBC CPD is working on creating a new, innovative, and more user-friendly website that will appear later in the year. You will be able to learn about CME/CPD activities, innovation in education and opportunities to translate research into practice. We are always happy to hear from you about our programs, directions and how we can further support physician learning. We are eager to be part of the shifting spectrum of CPD and hope you enjoy the calendar. We look forward to engaging with you in what promises to be a productive upcoming year. THIS CHANGED MY PRACTICE (TCMP)
UBC CPD is a recipient of the 2012 Royal College Accredited CPD Provider Innovation Award for This Changed My Practice!
Oct 19, 2012 to May 31, 2013: Six interactive Friday afternoon sessions at VGH or via your local videoconference room. Each session has eight focused short topics with clear speaker objectives and an assured minimum 1/3 time of participant/speaker interaction. The sessions address specific family practice learning needs with topics chosen by the physician attendees. Attention is paid to full curriculum completion over a two to three year cycle by the planning committee. Sign up for individual sessions or the complete series here:
TCMP is a blog for physicians to share clinical “pearls” with new articles published every two weeks. Instead of providing summaries of trials as they come out, TCMP contributing physicians write about practice tips that truly impact their practice, clinical trials that change treatments, and new data that questions something done before. The website has a community feel, where you can discuss the topic with your colleagues and the author. You can earn 0.25 Mainpro M1 or MOC Section 2 credits per article.
