Students from the film, theatre and creative writing departments at UCA joined forces to complete a treasure hunt on Sept. 9, along with a sweetThetreat.event was held in the Snow Fine Arts Center where students lined up for their choice of ice cream and toppings backstage, and then socialized with other students on the stage.

The party was thrown in conjunction with a third-party company contracted by SAB, Degy Entertainment, which offers a service called Paint University that sets up and cleans up paint parties on college campuses.

From 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 15 the National PanHellenic Council Greek Life will host a stepping event where members will perform a unity step after dark at the Student Center Amphitheater.

“I think it’s cool that we perform every few weeks rather than plays, which take longer to do,” Bale said.

Both Carroll and Fajardo have a long history of involvement in professional improv companies in Arkansas.

Cast members are required to attend all meetings, and rehearsals and be in each performance.“Ijustheard about [Bear Bait Improv] when I got on campus and started going to my theater classes,” Bale said. “Auditions made me a little nervous but after they began it was so much fun. I’ve learned to not be afraid and to put yourself out there. ”

“I’ve always wanted the department to expand into the realms of dance, musical theater and alternative dance styles, so when my buddy Rudy and I decided to come up with Bear Bait Improv, we truly gave it our all in order to make it happen,” Carroll said. “[It’s] not only for us, but for other students in the department and on campus as well who’ve particularly had interests that align with the type of stuff we do over at Bear Bait.”

Carroll encourages students to join Bear Bait Improv and learn what it takes to be successful at improv and other skills.“Bear Bait is always looking for new faces seeking to get involved with us,” Carroll said. “We are equally a group dedicated to education and growth as a performance troupe. As long as you bring your passion and enthusiasm, we’re guaranteed to have fun.”

Those who feel emboldened by this old-fashioned belief now have the per fect platforms to incite danger against women and minorities.

What is it about the internet that emboldens a mediocre man to believe he is important enough to sit behind a microphone and spew sexist, racist and homophobic rhetoric to an audi ence of little boys?

These men hide behind the First Amendment, bouncing their patriar chal beliefs around the echo cham bers they have created. They play the devil’s advocate to anyone who will listen, all while lining their pockets with the money of anyone who is will ing to Theypay.may believe they are not harming anyone with this lunge for fame and money, but impressionable children with access to social media see this commentary and adopt the views as their own.

A large portion of self-care is skin care. While quarantining, people purchased a host of skin care products.

With consumers investing in skin care products, I have noticed a large spike in celebrity skin care brands.

Little boys will mimic this be havior, spreading his harmful ideas despite lacking a full understanding of what they mean. In August, a TikTok went viral of a sixth-grade teacher warning parents to monitor what their children were watching on social media. She said the 11-year-old boys in her class were calling girls “fat” because of a video they saw of Andrew Tate. His influence on developing minds has already started, but even worse is the authority he has over men and boys who have the means to harm women. Andrew Tate reeks of the kind of insecurity that could only be sustained by men who have never re ceived positive attention from women. They call themselves “alpha males,” when in reality the only way they can make money is by exploit ing women for their gain. This issue cannot be handled by individuals. It is up to social media platforms to handle this issue without complete censhor ship. These misogynists need to be monitored by platforms.

Celebrities want you to spend your hard-earned dollars on their overpriced skin care systems while they get expensive treatments. Celebrities also have access to professional cameras, lighting, creative directors and editors. They have a team of specialists working to sell a dream. These brands are harmful and create an unrealistic beauty standard. The celebrity skin care industry is promoting an illusion of something that simply doesn’tConsumersexist. are looking at celebrities like Lori Harvey and Kylie Jenner and comparing themselves. In reality, celebrities do not look like thatIeither.wish people would stop supporting these brands. If celebrities did not have support from the general public, they wouldn’t be able to swindle people again and again.

I don’t know what these meatheads think is going to happen, but I promise the world will not end if more people get into weightlifting.

The Andrew Tates of the world, small-minded men who take advan tage of boys who have yet to reach frontal lobe development, have chosen the internet as their weapon of choice in spreading outrageous and hatefulThisspeech.issueis not new to social me dia. Ushered by the rise of Facebook in the early 2000s, this “alpha male” persona arose.

As a society, we have had a rough two years. The COVID-19 pandemic took a toll on everyone’s mental health.

One of the ways that most people kept their calm was by investing in a self-care routine.

This persona typically includes an inexplicable tendency of participating in the sexualization and discrimina tion of women.

The gym is filled with people who are similar to these gatekeepers in race, gender and size. So in their heads, they feel like it’s not necessary for others to join.

People are selfish in general, and I know that the majority of us recognize this. We should want better. We should want different people in the gym, even if it means we have to wait longer for machines to open up. We don’t know how much of an impact going to the gym has on somebody.

I’ve noticed that the people who feel threatened by this increase in weightlifting are the people who already have inspiration from weight lifters that look just like them.

“Pinocchio” (2022) is confused on all cinematic fronts. If Zemeckis were to say he didn’t even bother to watch the film’s predecessor before directing, it wouldn’t be hard to believe.

Similar to films such as “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World” and “Donnie Darko,” “Three Thousand Years of Longing” may not be for everyone, but it will definitely find a niche audience of its own.

This modern variation shaves off as many scenes, dialogue, plot points and characters as it possibly can, leaving the nearly 2 hour run time feeling vacant and uncoordinated. You’ll be better off watching the film at two times the original playback speed if skipping the movie altogether isn’t an option for you.

“Three Thousand Years of Longing” was released in theaters Aug. 26 and will be available on Amazon Prime Video later this year.

Building off of its gorgeous looks, the world-building within the Djinn’s stories is heavy with creative ideas and mythology but stumbles at points.

1. The Village at Pickles Gap Located on the way out of town at 315 Hwy 65 North, this hidden gem is easily missed but absolutely shouldn’t be. The village is under new ownership and gives off a country charm. It is home to Doc’s Coffee + Creamery, a coffee and treat shop that is perfectly decorated in an eclectic style. The interior is picture worthy. They also serve their famous fudge in an array of tempting flavors. This is the perfect location for a first date or for study sessions. Also located at The Village at Pickles Gap is a homemade soap shop and spa called The Rustic Jewel. The entire area is up and coming so keep an eye out for even more in the future!

3. Beaver Fork Lake Beaver Fork Lake is a classic spot to visit in Conway, especially at sunrise or sunset. Some of my fondest memories of freshmen year were made here. You’ll find people hammocking, fishing, boating and sometimes even swimming, though I wouldn’t necessarily recommend that. What I would recommend is gathering some friends for a picnic out by the lake. Being outside is a great way to de-stress during the semester and this is the best place to do it. You can’t live in Conway and never visit this underrated but iconic location. The lake is located at 20 Kinley Dr.

2. Hippie Hill Locals know all about hippie hill. It’s a hill located at 404 US-65 in Conway where That 70s Store is located. It is a well-known photo spot as it has a van painted similarly to the “Scooby-Doo” Mystery Machine out front. Inside the store, there is a trippy black light room full of mostly obscene posters. I’ve witnessed several people posting Snapchat videos of the room because it is not something you see every day. The store offers all the tie-dye clothing any hippie could ever wish for. If this is your vibe, or even if it’s not, hippie hill is a neat place to experience at least once.

Fan favorite characters like Honest John the Fox (voiced by Keegan-Michael Key) and Gideon the Cat make an incredibly brief appearance and are never seen again. It’s unfortunate that the duo isn’t recurring in this version, mostly because of Key’s wonderfully playful and humorous voice-acting for Meanwhile,John.actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt gets the privilege of voicing Jiminy Cricket, yet fails to make it original. 4. Cross Creek Sandwich Shop A co-worker introduced me to Cross Creek Sandwich Shop earlier this year and I’ve never been more grateful. Located downtown, this sandwich shop is a convenient stop for a meal you’ll feel good about eating. They serve sandwiches, soups, salads and wraps, along with their homemade desserts. It’s located inside of Jennifer’s Antiques so you could make a date out of eating and shopping for antiques afterward.

Disney sacrifices a lot of what makes “Pinocchio” iconic in this live-action remake of the animated original released in 1940. Though there is a certain admirable quality regarding the classic animation style of Disney’s original “Pinocchio,” the shift away from this is not what makes its live-action counterpart lifeless.

Tom Hanks as Geppetto might be the only perk of this film, though his involvement feels like an owed favor to director Robert Zemeckis. However, we see Hanks sparingly throughout the film as Pinocchio gets caught up in the familiar plot line of skipping school, joining a puppet show, traveling to an island that manufactures mules out of children and being swallowed by a whale. The central focus behind the 1940 film was Jiminy Cricket’s drive to right Pinocchio’s wrongs as Pinocchio navigated his first day of life. In this classic version of the story, Pinocchio has a tendency to be easily manipulated and fall victim to temptation. It’s what makes the film interesting and gives Jiminy his cause for serving as Pinocchio’s “conscience.”
