Sermon Title: I Am Second
Sermon Text: 2 Kings 7:1-20
Small Group Text: 2 Kings 7:1-20
Introduction
Many of us have been moved to act when a newsworthy crisis hits somewhere remote from our city: A hurricane in New Orleans, an earthquake in Haiti, a flood in a neighboring county. These things often cause us to rise up and help in some way. Though we’re not facing a natural disaster, how might you describe Miami as a “city in crisis” today? Based on your description of our city, what are our top 3-5 needs? What if we have the resources to help our city in crisis but never shared them? Today, we’ll look at an Old Testament story that will help us answer the question “what are the benefits that come with sharing our blessings/resources?”
Discussion
Application
Read 2 Kings 7:1-20 1. Describe the desperate situation of the four lepers in verses 3-4? 2. What did they decide to do because of their situation? 3. What resources did they find when they arrived at the enemy camp? 4. What did they first do with the resources they found? 5. What realization did they come to about hoarding their resources? What did they do, based on that realization? 6. What was the result of the lepers sharing the good news? 1. Think of blessings/resources you’ve been given that could help meet the needs of our city? Name a few. 2. How can you meet the needs of our city with the resources you’ve been given? 3. Who would benefit if you shared the good-news of these resources? 4. What would have happened to the city of Samaria had the lepers not shared their blessings/resources? What will happen to our city if we do not share our blessings/resources? 5. What “good-news,” possessions, or other blessings will you share with someone during this coming week?
